I dont really like to tier Phoenix much because it’s obvious she was designed to be the best character in the game. She’s basically a playable boss character and it was obvious she was going to play that way from the beginning. You can’t balance a character with 2 lives and 400k health each life. If you did they would probably suck. A character with those types of attributes needs to be extra cheap with a side of cheese.
The issue with Phoenix will always be that she’s random by design. You could randomly die to a snap in, you could randomly die to not getting something you wanted and then dying to ABCS BBCS even when you’re Dark Phoenix, random beam super can get you etc. Phoenix pretty much loses to random because of her design so even though she is by far the best character in the game it comes with its costs also.
Well those are the same guys saying Wolverine is number one in the game. The only way Wolverine will be number in the game is if everyone stopped playing the game and waited for AE.
if DPX wasn’t #1, why are 99% of the counters against her consist of doing a random super or punish super? Every other character in the game you can do a footsie mind game layer with but not that bitch.
lol i remember noel brown saying wolverine was #1 because “he can do 650k with 1 hyper” and i was like wtf. if thats the case taskmaster should be his own tier lol.
I can’t tell you how many times justin’s talked about the meta game and just been way out in left field. Remember when he called Adon “the worst character in SSF4”.
It’s almost the equivalent of post game interviews with athletes… some just aren’t that strategical and make better players than coaches.
Some people are better gameplanners, innovators, and theory fighters.
Some people are combo gods, but suck at actually fighting.
Just because you are good at one thing, does qualify you as being good at another.
Classifying her as different characters is borderline retarded. You’re selecting one character. Unless you are Justin Wong trying to throw matches at Powerup, you select Jean Grey with the intention on turning her Into Dark Phoenix. It dictates your entire playstyle.
No. no we do not. Dark Phoenix does not exist without phoenix. that’s stupid.
Jesus M Christ. THIS. THIS A THOUSAND TIMES.
the bolded part applies to lots of things even beyond games. like in Boxing. Tyson was a monster in his prime but would he make a good trainer? nope. Someone like Bernard Hopkins would though.
and yeah. unless you’re an idiot who doesnt know what thehell he’s doing you ARE playing Jean to go DPh mode.
ok, because i was just seeing if we were on the same page because this guy sidearm keeps classifying phoenix/dark phoenix are different characters even though 100% of phoenix players are intent on making sure she’ll transform.
Its not that they’re two separate characters, its just the fact that Normal phoenix is OK but when she transforms she becomes the best character in the game, Its not like Morrigan or dante or wolvie or zero who change on command, then TURN BACK TO NORMAL.
She’s like a 4th character. Shit I cant tell you how many times it came down to my last char v standard phoenix, She had the life lead, she ran the whole game, I get her in one combo, she dies, comes back with full bar, TIME UP…
If you gave regular Jean Grey 800k health and took away Dark Phoenix, she’d still be a top 10 character in this game. Probably even top 5. Normal Jean is very, very good.
But it’s not like any PHX player is intending on NOT turning into D.PHX… so stop trying to separate the two.
Renegade… Im not trying to separate the two, I just said She’s a 4th character. and no shit, If you didnt have to save your meter and she didnt die in a meterless combo She WOULD be top 5. But is Dark phoenix didnt exist, people would just use trish.
and kissblade: when you have less than 20%… Getting Phoenix to lower than that is difficult
EDIT: now that I think about it, if she had 800k w/o DP she’d just be flat out broken because she’d have healing field
