Winner. Regular Phoenix has a lot of stuff that nobody uses because there’s a right way to play her… Double firebird combos that nobody uses because they’re saving meter. Good stuff with x-factor that nobody uses because it’s rarely right to activate before she goes Dark. Dumb crossup setups that nobody does until late in the game because they can’t risk taking a hit.
Regular Phoenix has a lot of tools and a lot of matchup advantages. A conversation that’s been taking place here and elsewhere is about Wolverine and where exactly he ranks. Most people go about this all wrong and list his tools and then conclude he can’t be that good because other characters have better tools. But the reason Wolverine is so good in this game is simple. Who exactly does Wolverine lose to? Some matches are closer than others, some characters make him approach differently and make him stop divekicking and start doing ghetto MvC1 birdcage setups, but they still are on the wrong side of even.
But Phoenix has a tangible advantage over Wolverine even with crappy health. Throw fireballs, set traps underneath you so he can’t try to get lucky with a drill claw from underneath you, make sure you clear out enough space on the ground to land and jump again and don’t stand on the ground so you can’t get crossed up by berserker slash. Once he stops moving and starts blocking you get to teleport, but until then just stay safe with fireballs. That’s more or less it. She might be Zero’s worst match also. She’s right up there as one of Wesker’s worst matchups also once she makes it past 3 seconds in and gets above him for the first time.
I began starting Phoenix as a training exercise and then just kept doing it because it was working way better than it should. At some point I’m going to break it out in tournament vs. the right team, get a whole lot of yellow card jokes, but probably win the match just on matchup experience. Regular Phoenix has some intriguing matchups vs. top tier characters.
i classify jean and dph as 2 different characters that happen to use the same slot. should i? maybe not, but its borderline retarded to think that you can play against jean the same as you can play against DPH.also, you cant switch between the 2 on a whim… you either have jean or you have DPH. not both.
its like saying the endgame in an rts is the same as the beginning. to me, its inconsequential that one character has to be used to get the other, simply put, if jean is on a team i DONT want her transforming into DPH. the fact that i can keep her from doing just that is one of the other reasons i classify them as different characters. if the transformation were guaranteed no matter what, id consider the same character since there would be no way to stop DPH from getting out.
but meh, different people are different and no one is always to completely agree with everyone all the time.
and yeah i agree that JEAN, is a very good character in her own right, super jump tracking bubble is just plain hard to deal with, whereas healing field and triangle jump just adds insult to injury… good thing she only has 420 k hp.
Hey I’m all for Wolverine being a good character. He gets too much for too little so obviously he’s good. I’m just not feeling the number one shit when it’s obvious that when the other characters that require some real work get tapped out something will most likely happen to him. I dont think all of the characters are fleshed out enough at a high level play to really say that Wolverine is just slam bam under Phoenix. At this current state in the game…yeah he probably is slam bam under Phoenix but this is like 3rd month into the game. This is also considering for a character that’s supposed to be number one he sure isn’t getting whored enough.
Let me get this straight. You’re less than 20% on your last character against a PHOENIX with life lead and five bars yet you feel that you deserve to win that match?
there is no No 1 it all about how smart you play and think if you can combo with your characters and your team synergy is great you are more than half way there. example Always choose a character that enhance your main/point if you play deadpool is makes sense for you second to be Task Arthur, Sent, Storm Iron man, Doom or anyother multiple projector characters.
the only thing is why would you leave for instance wesker last against D.phoenix, don’t get me wrong wesker is a great anchor but not against D.phoenix people need to play the match up, match by match and stop complaining.
Ok i dont need to explain myself to some random here but here goes:
The last time i lost to a Phoenix team,
match starts, I call assist, they guess right, assist dead (VERY common) Match continues, i call assist, He team supers to try and finish me off, My point drops out with 20% but my assist dies, I XF fight back to make it 1v1, in the process of killing off his other 2 I gave him 5 meter.
Now are you gonna add anything to this thread or continue to troll?
it is possible to lose and still limp through a bunch of extra turns before checkmate, either because you don’t know you’ve lost yet or you are rage-staying (starcraft term). same thing can happen in marvel.
I’m not trolling. Dark Phoenix with XFC level 3 is dominating and I’ve been claiming throughout this thread that Phoenix is a top tiered character because of it. However, no matter how you spin it though in this account, you sound like you got outplayed. Call them lucky guesses or what not but the root of the situation is you lost two assists, blew your XFC to try to come back. Meanwhile your opponent has built at least five meters (you mentioned he used a team super which had to have consumed at least one if not two meters since they likely built at least one by the time they killed your assist). Again, I’m not meaning to offend but your examples are not something exclusive to Phoenix’s strength.
Hi man.
Can you say who are the 15 characters that will give the best overall results for the average player and, if possible, explain why ?
I was thinking of Wolv / Sent / Wesker / Task / Hulk / Haggar / Arthur / Ryu / Akuma, then Dormammu, Deadpool, Tron, Super Skrull, Amateratsu, and last but you won’t win with him : Captain America. Any thought ?
Sounds like you got outplayed since the beginning of the match. You shouldn’t be leaving your assists open enough for them to kill them off so easily. Secondly, if you xfactor and can connect enough to kill off 2 characters, why not use some of that meter to snap in Phoenix and chip/kill her before they can build 5 meters? In your situation, they already burned meter killing your assists. Also, what is preventing you from killing their assists just as easily (and common as you put it) as they did to yours?
Edit: In your situation, you have 1 character with x-factor against 3 characters with x-factor. Let’s even say you manage to kill the opponent’s first 2 characters. So you don’t have that much meter, possibly no x-factor, most likely less than full health while your opponent has a 100% last character with x-factor and more meter. Yet you complain about losing?
