MvC3 Actual Balance/Potential Tiers Discussion

The Stalking Flares Chips kills are nice but its his Dark Spells maxed out that really shine with X-factor, in my opinion.

They End things.

anybody wanna explain to me why they think dante is so good? when i think somebody like lets say zero is much better yet no body has him on their list

Well, the kid has combos for days, but I think it’s mostly because 98 percent of the pop still do not know how to deal with his teleport.

Don’t forget Arthur’s. Only Level 3 that hits full screen while hitting multiple people.

In fact how many Level 3’s can hit multiple people? Are Arthur and Zero the only ones?

great list, though Morrigan feels more like tits tier to me

top 5 imo

Sentinel
Dog
Dante
Taskmaster
Trish

the game is too hard to tier right now so i’m tiering the top 5 characters based on how versatile they are.

It is definitely far too early for this shit. We just don’t know who’s boss. But so far these are the ones who look potentially top tier:

She-hulk
Spencer
Wesker
Wolverine
Ametarasu

Tron isn’t top tier because she is fucking terrible without assists and she has to rely on j.H box jumps to start combos, which is not going to be viable once people get used to her. Plus her hypers are complete ass and she can do shit all chip damage. Akuma might possibly make the list but there are a few things that hold him back: terrible range on his combo starters, terrible teleport, weak demon flip (max range flip only covers around half the stage). These might be overcome though. Dormammu is very interesting and with the right assist he can zone very effectively. Chris might have some potential. We’ll see…

Characters who are strong on point and have a great assist?

Doctor Doom
Iron Man
Sentinel
Taskmaster
Amaterasu
Crimson Viper
Dante
Wesker
Akuma

Magneto’s assists are nice, but, I wouldn’t consider them great. Tron is ass on point.

Three of these characters make up my team. Now I feel dirty.

I’ve played against a few Dantes and I really have no fucking idea what to do about his half screen sword play. Especially when backed up with a derpy assist like Tron fire assist. Press a button when you’re not close enough to physically hit him and he has a sword out and you get taken for a half life ride a lot of the time. I would assume simply jumping and blocking or air throwing would be the best bet to keep him from trying to random teleport on top of you but even then the sword normals for what they are capable of on hit is just ridiculous. I’d like help on what to do against him cuz personally I dont have a fucking clue what disadvantages he has as long as he’s jumping and air dashing from max sword range.

I would definitely for now rate him within the top 5 or 10 characters in the game and surprised more people aren’t using him. I was intimidated at first into using him because of how complicated I figured he would be to use but I see that even with a minimal moveset the dude is just dangerous. I can’t imagine what he’s going to be like when everything is figured out.

Eh…I guess I’ll throw in my own early tier list based on what’s seen a month in. Everyone is lazy about this game right now and just kinda running whatever works for the least effort minus a few people. There’s about 40 characters so I guess I’ll split it up into an A/B+/B/C tier and split that up between either being a Marvel or Capcom character rather than just making a big deal about who is the best of the best for sure a month in.

I dont think enough is known about the game to know that there’s any characters that are just like just fucking giants of the game impossible to counter. Wong and Kelly complained up and down early about Sent being OP as hell when it was really only in XF Level 3 that he is overpowered and generally fightable or outright countered hard by other characters. Other than that I think there’s a lot of strong characters and none seem so strong yet IMO that they are worth listing in some uber top tier or whatever. Especially when the strength of the characters can also be reliant on assists.

**Mahvel characters early tier list (with some paragraphs regarding the A tiers)

A tier: Sentinel, Taskmaster, She Hulk, Phoenix, Magneto

B+ tier: Wolverine, Dormammu, Storm, Doom

B tier: Hulk, X23, Captain America, Super Skrull

C tier: Deadpool, Iron Man, MODOK, Spider Man, Shuma Gorath, Thor
**

Tried to base this more on what is doing well in tourneys than anything. It’s obvious Sentinel is just good in a lot of situations with a great all purpose assist (although it leaves him vulnerable for a long time). Sentinel has gdlk air normals that dont have vulnerable hit boxes which in a screen controlling game like Mahvel is big to have. Especially when he can bop you with one of them and go into huge combos. His hit box is huge and he doesn’t really have much in the way of technologies or mix ups but his general ability to move around at a good speed, do crazy damage off nothing and being basically the best character in the game so far in tourneys when in X Factor (next to D.Phoenix any way) makes him a force.

** Tasky** can blow people up really quick with his solid mix of offensive and defensive options and relatively lengthy combos that do big damage with any meter and build him meter even pretty quick. Great range on his sword normals as well. If he has any glaring weaknesses I haven’t really seen them.

She Hulk is just stupid in the right hands. She’s designed to eat up traditional air based mahvel movement for breakfast while being difficult to anti air herself when she gets to the air. Her normal game is unsafe on block minus and a bit tricky to apply when people stop push blocking her stuff…yet at the same time she only needs that super long ranged anti air capable c.L to put you through a bitch of a ride. I’m also still scratching my head as to why she has 1.15 mil health but whatever.

Phoenix…regular Phoenix is a strong character that requires a lot of work and meter management but the idea is to get her to 5 bars where you basically just pretty much auto win if u can get her Level 3 XF also. You really have to drop the ball to lose with her if that’s all set up and when it is all set up at least on video its rare that you see her still lose. The hardest part about Phoenix is really just knowing how to utilize her non dark version effectively and know how to get out of snapback situations and not just ride her cheap boss type Dark mode.

Magneto…definitely one of the best of the possible A tier, but I’m not necessarily enthralled about him either. He’s doing well on video a lot because of his general speed and his ability to build meter fast but I dont really feel there’s much to him compared to his Marvel 2 version. He gets a better zoning game arguably with super fast disruptah but it doesn’t really have great projectile durability either. When u see him in tournaments he pretty much just goes in on point at Ready Fight and hopes he derps you out with a high low into big damage. People that aren’t good at seeing his high/low will just get screwed up all day for a while and that’s definitely why he’s high tier but the fact that he doesn’t have any safe crouch normal other than c.L and doesn’t really have much to his mix up other than fast high/low it makes me question how long he will be a big force in tourneys. If anything he’s a strong meter build but risky due to his low health also.

**Capcom early tier list: (with some paragraphs regarding the A tiers)

A tier: Wesker, Dante, Zero, Ama/Doggy

B+ tier: Akuma, Spencer, Trish, Tron

B tier: Morrigan, C.Viper, Chun Li, Ryu, Viewtiful Joe, Hsien Ko, Felicia, Arthur, Haggar

C tier: Jill, Chris, Ryu, **

Like before based on what I’ve seen on video for the most part. Wesker…Wesker is just good. Being a Wesker main I know how good he is especially when backed with an assist that keeps his teleports safe. Due to Wesker’s inability to air dash and his lack of frame advantage and push block on his normals he can’t really get in safely without an assist or pure trickery but that’s mainly because once he does he’s just going to blow you the hell up. Very high damage output once u learn his longer wall carry combos which have a bit of difficulty to them but not super hard. Despite not being able to just rush in and do shit randomly outside of dash in command grab his normals have pretty serious mode priority and now that people know how to use his gun shot as pretty much a full screen anti air to set up juggles his space control is pretty unmatched. Especially when he can use that gun to cause chip damage and port around the screen to snipe out other high tiers like Sent. Not very reliant on meter to do heavy damage and does heavy damage once he gets to level 3. He of course has absurdly good health for what he is capable of.

**Dante **is obvious for high tier so far also. Not many people in tourneys seem to really be running him yet but the people that do just seem to be a force with him. You’ll see PR Rog go through matches with Dante where he just doesn’t get touched and his Dante is pretty much sword normals covered with assist and a few of his 45 specials. LOL. I dont see what like half the cast can do to get around his sword play from mid range other than shoop him with lasers and shots which he has a teleport to get around also. He doesn’t have awesome health but he better not for how great his normal and special game is and his ability to take away half your life with day one combos let alone any of his real shit that will come about in the future. With everyone talking about the potential in his bold cancels to keep him safer on block and extend combos on top of how everyone is learning to utilize his devil trigger as basically a poor man’s xfactor…the sky is really just the limit for Dante ATM.

Zero: Another character with low health but just flat out deadly in the right hands. When the game first came out and people didn’t know how to utilize his charged buster he got zoned out easily, had trouble dealing with push block and did minimal damage in his BnB’s. Learning the powers of that charge buster have pretty much have him been able to shoot back at people, work his way in against push block (along with the other tools he already has for that) aaanndd pretty much bring his Bnb’s to like 700 plus k with meter that he’ll probably build himself. He also has one of the most versatile level 3’s in the game that u pretty much can’t push a button at once its active and covers most of the screen space. Pretty much a monster pretty much as soon as Fight comes up on the screen like he’s always in X Factor. High priority sword normals also that are generally safe on block. Of course with a paltry 800k health his only big issue so far is get hit and go home.

Ama/Doggy reminds me of Zero except a bit more on the defensive side. Has a lot of ways to control screen space and pretty much the smallest hit box in the game making her tough to hit which is good in a game like this. One of the supposed Sentinel killers which is good because a lot of people in tourneys still running the “My 2 favs plus Sent” teams. Seems pretty much safe on block on everything and very versatile on offense for a character that can control space extremely well also. Probably the only issue with her being that’s it’s probably difficult to manage all of her stances at once and one bad decision can cost big. When played right thorugh she can decide to eat through opponents or shut them out from a distance pretty much whenever.

The rest of the tiers I put together based on what I’ve seen and other random, not totally perfect reasons that could obviously change in the future.

When it comes to the sword, it has impressive range, but I’m a Dante player and those normals seem fairly unsafe on whiff. I have no frame data to back that up–it’s just a feeling–but I’ve been punished on whiff plenty. Gotta be patient.

Dante does have a lot of shit that goes full-screen, and he can combo off half of them, but their recovery is abysmal. Once you start to see it coming, you’ll be punishing him all day long.

I’ll say this: if Dante raw teleports you can air throw or launcher on reaction. He needs to back it up with an assist.

He can do missiles to cover himself, although I’m sure there’s some punishment to that.

Yeah Dantes is pretty overpowered with his normals

If you whiff a normal, you can always cancel it into a special. Reverb Shock has only 8 frames of start up, which is the same as his standing light attack. If you whiff that, too, then you can cancel it into Fireworks, which is safe on block, goes full screen, and does crazy chip damage.

Spencer is getting alot of hype right now but truth be told you just need to block and not let him stand right next to you and don’t do anything stupid. I think he’s good I just think people aren’t used to him so they don’t try and lame him out because I think
Turtling vs spencer is the proper strat when you have a life lead. B+ not top tier IMO same category as sent.

Wesker is A or B+ (at the very worst). The dude is insane.

Sent and Spencer Are great Anchor characters and that it’s only because of x-factor IMO. Many of the games I’ve seen have them as anchors and when they are last they do tons of damage.

I’ve played Spencer as anchor recently like combofiend and yeah he is great because of X-factor but he doesn’t do well against rush-down characters.

Sent loses to a lot of keep away characters or tactics. I’d say B+ for both.

Then again I’m no expert or great player like the ones I’ve seen.

My personal top 10 list based on the use of x-factor, what I’ve seen, and other things in a match is -

Sent
Spencer
Phoenix
Dormammu
Wolverine
She-hulk
Wesker
Super skrull (yeah I know ----- who? but this guy is good with certain assists his elastic slam is
dangerous. Does tons of damage with use of one meter -inferno)
Magneto
Chris (one of the better keep away characters. Does tons of chop damage with grenades etc.)

Yeah its stuff like this that makes me wonder how people are going to even hit Dante in the future.

My thoughts exactly, holy shit. I literally said “What the fuck? Tron as low tier? You’re fuckin high.” And similar comments for Phoenix and Storm.
