Very nice. What do you use?
That’s tight man, the only thing I dont’ like about it is the kick, but it’s more of a matter of taste, i see others liking it, and I see others who won’t.
oh, I did it on FL Studio 7 Producer’s Edition.
When I listen to it with Fresh ears, though…maybe I should turn down the 808…

So anyone pick up reason 4 yet?
I got it, and i’m JUST about to start gettin’ into the THOR.
I was planning on releasing this track on Newgrounds so the artists there can use this track but I wanna post in here first so I could get some critiques and tips on mixing for this track. This is still just a rough idea for the final track. The bass sounds dead and obnoxious and the strings seem to get cluttered in some spots.
This is my first try at a classical sort of thing so forgive me .
well Ive been messin arounf with the FL Studio demo for awhile, anyone know where to get some good Drum’n’Bass and breakbeat sample beats?
register for this site, and they have a bunch of shit to get you started
they have over 50 drumkits and a bunch of sound kits and acapellas. You have to register and go to producer’s corner…

thanks.
Experienced people:
Me and my homie are lookin to start a label. He knows more of the tech shit and I know more of the business side. We have enough equipment to record vocals over beats we make, but not much and probably not the best. We have alot of great talent around here too that hasn’t been tapped into as well, much less even looked at.
Is there any advice you could give us? Would there be more advice if I provided more information?
i got an e-mail from a label, i might just have my first release soon.
: )
Give me some details (PMs wil lget responses faster) and I’ll spill beans. I’ve been up and down most of the roads, only reason I dont have a label is that its not what I REALLY want to do…I’m more interested in the music, I’ll let go of money if it means I can keep myself happy ya dig.
So my money is finally getting aired out a bit, so I’m back to studio upgrades. I’m trying to move this MPC-1000 off my hands and pick up an electronic drum set. Does anyone have experience with these, no what I shoudl look for between brands? all I know to look for atm are sounds and freq. response. My current list - Alesis DM5 Pro (600$) and the Yamaha DTXPLORER (700$).
I’m also looking for a CD/MP3 player with scratch ability…currently looking at the Denon DN-S1000 (400$) and the Stanton C.313 (300$). I’m NOT trying to DJ, its purely for production and pos-production work. In a month I’ll demo some of the new stuff I’ve been working on, been keeping it under wraps since I’m changing so much.

congratz, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get an entertinment lawyer look over the shit before you sign a damn thing, dont’ accept ANYTHING until someone looks over it.

The joys of trying to build up a production setup. so here’s a question for everyone - I’ve got a 66 key M-Audio Midi/USB controller. should I…
A) Get a Rack Unit (leaning heavy on the Motif rack unit)
B) Get an actual Motif to plug in directly to say my MPC (if I keep it) or other software?
I’m praticly sold on the Pioneer Digital turntable (the 1100-1300 dollar one), so I’m thinking of just holding onto my MPC instead of trying to scoop a drum set, and then get either a rack or a new board…but I’m having some brain freezes on which way to go.

Sup people. I put four “new” tracks up on my page. I say “new” because I’m really lazy and been sitting on them for a couple of months now.
Don’t you hate it when you try to do something different sample wise and then you see someone more “in the light” do it. It’s happened 4 times already. Any feedback on the Chrono Trigger homage would be appreciated. I liked the original and decided to not really change it. I planned on doing a few more and got the foundation down for another track but . . .
I got a e-mail from one of the bigger EDM labels asking me to want to sign with them. It sucks because I’ve already signed the track with another smaller label, not that i’m not dissatisfied with them, i mean they have some big choons comming soon, but it’s really nice to hear from a bigger label.
I doubt I’ll get responses, but in case I do, whats peoples opinions on the 3 popular workstations/rack units - motif/triton/fantom? I was leaning on the motif, but I’ve been talked into the Fantom at this point. Still trying to figure out which way to go…the motif is better for my acoustic stuff apparently, but my current synth kick will sound better on the fantom. any recommendations?
And fuck…Guitar Center is sold out of MIDI cables. Thatsl ike Foot locker not having any shoe laces…or CVS not having aspirin.

It really depends on what you like. If you’re into Synthezier sounds, I would say go for Fantom. But if you are into Synthesizers, there are so many other options out there. Of course, It depends on your budget. I saw Roland’s V-Synth GT in action. It blew me away.
The Triton is solid, and overused. The workstation is the easiest to use out of the three. At least to me it is. It’s fairly simple to get it up and running and making music in no time.
The Motif is the hardest to learn out of the three. It has nice acoustic sounds, though other companies have made better, more realistic (and more expensive) sounds/products. It has nice Synth sounds as well.
If I were to put them in order: Roland, Motif, Triton.
I’m not for sure what you are looking for though. Are you looking for a rack or a workstation? If you are just looking for sounds, there are much more options. If you are on a current Synth phase, you should really talk to some Electro-heads.
It also depends how much money you have.
Native Instruments Komplete is about the same price as any of those rack units… Considering if you have a rack you have a keyboard with some knobs… There is no comparison in what the rackmount romplers can do compared to something like the instruments in Komplete. I mean Kontakt itself is basically a much better version of any of the workstations but without a sequencer and thats one instrument out of like 10 in the package.
Just my 2 cents. I know there are draws to having hardware… But like on the real real real those workstations are incredibly out of date at this point. Just think that the Triton line was introduced in hm about 98. And the technology running it dates back to the O1/w(I think) which is from like the early 90s. That shit is OLD. I mean patches on the Triton can have ONE filter, at you are limited to low or high pass. Its horrible technologically(I own one) but I do understand the desire for one, especially if you are just starting out…
That said I would recommend the Motif, myself. I havent used it or the Fantom as much as the Triton but the Motif sounds seem the best and as a controller it should be real nice.
Welll the thing about music, age doesn’t matter as much as people think. I’d take someone with experience on an older board against someone with no experience on a new board. Hell I saw an interesting statisticin one of the computer magaizines for music - the majority of musicans can only use 15% of the stuff they have, like they don’t even know how to use the rest. I’m personally trying to step away from relying on computer based production. I’m trying to escape using any loops, not even really using them for snares. When I first start a beat - yeah it will be looped, but my current musical focus is a ‘band’ vibe, and if you listen to any real band, nothign really loops except for blues.
My current project, I’m trying to capture the 70s soul vibe and feel, but with a bit more synthy sound. I’ll more than likely focus heavily on acoustic drums, but everything else will be a bit mroe synth in sound. I’m planning on buying three pieces of equipment over the next 4-5 months, and the argumentive piece that I can’t figure out for the life of me is my sound source. Again, I’m trying to get away from doing everything in Reason. I already have a radium 61-key controller, so I’m leaning to wards the cheaper rack-units, especially if I use the MPC-1000 for my sequencing. However money is a thing so I’m trying to get the best I can get. Triton at this point has been done to death, but the motif is going that way as well. However I also know that people don’t play with the sounds like they really can, so there is still a ton of potential in BOTH units. The Fantom though was slept on so now it seems like its ‘new’. Currently I can scooop a motif ES rack unit for 800 bux, everything else is going to cost me over a G it seems unless I eBay it.
