Music Producers Thread v 3.0

Let’s try and revive this old thread, and maybe get people who are interested in producing music some info. I’ll try and update this often. This little mini guide I wrote is incomplete but I’ll finish it eventually.

this regularly. Right now this mini guide I’m making is incomplete but

What’s the best sequencer for a beginner?
Most people will tell you Flstudio and Reason. Flstudio is very intuitive, and reason has everything you need in one package,

however, reason cannot load any VSTs. Flstudio is more flexible in that you can load VST instruments and FX, but remember that

VSTs aren’t free.

What are some other sequencers I can use?
Cubase
Cakewalk
Buzz
FLStudio
Reason
Ableton Live
Pro Tools
Logic

These are just some of the sequencers out there. I will add more sequencers to the list and add links soon.

What are some good free VSTi?
Synth 1 -
Link:http://www.kvraudio.com/get/214.html
Superwave P8
Link:http://home.btconnect.com/christopherg/main.htm
Triangle 2

What are some good commercial ones?

Z3ta+
Albino
V-Station
Absynth
FM8
Korg Legacy Collection
Pro-53
Minimoog v
Trilogy
Atmosphere

What if I want to make my own synths?
Try out either Reaktor or Synthmaker

What’s the best program out there?
None. There have been numerous releases by artists who’ve released stuff on free trackers such as Buzz to professional programs

like Pro Tools. There is no best sequencer.

Where can I learn about music theory?
http://www.allmusicmethods.info/music_ed/rsg2mt.pdf

What if I’m too lazy to read that?
Music theory will help you especially if you don’t know a thing about music and just started. If you’re too damn lazy to read that, just play in key. Your ears will guide you.

I was just about to make a new thread myself. I just got back into producing not too long ago. New pages, new name, new sound etc etc. Kind of rusty tho, so I was definitely wondering what SRK thought of my newness. And of course this is a good place for networking so maybe there are some other boss producers in here.

^^ New shit…crack…seriously.

I guess I’ll get in on this thread. Last time, the whole thread simply died.

I’m quite the beginner at this. Making music is more of a side hobby than anything serious.

who are trying to get signed by diplo

Also, i have expanded my scoring to small PSAs and am actually in the position to make a career out of it. scary huh.

Hosted online to share with friends but here is some electronic music I made.

Recently did a tribute to daft punk.

Screw ever paying for cubase. I bought a carillon pc, paid 200 odd or whatever for cubase a few years back. Randomly stopped working few weeks back. Reintalled it only to find that my serial number doesnt work. Turns out they left off the ‘1’ at the end of ever serial they printed or something eqiually ridiculous.

Also it crashes if you try and save a file when its playing.

If you can actually get the damn thing to work, its great tho.

Reaper, bitches.

I’m a Reason whore, been one for the past few years now, and I still only use about 1/10th of its abilities if that. Subtactor + Maelstrom + drum machine + sampler = ggpo…

  • :bluu:

Cubase sx3, Fl, Reason, Appleton, Cubase 4. Im getting a minor in electronic music and been focusing the last year or so on composing in cubase but i’m alright with just about any program.

…but you can’t beat me with those Ronald McDonald boots.

Thanks a lot man, didn’t check it out yet but you can never have too many drums.

Anyway, my music page is…

So what is everyone’s main style that they produce? I mean of course everyone wants to say “I have no genre…” but if you had to narrow it down, what types are your favorites to make or most often created? Also, do you have a regular way of going about making a track? I know some people that (during sample based tracks) will insist on doing a drum pattern first and then fit the sample to it, while others are the opposite…etc.

By the way…SRK Mixtape…your time on this planet was a short one, but I hope you enjoyed your stay…!

      Sensei

P.S. I still got some phoenix downs if anyone wants the SRK Mixtape concious again. o_O

anyone have vst or refill versions of popular keyboards, i.e. tritons, motifs etc?

i tried before, but noone seemed interested when i asked about trading contacts, connects in the industry etc or even just talking about good directions to move to a professional level shrug

morning blunt and beat session.^^^

eks ask me about reason refills on aim.

i know a LOT.

hold the fuck up…how you got 6 songs, son?!

i usually go by the sample first if i’m sampling but from scratch it’s always the main melody. i work around that and go from there.

i still wanna rap over that intro loop from Blind Dream. i still think that shyt is sick.

myspace:

Trying to get into Dj’in, would love some SRK beats to scratch the hell up…Looking to have my setup within the next few months (September)

R.I.P Srk Mixtape too. We had alot fo producers but no rappers maybe another time. I use Reason, Cubase, Sonar. I only know the basics in each program.
