Music Producers Thread v 3.0

New shit:

Yo, what would be the best music producing software for a total beginner? It’s not for me, it’s for a friend, but he has really no idea how to do anything with it. He’s more than willing to learn, and probably what he’ll start off doing will be pretty basic mixing. I saw all the links on the first page, but don’t know what to recommend my friend for starters.

Majority of the people are going to say FL Studio.

Thanks playa. plus rep

No prob

If you need some tutorials to help your friend get started out.

has really good FL Studio tutorials as well as Reason tutorials.

Awesome. Gracias.

Hey what’s up guys!

I haven’t posted in mad long because i’ve been without the internet but even without the internet i’ve started taking my music to the next level. I got real sick of no DJs spinning the tracks i gave them all the time so I decided to start picking up DJing. I work with DJ CSHARP now and we are killing like 2-3 shows a week! Mad fun. I like being able to spin whatever I want or spin a whole set of original music that fires up the dance floor. Anyway i updated my page, www.myspace.com/adubbeats.

Anyone know of any awesome online city specific promoting circle jerks? we are having a hard time getting word out about the shows. We just hired a promoter (a 4’10’’ viet chick who will drink all of us under the table) and I guess she is gonna take care of most of that but i would love to blindside her with suggestions in the next meeting.

thanks guys! and if any of you live in or around philly hit me up for show details =)

I would say check out Ableton Live also. The only con with Ableton is that it doesn’t have that EZ mode Piano Roll FLS has.

Was messing around for a bit today

I was kinda pissed at this point because I started two times before when it was recording. Then I went in for like 4 minutes straight without looking up - before I noticed the only thing on the screen was a snapshot of my face before I started.

Edit:
Couldnt help myself, the remix[URL=“http://forums.shoryuken.com/yansoma.com/D.mp3”]

Heres a zip of 9 songs I made.

Let me know what you think. To get people do DL this, I’ll make some kinda inflammatory statement like… errr…

“I’m the best producer on SRK”. Did it work?

^^^ I’m a check those out when I get home.

My buddy makes his beats on Reason. They all come out really professional sounding. I tried making beats myself on FL and everything sounded techno and I wanted it to be hip hop but that might be because I just suck at making beats.

Downsample the drums, and distort 'em out a bit. Whatever filters on whatever sound editing program might dirty up the sound a bit better to your liking, and to something a bit more hiphop steez’d. I know what you’re talking about when shit winds up sounding techno-y.

I used to do beats on an mpc2000, and an mpd16 trigger with cubase, til around 2004.
Fire wiped my shit out, lost all my samples, records, tapes, backups, hardware. I said fuck it for good.

If anyone on here is making that headknocking neckbreaking thunderdome shit that kicks your eardrum in it’s asshole twice … do pm me. I’d like to listen.

Possibly. Also, the software itself really has little to nothing to do with it sounding “techno” or whatever. Are you using stock sounds? Stop, man.

The first thing I did wrong was use all pre-sets. Learn to sample good and you’ll sound good. I’m very rusty since I haven’t touched a track in forever, but good way to learn is to make a song using only samples that you recorded/ripped and touched up yourself.

I was working on doing a full custom sample library, but that kind of project is a huge undertaking.

Haven’t been in this thread in a bit, and it brings a tear to my eye when I realize that all my gear has been untouched for a so long.

Using the correct reverb will also help remove that fruityloops robotic sound.

FL Studio has techno templates when you start out making beats. You might have to make/sample your own samples. I personally don’t think the stock vsts (they’re nto really vsts, but you know what i mean) aren’t all that great but pro sounds have been made out of them.

It really doesn’t matter what program you use, FLS used to be so bad like EJay bad, that’s why it has the bad rep it has.

check out my myspace

you’ll probably like “crackin up”

Did anyone DL that zip I put up? Please… someone give me some feedback.

Hey guys, I was wondering if one of you could do me a huge favor and take vocals from a master track, rip them clean, and put them on the same track but an acoustic version with no lyrics?

I’m not trying to barge into this thread and ask for things but I tried it myself and I got it, but I didn’t like the quality so I scrapped it.

Any help would be great.
