So, i’m about to get 2 Pioneer CDJ-800 (non MK2) for a old laptop I had lying around…should I ebay them or are they pretty good?
^ get serato instead, better investment imo. and a whole lot cheaper.
yea…getting that this week:lovin:
Do you have to have a specific sound card if you wanna use an MPC and MIDI keyboard with your computer or will they just plug and play?
plug and play, pretty much.
If someone hasn’t said it already you should try Xponent. They usually have one set up at guitar center or sam ash. Its freaking awesome and has everything built in, no need for an external mixer, just hook it up to the amp.

Good/Bad?
If the Midi keyboard doesn’t have a USB extension or if you dont have MIDI ports on your PC you will have to get an adapter to go from midi to usb. Same for your MPC if you want to use the pads as a MIDI Controller only. However, if you want to be able to record the audio from your MPC (depending on which MPC you have) you are going to need a USB-Audio interface. I use the M-Audio Fire Track Pro. E-Mu also has a couple. They are around 200 bucks. Right now I have it set up so I can sample from my PC into my MPC, chop up the sample, make the beats and patterns and then record in using Ableton Live Lite (Audio interfaces usually come with pack in software demos or “lite” versions
It works fine…it’s just mediocre as a regular keyboard.
Its on a few sites for 19.99 Good deal eh?
So I got the 2 turntables and a mixer (with case) for a ~250$ laptop. I’m hyped cause I was basically going to give that laptop away…now I got about a G worth of DJin equipment!
Mine broke, well tbh it’s all on me.
crumbs went all over my keyboard, i spilled drinks, and someone i knew leaned their elbow on one of the keys and it broke .
it had trouble with my flstudio 7 though, on occasion it would crash and you can’t play anything on the keyboard.
i bought a midi keyboard and now I never have that problem with fl studio.
Yeah this is where I first saw you’re stuff. I’m MLaw3k, dunno if you remember me.
Making big moves eh? Good shit and good luck. You’re stuff is hella good I hope you make it.
im getting better
That’s what’s up…I’m probably gonna snag a cheap dj controller type thing like the to start on the DJing thing…add tables and some timecoded vinyl down the line. Yo, you could run serato, deckadance, tracktor, or mixxx off a $300 netbook if you decide to go live like that in the future.
What are some great hip hop sample cds? Is there like an “industry standard” cd i should look out for? In 4x4 dance music, they use the Vengeance sample cds. I’m mostly looking for one shots, 808 kicks layered with stuff, kicks that sound more real, and maybe a few extras.
I’m just way too lazy to sample, layer, and all that crap for my kicks.
And I know someone is gonna be like “don’t use that sample cd because you’ll sound like everyone else” well i might as well not use pianos because it’s overused. Sorry if I don’t want to be a unique butterfly. /sigh
Yea, honestly this whole DJin’ thing came to me almost all free. My boy from Charlotte had me do a get together for a friend; never DJ’ed for real so I was just chillin on them. Next thing I know he asked me to do his wedding in september!
So, I didn’t have any turntables, until yesterday. I also worked a 15 in Macbook Pro out of my boss at work, so I have a 2k laptop for my gigs…only need Serato now
No the trick for sample drums is to simple take them and layer them with your own sounds…then you sound like no one.
On that note I ahte layering kicks and snares, it never sounds good when I do it hehe.

The best route to go is to download the enormous sample packs that exist on every torrent website, I literally managed to come across 30gigs of oneshots, etc that way.
Search for “artytorrent” in a torrent search.
Been sitting on this for awhile because I don’t know what else to do outside of looping it over.

Anyone have a link to a good mastering guide or some generic tips they themselves use?
Edit: Oh yeah, picked up a shiny new SM58S today, I think I have a new best friend. Just waiting on a mixer now…
