Hey everyone, I thought I’d introduce myself to you all. I’m a huge fan of 2d fighting games, especially the street fighter alpha series (currently playing 3).
I’m a programmer too and I’m currently working on a street fighter alpha 4 project using the Mugen 2d fighting game engine.
;================================================================
wanna know about the project ?
The game uses similar mechanics to A3 which consists of damage and frametimes. Powergains and other stuff have been tweaked slightly. Characters also use the Custom Combo system from A2 (not 100% accurate)
The game features 39 characters in total with some hidden/unlockable characters too.
Here is some videos of the work I’ve currently programmed.
Please note Lifebars and stages shown in the videos are not part of the game!
You will notice a few sounds ripped from sf4 (copyright to capcom)
The project is in early stages still. (I do have a site/forum for info)
What’s Rage ? It’s basically a desperation type super that I implemented into the characters as a new feature.

Anyway my main point here is to get to know some people/make friends and also look for some help in beta testing my characters… I feel it’s important to get some professional feedback by the people who actually know what they are doing when it comes to street fighter alpha.
You know you can tone them down to normal levels by editing their .def files in notepad, right? I don’t know why people bitch about broken mugen characters as if you HAVE to keep their damage and speed levels jacked up.
Can anybody help me get Mugen set up? All the links seem to not work. I am trying to get this setup so I can play some Mugen while I am not playing GGPO/PS3 games.
No I am looking for one with a CVS2 based engine. No PS2 stick anymore. Just trying to get some gameplay like that in. I know people used to have these.
I made a fresh thread specifically stating that it was for playtesting and not necessarily discussion of the mugen engine, avoiding this one entirely because that, but since I MUST post in this single thread…
Kyo Kusanagi XIII - Ahuron

First off my computer sucks, so to play without slowdown and drop combos at least by my own fault, it’s best I simply record my screen with a camera. Didn’t go too far into mechanics here, just messing around and happy that I could use my camera for something. Besides, a moment after uploading it, I found some guy who did a proper combo video for this version of Kyo. Crazy inaccurate. Love them 50% ex fireball combos.
Shen Woo XIII - Ahuron

Link for both characters in the youtube description. More in depth this time comparing the Mugen to the authentic version. Two things I forgot to include were that he can’t do c.lk, c.lk, s.lk, and currently, playing two Shen Woo’s together, if I’m walking forward and have p2 shen woo do any kick attack, p1 will walk right through. So goes the quality of Ahuron’s characters.
There are some 100% accurate characters out there, if not for a few bugs. Unfortunately, most mugen coders are fucking retards, and think that everyone should have every system ever, or that originality being exercised on an already existing character isn’t ironic. Tis’ the problem with engines of any kind - the ones who can code and are willing to code don’t know shit about the systems they’re dealing with. The ones who are great at working the systems (read as: good at playing the original games) aren’t good at coding. Hence there’s a rift between competitive fighting gamers and Mugen coders, for the most part anyway.
Not to mention, I think the fighting game community has done itself an incredible disservice and dishonor by supporting Divekick as much as it has WHILE neglecting Mugen as much as it has. Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea behind Divekick, would love to play it, would fund it too, and I’m pretty hesitant to want to say this about the game cuz I don’t want to sound like I’m hating on it, but to get so much “hype” and support for a parody fighting game seems so motherfucking counterproductive. To think where we’d be at right now with the Mugen/Fighter Maker engines if people were willing to support those with that kind of money. Hell, people are already doing this stuff for free, what would happen if they were getting paid for their time and effort to expand upon the engine and/or simply assist in the creation of all the mainstream fighting games out there? Or better yet, make a brand new fighting game worthy of people’s attention?
Who doesn’t? I’ve begun to hate every iteration of Ken/Ryu/Akuma/Dan/Sean there is. It’s gotten to the point where I’m not interested in seeing anything new with those characters, overpowered or not.
