Not only is it about appeasing the people who are writing your checks, it’s also about forging a public image that is taken seriously. If we want to increase the maturity of esports and gaming events, we gotta cool it with the juvenile shit. What i saw on stream was just plain childish, sure I can see how a good portion of viewers/attendees would get offended, but at the time my thoughts were “this is some adolescent stuff right here. Not a good look for the fighting game community”.
It’s my understanding that Mr Wizard is trying to continue along this path of serious recognition for the FGC, it’s made apparent with having more serious publications picking up broadcasts (ESPN for example). You can’t have that kind of behavior broadcast to millions of viewers, whether it be sexist, racist, vile, etc…you gotta keep things professional.
OP, if you think it’s only an SJW thing than that’s your prerogative, but it’s a very narrow view of the big picture.
