"Movie And A Show" Thread: Popcorn Optional

I think the greater mystery is how anyone could believe brain surgery was as simple as swapping parts or how anyone could not figure out the plot early on after all the in your face foreshadowing. 2005’s ‘The Skeleton Key’ handled the concept of body swapping in a much more elaborate and believable way and slowly turned the suspense up to 11 across the full length of the film. ‘Get Out’ is a fairly weak horror film in comparison and uses hyperbole enough to completely break any momentum it builds up resulting in it coming off as a dark comedy that isn’t in any way funny.

I never thought get out was really a horror film. Just a good suspense movie… Us is Def horror but get out never came off as that to me

What I also didn’t like is that the explanation is so basic. I’m partly to blame for this; I was super-hype for the movie. I had a bunch of different possibilities in my head for who the Tethered were and why they’re trying to kill their twins. Though I would never presume to be a good writer or tell one how to do their business, it saddens me that just about ALL the possibilities I hyped up in my head excite me more than the reality. This despite all those theories being admittedly dogshit insane and not doable in a semi-realistic film like this. Stuff like:

-“Maybe they’re from a parallel universe, trying to kill the other versions of themselves because it’ll make them a more whole person.”
-“Maybe they became immortal and got to the point there’s nothing to live for, figuring the best way out is to just kill themselves in the past.”
-“Maybe they’re clones who were created because the Government found out mutants exist, and that somehow cloning “split” mutants’ powers and brought them back down to normal.”

And other shit like that. Even though I like this movie, it feels like a waste of a super-interesting premise.

It’s not surprising but still upsetting that my theater isn’t screening the Hail Satan? documentary. The closest theater that’s screening it is a 2 hour drive out of state.

Even Salt Lake City, Utah is screening it for fucks sake.

Trailer to this gives goosebumps…

Fuck I hate living in the Bible Belt. So about a week ago I bought a ticket for Hell Boy so I could see it opening day, first showing, right?

Fandango just emailed me issuing a refund due to my local theater pulling the movie from its release schedule

What the absolute fuck. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

The closest theater that is showing is over a 3 hour drive out of state.

I’m sorry you can’t move away, Stu. Must be hell.

I really wish I could move back to Tacoma (city about 20 minutes out of Seattle) but Seattle basically destroyed the housing economy there. Now there’s pretty much no difference in rent or housing pricing between the two cities. It’s fucked.

It’s why my sister and brother in-law are moving to Oklahoma by the end of the year. Everything is getting too fucking expensive there because Seattle’s grip on the local/near by cities like Tacoma keeps tightening.

Brutal man. I can’t imagine living in the bible belt lol

A lady tried to get one of my coworkers fired the other day because he had a pentagram necklace on. Like, she even talked to our store manager and “demanded” he be fired for insulting her beliefs as a Christian. Our store manager was like “while I may not agree with it, he’s well within his right to wear something that coincides with his beliefs. It’s no different than wearing a cross or a shirt with a Bible quote on it.”

Get fucked you old hag.

That’s a culture shock I do not wish to experience.

Oh it’s horse shit. I’ve been verbally assaulted within and outside of work for wearing LGBT+ clothing and pins. Same with pro immigration stuff.

About 2 months ago there was a god damn prayer circle at my store.

The audacity of these people just astounds me.

Isn’t austerity lovely?

Our greeter would also sing bible hymns to customers and shit. It got to the point where enough employees (and thankfully younger customers) complained that the manager told him he has to stop.

Religious zealotry. Insane.
