P4A also has a stigma among certain top players for supposedly being fraudulent (not my words) at high level play. Heck, I know two of the top airdash/anime players in the SEA region who actually trolled their way to top 8 at SEAM2013 just to prove that point. And didn’t MikeZ have some negative things to say about it as well? That kind of bad press isn’t exactly good for keeping a game alive competitively.
I think pretty much any airdasher that isn’t Marvel (yeah, I went there, even though I know it’s different in a sense) counts to some degree just because of the bizarre stigma surrounding them. I feel like DOA5U gets the same sort of thing because people get caught up in the whole “jiggly boobs” bit of it to look at the actual engine, or whatnot.
Pfft like if the game that those top players play (we know who they are) is less fraudulent, LMAO.
Also, who cares what MikeZ says, the more he speaks the more it seems that he is suffering from H.A.T.E.R.S.
Arcana Heart 3. The sprites have killed any chance of it being taken seriously, but the fighting system is amazing.
The way the Homing works in movement and continuing combos, the way choosing a different arcana can improve a would-be bad matchup, the way each arcana is used by each character.
So much depth, so much fun, but its written off on sight.
There’s also that Arcana Heart 3 came out right around the time of that PSN crash, so any chance it had of online was pretty much killed on sight.
As for the Mike Z thing…I remember him being supportive of BBCT until around the time it was discovered Tager was ass. I mean, I’m not saying it’s super related, but I remember him working on Skullgirls initially around the time he seemed upset with Arcsys, or Aksys, or whoever it was he aimed it towards, so who knows.
P4a has some dumb stuff in it but that’s what makes it so fun.
SF2:HF deserves as many players as ST, that game is also pretty enjoyable
You know what’s funny? People complaining about a certain aspects of a game then going back to praising another game which has those same aspects, maybe even a worse version of them. Not going to point out which player or which game but it is hilarious to me whenever I notice it.
Glad I’m not the first to mention it, but The One True Answer is Arcana Heart 3. It combines so many (most) of the mechanics that make modern fighting games fun, the characters are diverse, has customisation (Arcana selection) and FREE FUCKING FLYING FOR ALL CHARACTERS!! Yes, homing grappler. Obviously the graphics have turned many people off before they even bothered playing it. I’ve yet to meet someone who has played it for more than 4 seconds that doesn’t like the fighting engine even if they don’t like the graphics.
Honourable mentions to Phantom Breaker Extra, SamSho4, Psychic Force 2012, Pocket Fighter, Techromancer, WakuWaku7, Bleach DS 2nd, Last Blade 2 and Nurarihyon no Mago Hyakki Ryouran Taisen (on PS3 and 360, check it out if you can).
@keo-bas , you mention Senko no Ronde, which I love, but I wouldn’t consider it a fighting game. I think of it as a “VS Shmup”. (not that it matters)
