This whole thread is opinion, however if I were to pick one. Vampire Savior…way ahead of its time, and unlike anything before or since. Capcom just went crazy with their imagination. Shame very few in the West noticed…at least it was big in Japan and apparently still has a good scene there.
Kizuna Encounter. Really fun tag fighter, diverse set of characters, easy to pick up but not retarded like Breakers, somewhat balanced. Great game. Saw a very limited release in the arcades and an even more limited home port to the Neo Geo. Has never been re-released.
PC fighters are underrated anyway, but this particular case is the best example why
a precursor to the influx of anime fighters in the west.
Metal & Lace: The Battle of the Robo Babes is an anime-style fighting game developed by Forest and published by MegaTech Software in 1993. It’s based on the Japanese game Ningyō Tsukai with a different story and enhanced gameplay.
Nothing to censor here, Megatech decided to cripple the game to non-nude levels for demos and general release, and then sold a “nudity upgrade” upgrade disk via mail order (for only $8.95 plus shipping) which just added in some boobies.*
Western release was edited.
Actual Japanese uncensored version was released on FM Towns
In fighting games, I would say SC5 is pretty underrated. I would play it but online is basically dead.
I agree about the STXTK. I really like that game. It’s really fun. Too bad GfWL is going to be shut down and that game won’t be appearing on Steam (God knows why).
Kim has an infinite blockstun and you can Guard Cancel for free. The only character that Kim shuts down completely with the infinite is Eagle because Eagle’s Guard Cancel won’t hit Kim. Clown is the only one with a legit infinite but it’s fairly difficult to pull off and he’s not that a great character overall when compared to top tier.
Vanilla SFxT left such a horrible impression in so many aspects that the majority of people out there wouldn’t give 2013 a second glance.
Hell people still think the game is still time outs 24/7.
First impressions is everything, even if they can fix the game later on. I don’t think i’ve seen a company fuck up this bad in that area to this extreme.
Breakers Revenge/ Super Sho Fighter- Fun, simple game. If you pick Alsion, you’re messing up, trolling or both. Dao-long is my favorite charge character since his charge time is so short that he’s more of a Mortal Kombat/ Killer Instinct back-foward character than a charge character.
Garou Mark of the Wolves- While I think that 3S is a more technical game, I admit that I have more fun with Garou. If you like an SNK take on 3S complete with a laughably easy to use and broken top tier character, a huge difference in tiers and a poorly designed grappler who is 1/2 effective due to a glitch, play Garou.
KOF XI- My favorite KOF tied with 98, it’s a gem in the rough. Other than some balance issues and the fact that movement is a little slippery, the game is great. It’s fast, it’s like MVC2 in the fact that the player can switch out characters on the fly and if you really practice the game, the game rewards you with stupid combo and damage possibilities. It’s a barrel of fun, I hope you all play it.
