I’m not sure how far it went (I actually heard about it from SRK). Are you saying that’s it’s perfectly legal to make an exact carbon copy of a copyrighted(?) character just so long as there aren’t any other similarities? I didn’t know that.
I think the basic theory is, since Midway put each article in separately, Capcom has no case if someone choses to put all those articles together and it “happens” to look like Bison. A friend of mine sent me a pic of “Zangief” in the PC game “city of heroes” a while back. Capcom to my limited knowledge, took no action, unlike Marvel’s whiny asses. Now, if Midway actually had a character in the game that resembled Bison, Capcom would have a case. This issue seems like one Midway would have sought legal advice on, anyway. I am sure a legal firm defined to them the idea of copyright infringement.
The lawsuit Marvel had against City of Heroes came to mind when i first saw the create a character in MKA. I believe that case ended up settling out of court, but before that the judge threw out a lot of Marvel’s claims.
And besides, Capcom never displayed the kind of fanatical copy protection Marvel and other comic makers do. For god’s sake, Marvel and DC copyrighted “Super Hero” and its many variations.
There will be no lawsuit for this create-a-character system. And, sadly, the create-a-character system looks like the only entertaining aspect of this game thus far.
I understand where you’re coming from, but unfortunately you guys are way outnumbered. If millions of people are buying it, they aren’t going to give a shit what 600 hardcore fans think. MK has become another part of that huge machine known as profit and there’s not a lot hardcore fans can do about it, barring boycotting that franchise.
I actually have a funny story regarding MK Deception. I work at Sony in San Diego and met a guy in my building who used to work for midway. This guy is the biggest fucking asstard on earth. Guess what the last game was he worked on at Midway? MKD. I just started busting out laughing at him when he told me he worked on it. Thats not something I’d willingly admit to anyone.
I dunno…there’s a character in Gunstar Heroes who looks just like him, and dresses in red…and then there’s Broken from World Heroes…and Hanzo and Fuuma ain’t nothing BUT ripoffs…but Capcom didn’t do jack-squat. Selective enforcement for the win. I guess the whole Data East thing has them scared to swing at anything less than a sprite rip from one of their games.
You might want to find one of those coupons that pays you to buy MKD. In other words, it’s not even worth buying unless you want to familiarize yourself with the combo system of the 3D games a bit before getting MKA, which will have more things added to it.
No… you whip out a Playstation1 and some EBay bookmarks, because it’s Super GEM Fighter MiniMix that’s on SFA:A. It uses the Puzzle Fighter sprites, but it’s not Puzzle Fighter.
You’re not telling me anything I don’t already know. Apparently when I was referring to PF on SFA:A, I was referring to GF. Just a name change. That still doesn’t change the fact that Midway completely raped Capcom’s PF from the ground up.
