Morrigan 3.0 lvl up video thread

Probably not but she’s fun as hell to play as. But at the same time, I just use Ko on my totally chilled out fun time team as apposed to my Getting Work Done Team of Haggar/Spencer/Hawkeye.

She’s workable in the level of play that people play at right now, not the future standard. The top characters in this game absolutely remove her from playing, when played correctly. As an assist, before being charged up she’s terrible, and after being charged up she takes too much damage. Most characters can just projectile often enough to set up a reactionary THC to kill her (With proper point characters the start up is invulnerable too, making this a hard counter)

She has too many problems for me to take her seriously, and it’s not because of lack of research.

Also, beats characters 1 on 1 is absolutely ridiculous. I can comfortably super jump with almost any character and ignore Hsien Ko for the very, very small duration of that super then massacre her for having no effective mobility.

I assume you’re talking about projectile flood?
Soul Fist L/M, flight, Soul Fist H, unfly, call Doom, super jump, Soul Fist L, fly, Soul Fist M, unfly, activate Astral Vision, repeat. Going in under Astral Vision is silly because it gets really hard to tell which Morrigan to block. Air dash down j.S or j.H can crossup, standing L hits low, flight cancel a normal into j.S for semi-instant overhead. Chris G is doing Shadow Blade into flight, falling j.S which can cross up sometimes, depending on which version of Shadow Blade you used and when you cancel into flight. Fun stuff.

Yeah, those were some intense moments in those matches. I remember cheering every time Marlin got a hit on Morrigan with C. Viper, and then just wondering “what the hell are you doing?!” when he went for resets against her. Great stuff to watch.

Chris G managed to win convincingly. Gotta admit that Doctor Doom Hidden Missiles are one heck of an assist.

Now I can calmly wait as the UMvC3 cast crying for nerfs. Not against Doom, but Morrigan.

It already happened. Ppl saying shes needs to be patched, her building meter while in AV is broken, etc. They are complaining about stuff that existed for a year but NOW its a problem. The ignorance is astounding.

It didn’t exist for a year. Soul fist didn’t have nearly as much hit stun as it does now.

AV + Hidden missiles didnt exist? Building meter during AV didnt exist? Opponents gettin juggled by AV’ed Soul fists didnt exist? I beg to differ.

They didn’t get juggled anywhere near the degree they do now. The rest of it has been there forever yeah, but with the increased hit/block stun, and faster flight start up the lock down is much stronger.

You have to realize that not many people even used Morrigan, and hardly if ever even saw her do this, on stream or not. It’s not like people were just avoiding Morrigan, they really had no way of knowing. It’s not their fault…

To most of the community, this stuff is new. Although, as a day 1 Morrigan main it shocked me when I first saw it on the 8 Way Run Stream.

I saw tech for Morrigan + Hidden Missiles and even Morrigan + Sentinel Force posted in the Vanilla MVC3 Morrigan video thread, way back in Feb 2011. Astral Vision was not demonstrated in the videos and only the horizontal layer of the lock down was featured. See below.

Doom himself was also improved, so there’s that too. It’s definitely a good strategy, but it’s not easy to maintain and you can’t just fire soul fists anywhere - you need to think about where those soul fists are going to go.

That said, I think the reaction to Morrigan’s showing at Curleh Mustache is a little bit much and unwarranted. Morrigan didn’t even win the tournament.

But it wasnt curly mustache where i started hearing this. It was in december, the month after ppl said Morrigan is still AYUSS. Soul drain doesnt change the lockdown at all. If anything it slows it down. Ppl dont pay attention to what you’re throwing, they just wanna avoid it. I dont recall shell kick having more priority. Wesker still grabs me out of it if he wants to lol

I hear this from the person I played since vanilla and i ALWAYS used Morrigan then. Theres no excuse for said person.

Just loaded up vanilla to make sure I’m not crazy, and I strongly suggest you do the same NinjaLink. AV Soulfist spam in vanilla could not even link more than 2 sets of soulfist together (lets say if you’re lucky, you’d hit 4 total soulfists, infact on sentinel I’m struggling with even getting 2 sets to hit)

In ultimate, if you hit them with 1 soulfist, they’re eating 7 more minimum. The lockdown with astral vision wasn’t nearly as efficient, sure you might hit 2 soulfists or 4 and get 240k total damage. You can take 400k+ off an incoming character easily if a soulfist barrage hits in ultimate.

It did less damage, less hit stun, less soulfists would link together. It was far more difficult to hit 450k meterless combos with her, and using several soul fists in a normal combo was out of the question. I mained morrigan in vanilla, as do I in ultimate, it’s not like I’m completely clueless on the subject. She’s a completely stronger beast in ultimate, including AV spam soulfists.

Also, shell kick does have higher priority, as does her jumping h.

The hit boxes on both jH and jS got rather nice buffs going into Ultimate. Most all of Morri’s air normals now beat Zero’s jH pretty clean other than her jM.

I’m not saying its exactly the same as its clear it isnt. I’m saying the things ppl are actually complaining about, were still there to begin with. The juggle factor was there but of course not to the extent it is now. They talk as if NONE of this was possible before at the very least.

For example, Does any of you remember the Wesker gun loop that ppl were gettin upset over when ultimate came out? Were you aware that it was also in vanilla? No one complained then but they do now. Know why? Cause someone just wants more reasons to complain about something. Zero is in the same boat. Complaining about lightning loop, corner to corner, damage etc. Lightning loop was always there, his normals did more damage, he didnt scale as much. But did people really bytch about Zero then as they do now? Not even close.

I know what you’re saying Slottm. You’re right about that. I remember juggling hulk which was funny back then. I’m just sayin, ppl complain just to do it and just find more stuff just to add to it. Next you’re gonna hear “Why does she have a 3 frame move that can cancelled? PATCH IT!!” Its just sickening.
