MLG Pro Circuit Controller Thread

I picked up one of the pro floating dpads at Evo, and it’s one SERIOUS improvement over the stock dpads. It sucks that it puts the total cost at $115, but it’s one damn sweet controller once there.

Is there a warranty with this controller? If so how long

Bawse!

2 years. We back our product up.

Well shyt thats all I needed to hear then because I want the hell out of this controller… When I bought that sfxt pad it was too small for my hands…and I go thru the sf4 pads like water due to my heavy handed button pressing…

Wish id known about this at final round … Id prolly would of made it out my pool lol

Hi , do u have a link or something to look for that dpad ? The ones that come with the pad are unusable for fighters.

Thx , ordered now on gameshark.fr .

I’m seriously thinking about getting one of these soon. After months and months of using a stick for T. Hawk, I’ve settled that I’m much faster with the butter churning on a pad – and the stock Xbox pad is fine if not for that crap dpad it comes with.

But MarkMan, I seriously wish this was a six-button pad. It seems like this pad is more geared towards FPS gamers and not FG players. A fightpad with swappable parts would be amazing, because personally, I hate the SFxT pad solely because of the d-pad. Also, with a fightpad like this you’d probably be able to include microswitched face buttons. I’d honestly like a control scheme to have the option of a d-pad in SNES style, Sega Saturn style, PS style, an analog stick, or a Neo Geo type stick. I think that covers everyone lol. I think us pad warriors are really overlooked in terms of what we get to use versus arcade stick players. (Honestly, I game on both for FGs, but I use mostly grapplers, so I kind of get no benefit from a stick lol)

But other than my pipe dreams, I will buy this pad shortly.

It is called the MLG Pro for a reason

But yes, a Fightpad with similar options would be ideal for a lot of people out there.

I just ordered one off Amazon. Paid extra for next day shipping, so I’ll have it tomorrow to test drive. I personally think the PDP Versus Pad is the best one out, aside from the horrendous build quality. The silver Xbox 360 pad is my 2nd favorite, except the dpad broke on that one too. At least with this one it’s a $15 replacement with little fuss if something breaks.

Hopefully this thing sells well enough Mad Catz invests into making a higher end fight pad like this. It’s one of the reasons I bought it, to show people would buy a high end pad lol. Esp. those in the FGC.

It would a kind of fucked up angle but technically it looks like you could have a pro-module that would slot into the right-most module receptor (?!?) that could be extra buttons. That said I think that the ultimate pad for fighting games would be some hybrid of the PS2 Dualshock (really good triggers), Sega Saturn Pad (godlike d-pad) and Hori Fighting Commander 3 Pro (great controller shape and face buttons).

LOL yeah, two more buttons where the right stick is would be kind of fucked up haha. I don’t think that’s even possible, though. I think that spot is just for analog controls, as many reviews I’ve read said you can’t swap a d-pad module there, either.

I’d say just give me six buttons (microswitches), two shoulder buttons for 3P + 3K, and a shape that’s ergonomic. The PDP and Hori are weird ass shapes but they are comfy. The Mad Catz SFxT pad is old school, which is fine, but it’s not comfortable at all lol. My hands get cramped all the time using it. The button placement is fine, so Mad Catz should use that as a model, and integrate some of the Pro Circuit features.

Or if they are really lazy, just copy the Neo Geo pad and make it modern with swappable faceplates and crap lol. Take my money. I freakin’ LOVED the Neo Geo Pocket’s stick. I never used the console’s pad, but from what I hear it’s great. I doubt there’s any way Mad Catz can make a pro module akin to that. If they ever did, I’d hand write a thank you letter to their offices lol. I can deal with a four button layout w/ a Neo Geo directional stick.

just buy the regular fightpad

I own the fightpad, like I mentioned. It’s not comfortable and I don’t like the d-pad. I play grapplers and find it annoying and uncomfortable to do 360s and 720s on it over long periods. It’s something that’s effortless on a stock 360/PS3 pad and on the PDP Versus Pad (and to a degree, an arcade stick), but on the fightpad it just feels awful to me. It’s one of the first things I noticed after I bought it for $42 from Gamestop upon release; rolling motions are crap on that thing – it’s stiff as hell and I find it to simply be a bigger version of the Xbox 360’s dpad.

The only redeeming qualities of the fightpad are that the buttons are close together so my thumb can hit multiple buttons at once if needed, it’s a six button lay out, and it has swank art work on it. Other than that, I don’t see myself using it for fighters. 2D games like Streets of Rage, sure lol.

I hope the Pro Circuit will be a happy medium. It should be on my door step in an hour.

Ok I just got mine in, and I have some quick impressions:

  1. This is a solid product, at least it feels that way. You can hold it in your hands and know why it costs $100. Quality all the way. It doesn’t feel cheap at all.

  2. Changing the modules is a snap, and I like how I can reconfigure everything without exiting the game or turning off the console. Everything is hot swappable.

  3. Let me get this out of the way, the d-pads are ass for FGs. They both suck equally. I’ll eventually get around to trying the fightpad module, but given my history with the SFxT pad, I doubt I’d enjoy it lol. I’ll get it one day though, because I’m a curious person lol. I’m not holding my breath for anything earth shattering, as I’m the best on arcade-like controls like on the PDP Versus and Neo Geo Pocket.

  4. The Xbox stick has this weird resistance pull when going up and down. It’s great if I was playing a FPS or a game that needed accurate aiming, but for FGs, it’s ass. Surprisingly, the PS3 sticks don’t have that problem. So either I did something to increase the resistance or it’s just made that way. I dunno. For FGs, I suggest the PS3 sticks. They def. feel tighter than the stock Dual Shock’s, so it feels like an in between of the PS2 and PS3.

  5. The USB cable is boss. It makes me wish Mad Catz would include a screw on braided cable for their arcade sticks, honestly. It would make travel easier and would take customization to the next level with diff. color options and lengths available.

  6. The weight system is great. I’m still playing around trying to find something I like.

  7. The location of the Start/Back buttons are good, but take some getting used to. They take effort to press so it’s not like you can accidentally pause the game in the middle of something. Same with the guide button.

Overall, I like this controller, but I wouldn’t suggest it solely for FGs as it’s just not up to par in that genre. I would def. love this for everything else, however. My major gripe with playing Final Fantasy XIII on 360 was that I wasn’t playing it on a PS3 style pad… Now I can play XIII-2 with it and feel more “at home” lol. Same with Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. I mean, I noticed some kind of improvement in FGs – I tested SF4 and 3S, but nothing ground breaking for me. In SF4 I’m just ass right now no matter what I use and in 3S it’s much easier on my TE-S, so whatever lol.

Using this really makes me hope for a similiar device for the pad warriors in the FGC. Imagine being able to buy swappable faceplates with licensed art on it for example. There’s a lot of potential here.

the dpad for me is kinda screwed up. like if i press down or up it randomly does a left. even if use the other dpad or if i switch where its connected. this thing is definitely not for FGs. and good thing i use the dpad minimally on FPS… but man… for its price i expected something like to NOT happen.

i still prefer this than a PS3 controller. but against the 360 with transforming dpad? dunno. the only problem i had with that is its ass battery.

well if actually paid attention to this discussion you would know that they offer a fightpad modules for this controller for 15 bucks on the official madcatz website

hmmmmmmmm sounds like your overall technique needs improvement… not hating but if your soul searching for a controller to make up for minor execution problems then its not the controller…

I got the SF4 fightpad and my only issue with it is some of the latency issues with the buttons caused by the wire and the large buttons cause you to accidentally push 2 buttons at once…

now I got the MLG pad and the FG mod and havent had any issues at all…

My controller of preference is the PDP Versus Pad, but like I said, it keeps breaking. I’ve been through 3 already. Odds are they are going to keep breaking, so I’d rather find something else to use. I noticed the largest leap in my execution using that one, but it’s no use if it’s not up to par build quality wise.

If I had gotten the SFxT pad FIRST I probably would have been fine with it. The PDP Versus beats it in terms of comfort and the buttons are on microswitches – not to mention the actual “d-stick”. The Mad Catz pad felt like a step backwards in terms of everything lol. If I just moved from stock ps3/360 pad to it, it would be a different story.

I’ll get the fightpad module next paycheck. I’m kinda tapped out after this purchase lol. I’ll get a faceplate while I’m at it.

Also, found out one of my 360 stick modules is messed up. I get this weird pull on it when I press up or down that the other 360 stick doesn’t have. Might need to contact customer service to get it replaced since it seemed to have come like that.

I hope Mad Catz puts out a module that’s like the sticks on the silver 360 controller. They don’t have those thumb grips on them. I see they are steady putting out new modules every few months (just saw the “button” style d-pad on their site), so fingers crossed for this and a neo geo like module.

eh ? but the problem is that out of the box, the dpad is screwy. whether i would use it for FGs or not; why would it randomly go left when im pressing up or down? so youre saying i have to spend another $15 for an issue that shouldn’t be there if they had better quality control in the first place? way to let yourself be ripped off.
