The d-pads aren’t the greatest on the MLG. I have a similar issue when I’m playing SF4 or 3S, but I’ve already made up my mind to just invest in a Qanba stick for FGs (I own the TE-S, but recently used a Qanba at a tournament and was really impressed with the responsiveness). I don’t notice the short comings in other genres. I have yet to play Gears of War 3 – which makes use of the d-pad to change weapons, so I don’t know if the directional issue shows up there yet. I never had that problem on the asstastic stock 360 d-pad, so I’d be shocked if pressing left counted as up, too, and I switched to the wrong weapon in a match.
I’d have to agree, the silver Xbox pad had a boss d-pad (that I did use for FGs), but the damn thing broke on me lol. I’d take the “Plus” d-pad on the MLG if it was raised a bit more. It has a nice feel to it, but it’s so flat and untextured that I can’t really use it for intense stuff – and this includes platformers like Super Meat Boy. I’ve opted to stick with the PS3 style module for that stuff.
Of course, we’re just gonna get told to buy the Fightpad module lol, which may very well solve the issue, but it’s still another $15 bucks.
how is it a rip off getting a controller that has wayyyyy better response time/accuracy that a normal pad
ppl who use fighting sticks buy extra parts all the time to help get a higher performance out they gameplay all the time example ppl mod they buttons and gates…
if your a serious gamer then you will invent in a product and parts to get where you need to be thus why they call it the MLG pad… otherwise stick to using the original xbox controller…
its $15 thats hardly a rip off for the floating Dpad if you want better results when your playing a fighting game… I mean if you’re will to buy the MLG controller for $100 you might as well go all the way… it was worth it for me I see a huge difference
how exactly is a dpad that randomly goes left when you press down or up a “wayyyyy better response time/accuracy that a normal pad” ?
sure people buy extra parts for their sticks, but the point is, you don’t need to. out of the box, the stick is fully functional and is not plagued by inaccurate commands.
i am serious gamer that why i invested in the mlg pad and i expect TOP quality. not being ridiculed with problems such as the dpad. i bought a hori turbo ex2 gamepad before and for $20 i got what i paid for, ghosting issues, etc.in other words not perfect. But for the MLG with a $100 price tag, Im surprised i still got problems with it.
i use a stick for fighting games. why I need to spend additional $15 just to get the damn thing working for other genre games, when it should be working in the first place is just fucking retarded.
if you use a stick for fighting games then why are you even in here arguing about using the pad fpr fighting games in the first place?
as far as I know if your playing a FPS, the Dpad is basically use to select kill streaks as far as COD games goes… who uses Dpads for movement in FPS games??
also you got a 2 years warranty with this pad… for god sakes stop crying and use it if you having problems with it as you claim or sell it to someone… I could use a spare lol
you’re the one who is pushing me to use it for FGs. on my original post, im merely pointing out that i expected more for supposed premium controller and that this thing is definitely not for FGs. other than FGs i play alot of arcade titles that often uses the dpad. but especially in GOW3, during crunch time, you change gun, but the thing registers a different command, you suddenly find yourself with a different weapon, you’re dead.
right so what if i have warranty, you do know that this is an issue on all controllers? even if they replace it, ill get the same problem anyway.
if anyone is crying, its you, since you cant seem to get over that not all people like the controller.
I’m with JayAlanCarter…ceemurda, shut up kid. The controller costs $100 dollars. For that price the controller should have 0 problems and definitely not require you to purchase a $15 dollar d-pad just so the thing is usable.
@Jay, I’m like you. Not a big fighting game player, play FPS and like playing old beatemups on XBLA. I have 3 suggestions.
Cheapest option would be to bu the SF pad, or PDP pad. Hear they’re just ok though.
Buy the Mayflash universal adapter. This will allow you to use a ps3 controller on 360 and vice versa. If you like the ps3 d-pad for 2d games then go that route. I have it and it works great with no lag. Only $15 on ebay.
Have one of the forum member mod you a sega saturn to 360/ps3 adapter. This is the best option but it will cost you around $100 to $120. Plus you have to purchase a used saturn controller on ebay for an extra $15.
If you want a controller specifically for FPS, I hear scuff controllers are good, but their prices are nuts. They charge way to much for simple upgrades. They around $135. Honestly, I would return the MLG controller and just stick with the regular wired 360 controller ($30 on amazon). Not worth the $100 with all the problems people have had with it. (look at MLG forum thread).
if you used the SF4 fightpad its much like that one which was the best pad madcatz ever made… the FG module for the madcatz mlg pad makes a huge difference if your play fighting games
hey MarkMan, i know you are very busy and all but i sent you a PM a few weeks ago asking for help with my MLG controller. My controller doesn’t work right anymore and i already opened a support ticket long ago and called multiple times with no response. Is there anyone i can Email directly to get a faster response? thanks.
Picked up this pad with the floating pad accessory. My final verdict after using it for about a month and playing in about 8 tournaments with it. Don’t use this pad if you want precision. The diagonals are still bad, even with the floating d-pad. If you don’t put enough muscle behind it, it skips diagonals completely, and the problem with putting a lot of pressure on this kind of floating d-pad, is that this sometimes causes unwanted inputs, and thus messes you up, especially in a game like Marvel. Playing pad exclusively, I had high hopes for this, but my final verdict is not FGC friendly. This control is great for shooters, racers, sports games, just not fighting games, in my opinion.
What is so hard about just taking the design off the Saturn’s dpad and putting it on EVERYTHING? I mean it. That system came out in the 90’s and it is hands down the best dpad ever made. Just put it on everything.
Just got my MLG Controller today from the Black Friday sales. Also got both the Fightpad D-pad and the 4-button D-pad ProModules.
Had a quick little run on MAME with some fighters here at the office; will play with it some more when I get home.
My initial thoughts:
feels very solid
I do find the D-pad modules a little hard to pop in/out; the Analog modules at least have little tabs/notches for grip when twisting
both stock D-pads (the Xbox-style and PS3-style ones) feel really cruddy. I’m glad I got the other two.
Fightpad module is definitely not bad at all. My experience with the regular SF4 or SFxT Fightpads is minimal at best, but this one’s not too bad. In terms of recent 3rd-party controllers, I do feel that I prefer the D-pad from Hori’s Fighting Commander 3 (both regular and Pro versions) more.
The 4-button D-pad is interesting, and chances are, I’ll probably leave that in most of the time since the only times these days that I play using a controller is 1st/3rd person shooters (Resident Evil, Gears of War, etc).
I’m glad that the “MLG Pro Circuit” emblem in the middle of the faceplate is just a sticker. I’m not really a fan of “branded” controllers, and I’m content that I’ll be able to just peel that off. EDIT: So I peeled off the sticker on both of the main faceplates, and there’s this odd little white triangle in the plastic on both… What is that?..
I’m having the hardest time removing one of the 35g weights inside the compartment; I actually like the weight of the controller with neither of the two extra weights, but I like the shape of the rounded weight-container rather than the flat replacement cover…
What I would’ve liked to see as features:
for the face buttons as a removable module as well
for ANY module can work in ANY slot: that way, I could have:
==== Xbox style config (from left to right: L-analog, D-pad, R-analog, buttons)
==== PS3 style config (D-pad, L-analog, R-analog, buttons)
==== Wii-U Pro Controller style config (L-analog, D-pad, buttons, R-analog)
==== something totally wacked (L-analog, R-analog, buttons, D-pad)
==== or even have 3 D-pads in there at once (I know there’s no real reason for this, but still…)
I was looking forward to buying this, but since it didn’t have rumble support, I don’t want it. It was almost perfect
But just in case it did have rumble, I would have liked to be able to remove the face buttons as well (all 4 to come out as one circular slot) just in case a button gets broken then I could easily try to repair it. They also should have stuck with mini-usb for controller connection because pin connections are just asking for trouble eventually. Also, I wouldn’t have minded it having 6 shoulder buttons (4 shoulder buttons and 2 triggers) just in case ppl don’t like playing with triggers (in which I don’t). A d-input/x-input switch wouldn’t have been a bad idea either. Rumble should have been controller by a switch as well for those who don’t like rumble.The weight system is unnessessary.
It does have rumble. At least, the 360 version does.
You can even see the rumble motors attached in the photos that Toodles posted of the PCB previously.
Hello guyz! I need your advice I would like to grab an MLG Pro Circuit Controller but I am unsure that any versions are compatible with PC? Furthermore is there any pcb to make the x360 edition dual modeable?
The Xbox360 version works fine on PC. I’m pretty sure the PS3 version does as well.
I know Gummo has tried to dual-mod this controller, but was unsuccessful due to the odd way the signals are done when the D-pad module is in. Not to say it still can’t be done, most likely with a Cerberus, but usually if Gummo had his crack at it and decided it wasn’t doable, then it’s probably not worth the effort nor within the skillset of 95%+ of the rest of the gaming population to attempt to get it working.
Hi. I have the ps3 version of this controller, and it just broke. The rubber thingy under the buttons (sry, dont know what its called), that connects the presses to the board, needs to be replaced. Is there any place were i could get a spare part?
I tried taking one from old dualshock 1 and cut it to the same shape, but it wont fit properly.
