MK9 sells 900k copies in first month. Higher debut than SF4 and MvC3

Now I’d be a fan of any crossover but to me I’d love to see namco allow the mk to team up with soulcalibur. Those characters make sense and would have awesome fatalities and fit more in line with the theme of the mk universe than street fighter. I also don’t think the street fighter characters could be able to hang with the mk’s more powerful deadly characters.

Of course.

I’m sure they made the deal with Namco before MK9 had a chance to show itself as a legit game and garner all its hype, perhaps even before it was announced.

Now they’re locked into making this game and being only buddy-buddy with the one company, perhaps until Namco gets around to making TKxSF.

But unless MK comes out with another game which tanks, it’s the next thing they’ll do.

The big issue being the wait. I’m thinking 2014.

please god no sf vs mk

yeah on second thought maybe it would be a bad idea to let ono near mk

not exactly the reason i was thinking but sure ok

SF vs MK would never happen because Capcom would never let SF near anything with Fatalities. Next.

The SF characters can have heroic brutalities

Okay. It still is not that good though just like SSF4 and MVC3, so I don’t see why its a big deal that a mediocre game beat 2 other mediocre games in sales.

Also SF v MK would be the most gimmicky shit ever. xD

Of course, but I’d still play it. If it had Ultras, Combo Breakers, Input Shortcuts, and the worst netcode ever. I would still play it. And everyone else here would too.

Even if what you said is true (which I sincerely doubt), for many people SFIV was a gateway into the world of FGs.

I love how Keits refuses to post about this on the front page, despite it being real NPD numbers.

HAHAHAHA

There were zero sales in April, which is the month it sold 900K. All of the actual sales were in MAY, dork!

Fact it, SF4 sold 840k in 12 days. MK sold over a million in 12 days (the special editions are separate SKUs, which is why the NPD only lists 900k sold).

FACT.

The numbers from the NPD are from APRIL. Learn to read, then look it up, fool.
What the fuck is your stupid as rambling on about?

The month it had zero sales it sold 900,000? Do you bother to proof read? Did it sell zero or 900,000 which is it?

So the game released on April 16 didn’t sell a copy till may? Are you stupid?
Anything you are saying has nothing to do with my point. I’m not talking anything about April or May sales. My point is that the sales numbers don’t mean anything because they were, thru Amazon, dumping copies into the market @ $39.99 during week 2, and at the time of my posting was still dumping copies into the market @ $49.99 on Amazon. To compare first month sales between two products selling @ different price points is just propaganda. It might hurt a little, but try to think before shooting off with your internet bully bullshit.

at least ono games have netplay that functionally works on day 1 (cough)

sounds lame.

just imagine combining this…

with SF4, and the only time you’ll be pressing a button besides jab in SFvMK is to do a fatality (or “heroic brutality”). I’ll definitely pass on that

Will you stop saying that? There’s not single game in the world that you can’t find on Amazon within the first week of release for $15-20 off, so what the fuck are you even talking about? This is not an isolated incident with Mortal Kombat, all games see this, if you’re actually paying attention.

And I’m pretty sure It won’t sell more than SSF4 and MvC3 worldwide.

I’ll be sure to stop playing anything else due to this news.

Sure and this games were played by the same 500 guys. The SF IV hate is strong in you capcom haters

And they’re still only played by those 500 guys unless you’re playing a Capcom game. I don’t hate Capcom or SF4, but it’s silly to think anybody but Capcom is getting any benefit from SF4’s success. Next, you’re going to tell me that Wal*Mart helps small businesses.

Just wanted to jump on the “SF4 did nothing for the genre” bandwagon.

SF3:TS came out on 1999. SF4 came out in 2008. Let’s take a look at the fighters released in between.

1999 - 18 games
2000 - 13 games
2001 - 9 games
2002 - 10 games
2003 - 6 games
2004 - 9 games
2005 - 11 games
2006 - 10 games
2007 - 13 games
2008 - 15 games, including SF4!

Now let’s look at the few years after SF4. Maybe the numbers have changed due to all the developers going crazy about this new fighting game jumpstarting phenomenon!

2009 - 11 games…
2010 - 9 games…
2011 - 10 games…

Wow. So… it didn’t really open many doors, now, did it? Considering of course that:

 • One of the games in 2009 was SF4 for consoles.
 • SSFIV takes up a slot in 2010 and 2 in 2011 (AE and 3D).

So it may be a good game, but a door opener? Nope.

What, is liking a specific fighting game like being in a certain gang these days?
Bloods(Capcom) vs the Crypts(Mortal Kombat).

I’m gonna watch the news one day and find out someone killed someone because they brought over a different fighting game that they usually play.
Absolutely ridiculous.
