I told you guys it will be the biggest fighting game this generation but that thread got closed. Frankly I thought it deserved more sales.
By your logic we should quit fighting games and switch to COD black ops cuz best sales= best game right?
Go easy on him.
Anyway, congrats to NRS. People really shouldn’t be surprised by this.
As a guy who isn’t the biggest Mortal Kombat fan, I’m ecstatic that it debuted higher than Marvel 3. Marvel 3 is the biggest pile of garbage to be called a “fighting game” in the last few years. Marvel 3 shouldn’t even be called a fighting game because its an insult to fighting games in general.
Not surprised that it outsold Marvel. That was kind of a given. Kinda-sorta surprised that it outperformed SF4’s opening month though. Good show.
Sells dont always mean a good thing, though MK9 is a good game. Though their netcode sucks ass to SSF4 and MVC3
I only care about sales when it’s low enough to prevent a sequel to a game I like.
The topic we should be discussing though is if this is going to be enough to make other fighting game developers take notice. More single player focused fighting games in the future?
word to that
well, im pretty sure that SC5 would go the same route, the others that are comming, not sure about them though
sc5 will probably outsell mk9 overall
HAHAHAHA.
SF4 outsold SC4, dude. MK outselling SF4.
Do the math.
And MK sold over one million, not just 900K. The MK special editions had a different SKU, while SF4 sold 840K with the special editions. Straight from Ed Boon.
Somehow, I doubt SC5 will outsell MK9, it doesn’t have the hardcore fanbase. Is anybody really starving and requesting a new Soul Calibur? I liked it on the Dreamcast and all, but did not pick up SCIV.
MK vs. DC actually sold very close to SF4’s numbers. Not sure why this is surprising. MK has done very well for itself since Deadly Alliance.
Well, this should come as no surprise. MK9 is more interesting to casuals than SF4, with its somewhat simpler gameplay, over-the-top gore, and bigger emphasis on single-player. If you don’t know anything about all the strategy that goes into high-level SF, then you’d probably be more interested in the game where you get to rip peoples’ spines out than a visually tame, “cartoony” series.
In the bigger picture though, this is great for the fighting game community, as it just encourages more developers to make more fighting games.
It’s good to see sales being directly proportional to quality, for once.
SF4 and MvC3 aren’t as bad as some people make them out to be, but MK has really captured me.
Bring on more content relating to this franchise for me to purchase.
Edit: Also hoping we can have a return to the 90s, and see a bunch of western companies making new 2D fighting IPs.
The Soul series has always had an incredibly well fleshed out single player part (never played III though so I’m not sure if it is true there).
Why do people talk about how fast a game is selling though, very few games have the same sell cycle. Valve and Nintendo, for example, have very medium pace but long lasting cycles, while companies like Bioware aim for big first month sales.
Maybe the next attempt at a One Must Fall squeal will be an RTS.
SCIV sold REALLY well. Requests weren’t needed, the franchise moved on its own.
That’ll be the day. I would like to see it, but the fighting games seeing success now are ones with an established name to bank on.
A developer would need to create a really compelling game in order to get nearly the same amount of attention. Basically, something genre revolutionary. The fighting game bubble will burst before that happens.
The logic is flawless.
Obviously when something is more popular, it’s a better game by default, right?
I’m leaning towards it was first Soul Calibur on next gen/current gen systems. I don’t see the scene for it. I’m sure it has it’s fans, I just don’t think it is that many to carry it forward. Of course I could be wrong. It can be profitable, but I think sales would be like Blazblue not like SF,MK,MVC.
Where the hell is a new VF game?
