Oh yeah, I wouldn’t mind that
It happened before when MK1 was released. There was a ton of FGs that were really gory after MK success.

maybe naughty dog will bring back WAY OF THE WARRIOR now right?
With the awesome games they have been putting out lately, I would love them to bring that game back
SF4 had huge sales and brought a lot of people back into fighting games. And I’m sure most of the games in the mid/late 2000’s before SF4 were complete ass that no one played and/or sold like stinking shit. You don’t have to like SF4, just don’t try to make some bullshit story about how it didn’t affect the genre.
I’ll give you a few examples: Warner Brothers went out of it’s way to buy Midway for the rights of Mortal Kombat. Capcom is now going all over the place with the now released MvC3, SFXTekken, and 3rd strike on contemporary platforms(This could hopefully lead to other titles like Alpha 2/Alpha 3, darkstalkers, hell even CvS2 on XBLA/PSN with ggpo). And the cannon brothers have recently said there are unannounced fighting games licensing GGPO left, right, and center.
Do you really think all these moves would’ve happened if SF4 never came out?
I for one am happy a lot of companies are getting in the mix, more flavors out there for us players.
when you put it like that, yeah maybe naughty dog should make a fighting game. i’d love to see it.
Blazblue didn’t happen because of SFIV. GG is fairly successful in Japan and I’m sure they just wanted to add a second game to target a wider base. I’m fairly if not totally certain it was in production before SFIV.
Well then that’s a my bad. I had Namco in there as an example too, but then I remembered Tekken was doing just fine.
I still think my point stands firm.
Yeah it does, I just didn’t want that little bit to allow someone else to point it out as a way to completely discredit you.
Wait so you think just because their are more or less the same number of fighting games being produced/released now as before means that SF4 did nothing for the genre? How is that even close to logical. For starters, how many full price 2D fighters were released in the US and Europe between now and then? Only 3D fighters like Tekken, Soul Calibur, Dead or Alive, Mortal Kombat and Virtua Fighter were getting that kind of attention. Nobody gave a rats ass about 2D fighters except us. SF4 gave the genre some light and helped reintroduce a whole new generation to the beautiful sub genre that is the 2D fighter. That alone opened up a lot of doors for big budget 2D fighters like Blazblue and KoF. Exactly how much SF4 actually helped those games performance is up for debate but I can assure you from experience that SF4 was a gateway for ALOT of people to get into (now more media friendly) genre.
Also, I’m not even sure your release list is anything close to accurate but even if it was, you’d still have to analyze and compare budgets, sales data and marketing data pre and post SF4 and marketing data accordingly to see any real impact. This of course has to be done by region. Fighters have consistently flourished in Asia so forget them. Another thing, I find myself grateful that I can finally purchase at my leisure, a high quality domestically produced arcade stick. I honestly don’t think that would have happened without SF4 giving Madcatz the confidence to get into the arcade stick market. Pretty sure Blazblue and KoF12 wasn’t going to do it.
Finally, many companies like Hori, Madcatz, etc or events like Evo, SBO and the tourney scene in general is getting MUCH bigger. This means:
Finally to get some what back on topic, MK is riding the resurgence wave too and enjoying a successful 2D reboot (Ed Boon attributed the inspiration to SF4) and a seat at Evo (primarily Capcom venue). Take from that what you will.
I’m not surprised. Mortal Kombat had A LOT of marketing. Billboards, commercials, and sponsorship at fighting events at the very least. There were at least two events I watched where they announcer plugged in “Mortal Kombat, fatality lives! Only on Xbox360 and Playstation 3!”
We still have a lot of quality games.
I disagree entirely. Cheesy? Yes. Lacking in the VA department? A little, but it’s certainly a lot better than SFIV’s English voice tracks. Still worth playing through? Absolutely.
I don’t understand why people were expecting some epic work of storytelling masterpiece. MK9’s story mode accomplished everything it needed to. It was entertaining, silly in a very fun way, and all around enjoyable to play through for anybody who doesn’t expect a fucking Final Fantasy game out of their FG storylines. Not to mention it singlehandedly did away with a number of the series’ worst story-related decisions.
So everyone you know can be generalized to everyone in the MK and SF communities? Give me a break. We see plenty of game overlap at high levels.
There’s way too much bad generalizing going on in this thread.
Way to make yourself look like an idiot.

Heh, don’t think he will have any more questions.
I was gonna make the joke saying “don’t you mean the krips”, but then I noticed you wrote “crypts” and now I feel a litte…uneasy… like, come on man o_O
Well, the MK-gang would be called “The Krypts”.
…but its “The Crips” not “The Crypts” to begin with. Come on, guys. Really?
lol @ “Crypts”
