haha carlos, have you seen my gief get up from 2006?
One. You can get Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger on the Wii VC. Or the PSX classics on PSN. Problem solved for about 90 bucks less.
Two. Bayonetta. Which you can find for less than 20 bucks these days and is still one of the funnest games I’ve played in the last three years.
And three. Hop on PSN (or XBL if you also have a 360) and just start downloading demos. I have to RESTRAIN myself from buying most of the shit I download, there’s so much tasty stuff out there.
I really can’t understand this opinion unless the last time you tried them was 2005 or something… My xbox 1 emulates everything up to psx/n64 full speed. All the pre 3D consoles are butter, 60 fps, no glitches, no slowdown. Unless you’re a super nerd (no offense) who is going to nitpick over very small details most people don’t notice like sound timers, transparency in certain games not looking identical to real hardware, or other things only a emu developer would likely notice, it’s great. Also, before I set this up, I tried emulation on Dreamcast, and under Ubuntu on my PS3 when I had it. Supercomputer my ass, cell broadband processor my ass, Ubuntu couldn’t even run SNES9x fullspeed on the PS3 (likely because of the hypervisor + no hardware graphics acceleration support). So, in comparison yeah it’s not a real SNES, and the Xbox controller sucks, but it runs all the RPGs I want to play 60fps with no errors I’ve noticed. And, it has a slick GUI, video previews, boxart, etc. What the hell is not to like?
I have emulators on my psp too and while cool they still don’t run 16 bit games full speed.
THIS. The industry is stagnant and lacks innovation and imagination. When they start making games like Chrono Trigger, Yoshi’s Island, etc again and REALLY coming up with some unique ideas I’ll be happy again.
That doesn’t mean I dislike all modern games or that this is universal. I want to play Portal 2, Batman, Ace Combat, there are still some great games being made. The problem is that for every good game there are 20 shitty FPS games where you’re either a machismo commando or a secret agent set in a “gritty” (dark and generic) postapocolyptic future, with 90% of the budget spent on graphics and celebrity voice actors, and the other 10% spent on PR, with no budget spent on fun or good gameplay and level design. Blow it out your ass.
I’m sure current gen games are good, i just prevent myself from buying them so that i can do anything else in life besides fighting games. i am definitely a purist when it comes to gameplay though- graphics and stuff are nice to look at but aside from an actual innovative game coming out once in a blue moon, every new generation is only able to improve on bells and whistles since every awesome game idea has been done before. i don’t care about how shiny my turds are. nothing will compare to mario’s first jaunt into the 3D realm, alucard traversing the inverted castle, Wily eating shit from 4 shots of bubble lead, getting 30 rest and stomping 2 player Contra, and so on.
Whaaaat?! No, lol. I’m not brave enough to represent Mother Russia. Weren’t you cold?!
You still have Myspace?
i can’t delete it because it was set up under an email address that no longer exists. but at least i can look back on shit like this because of it
Myspace was good for all sorts of hit and run slizz.
Who all is down for tacos tomorrow? I am going to try to overdose on marinated pork.
Good shit, Jerry!
I HAVE TO WORK TOMORROW :(((((((((((((((
I was going to type up a long post about how newer games are generally better than older games, but decided I didn’t care enough to disagree with like the entire thread.
Anyways, I’m going to NorCal tomorrow. I’ll be in the bay area working on Wednesday and Thursday, then have the weekend to spend there. So I’m going to NCI, which should be pretty awesome.
Some of these modern games are too damn short. I started playing Arkham City on Saturday around 3 in the afternoon. I only played it for like 2 hours on Saturday and by Sunday at about 5 PM I was watching the end credits. I probably only put in like 12-14 hours tops. Hardly worth $60 I’m glad I didn’t buy it.
god damn. I wish I could show off my Ivan Drago costume 3 years ago.
I started on hard so i guess i’m dying more often but it feels like it will be longer than that. The story is one thing, but there’s a ton of side stuff to do. I dunno if any of that is very good yet though. I feel like 10-15 hours is a good length for a modern action game that isn’t a gigantic RPG or open world game.
I rarely ever pay more than $40 for new release games either. I can’t recall paying full $60 without some kind of discount or store credit involved for some time.
For anyone interested in thetournament I mentioned a little while back, the venue wants to do a quick head count on who’s showing up. You canquick register here and send it to them through e-mail at events@fiveflagscenter.com
And oh yeah, Secret of Mana is still that good.
Not that it was a bad game or anything but, it’s just more of the same. I felt like they didn’t implement enough new stuff. Beat up generic goons, boss battle rinse repeat. I didn’t do any of the side missions maybe there is more variety in those. I don’t mid paying $60 for a game if I know I am going to get my $ worth. Most of these new games tho you beat them in about 10-15 hours, never play them again and get ripped off by Gamestop when you try to recoup your losses.
old games were short too, we just sucked at them too much to beat them quickly.
also, 4:30 today
just broke 4000 pp in xbl ae get at me!! organous still manages to have more tho wtf is up with that
too bad ggpo no longer supports 3s.
