Not only are Sven’s animations ugly, there’s also nothing interesting about him as a character. I mean just look at how BORING his design is.
I like him over everyone except Smile.
really? I just can’t see anything about his design that stands out to me. Just so normal looking and not in a memorable kind of way either.
And his attacks are animated kinda poorly. No good concept of movement for some of those kicks.

I just don’t get the logic behind it. Sven is not an interesting character. His design is instantly forgettable. He’s just ‘that dude’. I mean, if you look at Ryu or Kyo you can recognise them because of their costumes or the way they carry themselves, but Sven doesn’t even have that going for him.
You’re saying that boring characters are not the same stereotypes repeated over and over? Uh…Sven’s just some brown hair kid in a japanese school uniform. He doesn’t even have a gimmick like Shiki Tohno’s eyes of mystic death perception in order to make him stand out. Tell me that’s not repetition?

It’s true though. If Ryu took off his karatae gi and red headband/gloves and put something else on, nobody would know it was him.
Ryu’s design is pretty boring, but at the same time it’s got a certain style to it. Sven just doesn’t have that…anything. No recognisable points of interest whatsoever.
Generally when you have an average joe sort of character, you also include a few points of style to allow them to be picked out. They’re often accompanied by something or someone else that gives them some kind of appeal, whether it be a familliar or pet of some sort, a certain sense of clothing style, a unique weapon or some kind of easily identifiable ability or even an injury (as we see with Otto and Yuri in this game and their eye patches).
Sven is just an example of bad character design, period. If they can somehow redeem that with his backstory and personality, then I’d be mighty impressed because right now he’s about as interesting as that piece of wood laying on the ground. And no, not even a splash of paint on it or anything.
Edit: Actually, after having a closer look at the artwork, I guess he’s not as bad as I originally thought. Still pretty darn boring. Certainly not what I’d expect to be a fitting design for a character in a fighting game.

the best part really is that not only can he do air normals out of a dash but he can double jump them, and it combos and you can continue a combo out of it, and it looks like if you do dash b, double jump c midscreen the c might cross up??

This game looks good till the character select screen, the animation is weird and the characters look so lifeless when fighting, altough I liked Smile and the soundtrack is very good and catchy, sometimes I play it only for the background music, I will not talk about balance between characters :wtf:
so I didn’t test everyone cause I don’t care that much, but Smile can do this too, so it looks like its a change fore the whole patch. Smile dash A is awesome poke, and you are quick you can anti-air grab off it!

On what basis? Play style?
I think my favourite character is still Folo in terms of design and playstyle (even if it is a trap) and after that I’d say Smile, Yuri or ninja girl (whatshername). But yeah, everyone else not so much. Virginia just seems really ugly to me. It’s probably the colours.
I still can’t see anything really cool about Sven yet. But I’m probably missing something. Does anyone have translations for the character’s stories? I guess I’m also curious to see WHY folo cross-dresses and if it’s a fruedian excuse like Bridget.
