In RotF (such a great acronym), the way Prime went berzerk in the forest fight made sense because he caught the Decepticons off-guard for only a moment, then he got himself killed for his recklessness. I hated in DotM that Optimus just became invincible killing machine based on an act of desperation in the last movie.
But yeah of course the whole trilogy is shit, especially the first, and the third less so.
That is still the best moment over all 3 movies. DOTM, Prime was a Cybertronian version of Kratos. However, if you think about the 86 movie, Prime basically did the same thing (roll in, kill a wave of Cons, and then face the bad guy). The main difference was “The Touch”. That song alone make anything go from ridiculous to EPICTICIOUS!
This is because sequels aren’t planned, they are greenlit based on profit margin. The movies are basically episodic. Realistically, DOTM felt more like a sequel than ROTF.
That doesn’t explain why iconic and pretty influential decepticon characters from the TF universe are thrown into the wood chipper with hardly any screen time.
I heard Soundwave and Shockwave in particular went out pretty badly in the last movie (which is another reason among along list of reasons why I don’t plan on seeing that movie). I also heard Megatron was reduced to “bitch status”. Whatever that means. I think it would break my heart if I saw that.
Come to think of it, he was pretty much a bitch to that contrived “Fallen” thing in the second movie. OG Megatron would never turn bitch to anyone like that and if he did, then he would scheme to stab them in the back and take their power.
Eh, whatever… these movies are geared towards 10 year olds anyway. :bluu:
I still thought overall DOTM was a movie in the right direction in terms of the robot involvement in the plot. Megatron just didn’t play a big role in the plot, outside of being the one to “scheme it”. I thought that the real villain in this movie was played very well.
Yeah, I didn’t really understand that relationship between Megatron and The Fallen. That did kind of throw me for a loop. I just hope the next villain is a boss, both in the G1 lore and in the movie.
I appreciated his enthusiasm, but it was a little excessive.
Wow…just wow… I’d infract you for such a comment if i could. Ummm you could say a lot of things “resemble” that , but it wouldn’t make the comparison any less childish.
So my thing is with this move to an adult “Sam” (which supposedly in his early adulthood in DOTM) is needed for what reason. I really think that should have just been a new character. Unless they are gonna go with the IDW route with Witwicky.
I think nostalgia plays a part for sure but I think the bay films just completely miss the entire premise behind the cartoons and original intent. Now granted it was all a ploy to sell toys but in the process they did craft a compelling mythology that was simple and accessible. The bay films took very simple concepts and royally fucked them up with terrible redesigns and a story which was flat with no personality. At least the original cartoons had characters and some sense of narrative and development, especially the animated movie…the bay films just took all the best qualities of the animated series and renewed them in the worst way possible. Shitty human sub-plots no one wants to see, confusing action sequences and a terrible origin story.
This could have been a chance at a serious reboot and given the series a mature and sophisticated representation, a opportunity to evolve the concepts and ideas into a bold new direction. Instead we get a product which is 10 times less thought provoking then the worst transformers episode.
Clearly you have no appreciation for Transformers if you can make such an absurd statement. 80’s TFs, AKA: Generation 1, was filled to the brim was awesomeness much of which still stands the test of time.
Even the original cartoon kinda has that “timeless” vibe to it, like the original Star Trek for example. In that while clearly being dated and coming off silly at times, its memorable cast, excellent voice actors, style, and charm still hold up well. This was a cartoon made by marvel comics writers afterall, so it was a step above your usual toy tie-in show.
Theres a difference between nostalgia and genuine appreciation. Nostalgia is fleeting and lasts all of 5 minutes. The resurgence of G1 mania has been going strong for quite a while at this point.
Its not just nostalgia, G1 has genuine appeal that stands the test of time.
Thats the nostalgia talking. Look, I can appreciate the 80’s TF as much as the next person but the shit is still silly and dumb as well. And the 80’s movie, c’mon son, that movie wasn’t that good and was a mess.
Beast Wars, Transformers Prime, and the IDW Transformers comics is the reason why the Transformers property is taken the seriously.
Wow you lost ALL credibility talking about the original movie like that. Say what you will about the Tv show, despite its great cast and charm it definitely had its problems however, the original movie greatly improved upon every area it was weak in. Still amazing to this day.
For you? G1 is fleeting nostalgia and little else.
For other fans, there is genuine appreciation there.
I lost all credibility? Dude, the only things the movie had going for it was 1. Optimus Prime beasting on the people in the beginning, 2. Galvatron making his debut and killing Starscream, and 3. Unicron. Everything else about that movie wasn’t that good.
Again, the IDW Transformers is the only reason I give a shit about the G1 series.
