Purchasing a $40 card seems like smart business to keep people coming back, but I am with the above poster in that I dunno if people will really shell that out. I’m not broke by any means I just would never consider investing that much money into a game card. I typicaly can spend hours upon hours at an arcade on ~5 bucks. Besides that, I dunno what you are going to charge for 3s when you get it, but I cant really justify paying over .25 for 3s since it has been out for so long.
I understand that offering the games at 50% off is nice and all, but I think the majority of us wont make it to the Metreon around those hours with school and work and all. I wouldnt be able to get there till ~5pm on the weekdays myself.
Heres my solution, and I think this would work very well for both parties:
I think you should make a special promotional card for “competitive gamers” or something, where if we ask about it, you offer us a card where all fighting games are .25 a pop. Or 25pts or however you do it. Maybe promote the cards at tournaments but thats it, dont give it a lot of publicity outside of SRK and word of mouth. Maybe have a $10-$15 minimum purchase (that seems fair for anyone).
this way, you can still sell the $40 cards or whatever else and charge .75 per game to most people, but those of us that have offered our opinion and support to your efforts here get a break on the fighting games.
I think this would be good for you becuase you wouldnt be losing any money on casual players strolling through and you would aslo secure a base of players who would keep the arcade active week after week.
I really think this is the best option if you’re serious about kicking things into gear.
I woudn’t pay more than a quarter for any game with the exception of a brand new game that isn’t available on console. Cha-Ching…
You gotta get that shit down to .25 without any commitment to buy 40 bucks worth of games. New games like Soul Calibur 3 and Tekken DR could be .50, .25 to continue but other than that .25 or no deal
Ok I apologize for this but I jumped the gun a little bit when announcing the lower prices. Sadly fighters aren’t at 50% before 5pm Mon-Fri. They are at 33% which makes them $0.50/game (w/o bonus) for those that are 75pts/game. While still not the best it is a VAST improvement from where they used to be.
Everyone has to keep in mind that all of this is still a **work in progress **and NOTHING is set in stone. We’re always looking for ways to improve (w/in our means).
3zX I am very aware of how the casual gamer reacts to pricing and such. I’m one myself. That is why I, along with other members of the management team had fought for at least some change in the prices. Work in progress my friend.
Haunts your competitive gamer idea is a point well taken and though I may not be able to swing that idea through with much success at this point in time; what I can look into is seeing what we can do in terms of instant VIP cards for some of you which gives a discount off the regular price.

nathan that would be the coolest thing next to the VF character card Idea. For you guys don’t know sega was the first to offer customizable characters for the arcade.
From what I understand, when you say games will be on freeplay are you just talking about the tournament games? Because I see that some people are misunderstanding it to be that the entire venue is on free play which I’m highly doubting because the tournament is gonna run for hella hours while charging 5 dollars only. It’d be cool if it was but I just wanted to clear this up.
And if ONLY the tournament games are on free play then 5 Reg fee is kinda whack, I think. It would be better to have it at 50 cents (25 per person playing, which is normal). Cause if you go 2 and out. You basically just paid 10 dollars to play 2 games. Only people that wouldn’t mind the 5 dollar reg fee are the people that are pretty sure of winning then they would actually be saving money. But who cares, they’re getting money from the pot anyways. A couple bucks it’s gonna hurt. That’s what I think would be fair. Again, this is only if you meant that the tournament games, and only the tournament games are on free and not the entire venue.
Also, people are saying the layouts of the buttons/sticks are not normal. Has this been fixed? Or will it be in time for the tournament?

My apologies for the confusion but ONLY the tournament games will be on free play. Those games will also be on free play at least 30mins prior to the start of each tourney. Remember it is 2/3 double elimination format, so worst case scenario you play in only one tournament. You are GUARANTEED 4 games.
-control layouts we are changing. we still have a little over 3wks so I’m hoping in that time it’ll be taken care of. Trust me we’re working on it.
-This was going to be something special for those that came out but I’ve been working on getting extra stuff for prizes and giveaways. So far Playstation is giving us some t-shirts to give away. We have (4) free pizza and soda coupons from Firewood Cafe as additional prizes. Working on other things like more free food, discounts, movie passes and (VIP) game cards. Chances are (and what I’m working on) if you participate, you WON’T be walking away empty handed.
LB: We unfortunately don’t have any Bemani games only two dance pads (DDR Extreme and In the Groove 2). The only shumps that we have are in our retro games section. Be we do have a lot of first person shooters. i.e. Time Crisis 4, Lethal Enforcer 3, Ghost Squad, Vortek 3 (has 6 games like Beach Head, etc.), etc.
Also if you’re driving out to the city if you don’t mind walking a few blocks (it’s like 3 blocks) check out the first page of this thread or the P1 Metreon Tourney thread. There are some decently priced parking suggestions that have been posted there.

p1 arcade: thanks for the update… the tourney sounds like a really cool idea, especially with so many prices and stuff…
real good job trying to promote your arcade and get competitive people going… the location will probably be the biggest hindurance going forward, but after you get some word out, fix everything that’s needed, and have some steady comp, i’m sure p1 would be a good place to game…
now… where can i go for some drummania near redwood city… hmmm…
So pre-reg has started today. Anyone that wants to check out the arcade and sign up for the tourney can do so (also you can sign up and pay on the day of, which is actually encouraged).
We have recreated our fighting wall and essentially (w/ the exception of sf2: ww) all our fighters in the same area. Also in addtion to the prizes/giveaways we may some other pleasant surprises for better enjoyment at the event so stay tuned!
I have recently gotten my boss to start looking at prices for ggxx/ and t5: dr. So there’s hope for those games.
LB for bemani games you can hit up sfsu, mgl/svgl (i think) and possibly even malibu grand prix (not sure tho) if it’s still around.
