Well if theyre threatened by nincompoopery I doubt I want them at the lockin and if lockins dont revive they dont revive, endless cycle here caused by a fundamental perception difference.
And if their are certain individuals encouraging new people to come just to inflate pots and lose money matches or get converters jacked, you could make the argument Im doing the new people a favor.
I’ve always made an effort to help grow the scene, because, to me, more people involved just makes shit better for everybody. I guess some people would rather keep shit tiny.
And I came into the MD/VA scene losing money matches… My first C3, I lost a MM to Bmore. Who cares?
Im saying saving them from certain people in the scene who are friendly and bring them in to essentially hustle them in a myriad of ways, albeit tiny hustles.
god forbid people play games for fun, right? plus he has to post here so i know whats for dinner… BACON
and so have i? ive offered to teach, psssh like 5-6 people sfIV already, all of which none of you know. If a noob is willing to put forth the effort to try and join the scene, by all means go ahead. But dont come in here talking like “I want to game, come game with me” fuck that shit… come to a tourney, get to know people IRL, and if you show you want to learn, then people will teach and play and grow to like you.
If YOU want to waste your time on someone, go ahead… ill wait until they show me they really want to learn.
and about keeping things tiny… THATS funny. us three hang out because we dont need to game the whole time to hold a conversation with each other. and besides that, how many invites did i get to come play SFIV with you guys? … 0? yet im still pretty decent at the game for figuring EVERYTHING out myself. Good job on keeping the scene huge by inviting people who are already in it  lets worry about the new people instead
If people really want to play, they’ll come play. I’m pretty sure forum posts won’t scare them away, more than likely it’d be the fact that they can’t compete. I’m trying to get these 2 guys i met at Eb last week to come through to umbc so they can get better, but they’re afraid of losing more than anything.
Uh… I don’t even have a PS3/360, so I don’t know what invite you were looking for from me.
As far as sessions go, I went to one 2 weeks ago at MiyagiShin’s. He posted up here about it… so I got the same invite you did. I played at Robin’s last week. That’s it. Other than that, I go to UMBC… again… another open invitation that is always out there. To anybody.
As far as “wasting time” on new guys… I’m not saying we need to cater to their every desire. But we should keep from turning them off before they even get to their first event. That’s my point.
I invite everyone at my events so when you say you guys it makes me raise an eyebrow. I posted on MD/VA like 5 times about it each friday. guess what tomorrow is… Friday.:looney:
if they actually show up, i might have a heart attack… havoc, if you can get at least 5 people ive never seen before… FIVE THAT YOU PERSONALLY BRING/INVITE… i will buy you lunch (assuming im not dead from vegas) and never talk bad to newbs EVER AGAIN (assuming they dont say stupid things). Even if i cant make it to C3 because ive lost my life savings in vegas, ill take your word for it.
all im saying is i bet i can get more newbs to come than anyone else right now. BET IT
exactly this… they may fork over 20 bucks ONCE… but thats not going to keep the scene alive. What you need are tournaments that dont cost that much, most gamers are broke.
So, say you know 30 guys that wanna get into the scene… Good shit…
But, just look at this thread. New guy comes in, says some shit out of general ignorance to the scene, based on SRK posts, and you guys make a whole lot more inane posts. If this guy was even thinking about getting in on shit, he’s probably thinking less about it now.
So I don’t give a fuck if you have 30 other guys lined up to go to C3, David’s house, the library or wherever. I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about pointless, inane shit that is keeping even one person from joining in.
That’s not true. FPS, Smash, Madden, etc. tournaments are held all the time, all across the country that cost way more than the ~$30 a month people spend at C3. Please. People bitch so much about money. God damn. What the fuck do people do with their lives that don’t allow them to be able to afford paying fucking $10 to stay someplace all day long, and game as much as they want, ONCE A MONTH?
And fuck it, let’s cut the bullshit. N-Ken’s been making posts that have clearly been directed at Eric V. Say whatever you want to say about Eric V… But if you don’t like Eric V being in a position to call shots, you should look at the reasons why he’s able to do it now.
He decided to get the fuck up and do something. Sure, this is aided by the fact that he doesn’t have other obligations, but fuck, running a monthly tournament isn’t that hard, if you actually want to do it, instead of just bitch about the current situation. It is perfectly feasible to work a full time job, and still dedicate one day a month to making something happen.
Other people don’t want to do shit for this thankless scene. All people do is bitch and complain. No support; no real contributions… just bitching about how they’d do it. Seriously… shut the fuck up. When you don’t do shit with any regularity, and when you don’t support the people with good intentions that go way out of their way to do shit for ungrateful fucks, you’re left with what you’re left with.
There have been plenty of people that have tried to do shit for this scene, and they stop, because the scene is so fucking corrosive. I know Khang was going to try to do something if shit didn’t start to get moving soon, but he didn’t really want to get into it until he was sure he absolutely had to… because this scene is so fucking bitch.
I mean honestly I can’t comprehend why some of the people who have been in the scene for a long time didn’t show that friday for no good reason.
A good amount did yes. And a hella lot of new people too.
But I was baffled when I called a bunch of people from MC who play every friday: you know what they did they played there when its a 10 min drive to my house. I told them ample time ahead.
I told alot of people in VA too, and I know they don’t go to scenes as much but they drove 30 min more to play the same game with 2 other people.
If people want a way here they’ll get a way. I was major pissed that my friend, didn’t come down for SF4 friday when i offered money to come up and down on metro. then he comes to a random bday party and gets stuck cause he didn’t get a ride back.
I didn’t names and I don’t hold grudges. But I agree the scene is 100% bitch. people just have there own reasons and honestly I don’t get whats running through there mind. I remember when people used to jump 10 feet in the air when they heard something was going on. Its a chance to make friends, play games, good comp, and overall mad fun. What does anyone have to lose. If someone is holding event, there should be support so it can be done again.
So yeah I’m just saying its that are community is balls deep in lazyness
1- Not important enough to warrant taking $10/month out of your pocket
2- Important enough to bitch about it every chance you get
3- Not important enough to do anything to change what you’re bitching about.
I have to disagree on the playing all day thing. At almost every tourney I’ve been to, console or arcade, you can’t play unless you MM or known. “Noobs” don’t get a chance to play.
its $10 for the venue, add the tournament, food, travel, bud, and MM cost, its well beyond $50. Sorry but “just $10” is an underestimate.
Whose bitching about the scene? The only people you’re bitching about are the people who dont care for the scene. We go on SRK cause we need time to kill, not cause we need something from somebody else.
You’re clearly twisting my argument. When did I ever even make the statement that, “you need to consciously look for new people”? SkiSonic told me about this sub-forum but I didn’t even consider coming here until I realized that I was good enough to play against the SRK people. My argument was never that recruitment is important, more like you should keep your circle open to newcomers. Like I said, you’re missing the point.
all invalid points if you are referring to me… if not then i dont care
i said i knew 5… and apparently you do give a fuck because this is what the whole argument stemmed from… letting noobs come here and get into the scene, right? did i miss something? a lot of new people stay in this scene after being made fun of… because theres 1 bad apple doesnt mean we are ruining everyone.
i dont know, ask the broke ass people
Thankless scene? pretty sure we all were at sinsation and enjoyed it, and thanked eric v and crew… Pretty sure we appreciated all the C3’s weve been to, minus the smelly GG players… again, why do people take the internet so serious…every tournament we are going to ask about a lockin, marvel, and bacon… maybe people missed the joke train? so you are a little out of line there by indirectly(or diretctly) stating we are ungrateful fucks.
You cant always please everyone Hav, it would be a perfect world. If a person comes to this forum and gets upset over a couple inside jokes, he has personal problems that i probably dont even want to deal with in person.
k you know skisonic?? hell be the first to tell you im a dumbass… ask him to let you watch his TvC match, hell know what youre talking about.
you people need to get high or something and calm down…
Oh, I’m plenty calm. I just figured maybe some of you would appreciate my insight, being an outsider and all. It now makes sense to me why there’s not much of a scene around here. Once the SFIV hype dies down and I get eliminated from Round 3… I probably won’t be back until Tekken 6 comes out. And it has nothing to do with me being a scrub or a noob or anything like that. It’s because I’ve seen how many people here are, and this community doesn’t seem like it’s for me.
