He has received no damage buffs according to the Capcom changelog. Had they already removed his ability to cancel out of :d: + :h: during the build you played? I can’t think of a single assist that would last long enough for Haggar to OTG, put himself in hard knockdown, then go through a full wake-up animation in time to follow-up.
Also I don’t see how Rapid Fire Fist invincibility would help you get in since you already have to be point blank to even hit with it.
Think he meant more damage of the mashable hypers, which I hope he is actually getting and that it is not an idiot who gave the wrong information of an already existing application (Rapid Fire Fist). The only 3 possible assist which could last long enough would be Sentinal drones, tatsus and maybe hidden missiles (Arthur’s blue bottle might be a stretch). None of which that my team has. Rapid Fire Fist is not exactly point blank since it has a little range, but still pretty short and I agree that there is no way in hell you can get in as well with its 10 (or was it 15?) startup frames. We stll have no solid way of chasing teleporting, projectile spamming, advancing guarding turtles. Right now I just hope that we are still able to get all 3 hits of the lariat before cancelling into Rapid Fire Fist with the soft knockdown nerf. It would suck tremendously if they fall out halfway through.
Would Tatsu assist work outside of the corner with how far it carries? Even if we can find 1 or 2 assists that actually let us follow-up a command grab, 99% of Haggar teams will find the buff completely worthless since it’s not worth giving up oki for a few extra points of damage. I guess time in the lab will tell, but I look at Hulk and Thor that already had twice as many tools for getting in and they each got a huge list of buffs. Plus they have projectiles. Haggar needed buffs the most out of all the tank characters but go nothing but side-grades and nerfs.
I agree wholeheartedly, but time will tell. With every DLC there will be a patch of changes in the following 6-12 months, and possibly and extensive one for him. I just hope Capcom understands that this is a VS Marvel game. Everyone of the cast has one or more of these which Haggar lacks: projectile(s), a teleport/command dash, armored moves, a plain good mobility. Even some of the characters that has an abundance of any can still be low tier such as Arthur. Why? Arthur only has projectiles, slow and short range melee with no get out of corner and pressure. He was meant to be the absolute zoning character who instead gets destroyed whenever someone with a teleport or a someone who knows when to super jump and wave dash appears.
From my NYCC matches @ 31:50, 1:22:20, and 1:28:07 in part 2. After landing a lvl 3 rapid Fire Fist a lot of the punches do two hits instead of one due to me mashing during the punches. Some hits probably didn’t double because I wasn’t able keep up with the mashing.
the larriet nerf only works with the assist i think. the build i played was the nycc build…im going to hold hope on this one becuase the way the otg to pipe worked the same way when i tried it at fight club and then months later when i tried it at nycc i think their saying that in current marvel you can cancel c.h into anything like hoodlum launcher and violent axe…but in this one you can’t cancel into everything…im hoping its the same becuase why would you even bother adding the otg if you can’t do anything with it
I hope you are wrong about one thing. Haggar in game Lariat was not changed at all. Only his assist was nerfed. Man this will be the straw that will let me decide wither to keep or kick him out of my team. No red heath damage should be taken from this stupid move.
I’m like, 90% sure the on-point version of Lariat is unchanged. Because that would be really dumb if it didn’t hard knockdown, they would recover before Haggar does.
Yep I use him at point and rarely tag him out and only use his assist to extend combos. I also think that he is still usable as an assist to cover you because his invincibility was only delayed for a frame or two which is only fare guys lets face it he was sooo cheep before. I am actually very hyped for UMVC3 Haggar.
Haggar is just an assist character still. He still can’t do anything against anyone. You can pretty much just insert a name of one of the new characters and say “Man I think the Mayor have no chance in hell blah blah blah”. It all works the same.
Now that the game is geared towards zoning it has effectively turned Haggar into a full on assist character even more so. There’s no point in playing a character that’s designed to lose to zone and has more limited rushdown than most of the other cast. Not unless his assist is really good. Oh wait we’re talking about Haggar so it is.
Sadly, Haggar players are looking like they’re in a worse version of the Morrigan dilemma. People say Morrigan’s point game is hurt due to the air dash nerf but Haggar has been suffering this problem since Vanilla on point but completely worse due to wishing he was as good as Morrigan on point.
Like when I had to fight Haggar on point as anchor against my Doom anchor, I would win a good bit of the time obviously but sometimes I would try to go for a j.H gun since Doom’s hidden missiles don’t allow him to move or do anything the whole time he’s doing them and it’s one of his only anti airs against pipe that doesn’t involve air throwing. Of course due to how much they nerfed Doom’s j.H gun it was difficult to stop Haggar from air throwing me sometimes while I was trying to stay outside of pipe range cuz he could jump forward and grab me or pipe me before the gun came out. Now they buffed the speed on Doom’s gun back to more like it was in MVC2 and he gets full juggles off it too. Which means Haggar is effectively super done against Doom now. Now I have a reliable anti air against Haggar that I can use from most of the screen away.
Working to make Haggar a threat on point is a futile task. At most somebody will be a C tier hero with him but that’s about as far he’ll get. The most juice Haggar is going to get out of tourneys is the same as it was before. Being an assist and randomly getting lucky with the pipe as anchor.
It feels good to hear a non-Haggar player (I’m assuming) validating all the complaints I’ve been making since vanilla. His total lack of on-point capabilities was somewhat mitigated with the presence of a god-like assist, but now his assist has been nerfed and he hasn’t received any meaningful buffs on-point to compensate. With all of the buffs and system changes happening for the rest of the cast, I’m pretty sure most of his ok match-ups have turned bad and bad match-ups have become worse.
That being said, I’m still going to rock Haggar as hard as I can and hopefully Capcom will realize how pathetic he is and buff him down the line.
You are absolutely right although Haggar was not hit so badly with the nerf stick but he is still the character damaged the most due to Capcom sick need to shove the lame zoning game down our throats. But that will only make it this much more exiting to find a way though zoning using different assets and delivering the pain when he is in.
