On most characters (basically any except the giants) I do lariat and if they crouch (which they love to do) I quickly cancel in level 3. The above works as well, and in some situations it can whiff and the grab can still hit, but the lariat has to barely whiff. I also like to do :h: hoodlum launcher then as soon as I land cancel to level 3. I do this on incoming or in a blockbusting with an assist, and sometimes I also do this with the version of hoodlum launcher.
I find all these tactics work well, especially cancelling into from lariat on crouching characters.
That’s my classic too. If they expect something silly like that I try to scare them with a Dark Hole call and meaty pipe, I throw as they land. Advancing guard at the correct time thwarts this too, but it’s the same setup with a different look, so they’re less likely to see it. Also, catches sneaky airdashers, and saves the groundbounce thanks to the assist.
Curious, on this setup, meaty pipe into dark hole, I’ve never tried an H hoodlum launcher or a sky drop if they advancing guard, but wouldn’t that be a guard break setup?
For the guard break setup, I know it works without an assist with a late meaty jumping pipe and after pushblock dash and tk air command grab. With the Dark hole assist I doubt it would work, they would be too close to the ground to grab, i believe, and H hoodlum has too much start up.
I think I asked about this before but I want to ask again. Is it possible to create a safe block string/grab using a projectile assist and M Hoodlum? Is M Hoodlum considered risky by Haggar players? I’m trying to find ways to incorporate this into my game but using an SPD the moment they leave blockstun might me safer.
Not really related but if they they don’t get hit by the Hoodlum M (they jump it, the setup messes up, etc) you can always cancel to RFF which actually is pretty good at baiting people. If they don’t take the bait DHCing is a good option depending on your next character. I would experiment with slow assists or assists with holes int hem (Bolts of Ballsack, Drones) for your blockstring question. Ex. Use Raccoon’s double spitfire assist and do cr.L cr.M Call Assist/Hoodlum M. In theory something like that should work.
One thing I’ve never worked out with Haggar ever since Vanilla, is that property body press has when he lands on the ground and sometimes an aura comes out of it that can hit opponents. Sometimes it comes out and sometimes it doesnt, on hit or on block. Its really weird.
how do you guys deal with magneto backed by missiles??? he can just run away/camp until safely calling missiles out, and then just try to open me up while missiles are out, which is safe since missiles will fuck with any potential combo i try to do… god so lame. lariat is a cool answer to rushdown but doesn’t last long enough to invincible through all of the missiles.<br>
Is there anything Haggar can do against Hulk besides Lariat? It seems like I can’t even punish Hulk doing standing H into gamma charge with my command grab reliably since his normal throw starts up in 1 frame.
Use an assist to get in or protect you so you can press buttons without getting C’d. Confirm if the assist hits, or instant-overhead headbutt all day if blocked.
so I’ve been trying to come up with a decent team to stick with when i can play again, and I’ve been thinking about Haggar (lariat), Deadpool (quickwork), and then who? I’ve had some thoughts of anchors including Magneto, Vergil, Super Skrull, or possibly Akuma. any input? Additionally, I’m using deadpool because of his unblockable setups with haggar, but are there any other options? Really i just want a great team to suppliment haggar that might be a little unconventional. I also had a team idea for haggar (lariat), shuma (mystic ray), and akuma (tatsu), but someone said it basically sucked. so yeah. any help would be appreciated!
i use haggar/deadpool/doom (beam), shit would be incredible if i bothered to learn TAC infinites. it’s still pretty good, regardless. beam helps haggar’s neutral a lot. fullbleed uses iron man (beam) in the last spot, and it works well for him.
