I did use thor’s mighty spark in vanilla with haggar as a matter-a-fact but it had slow start up and low durability so therefor I found it to be very unreliable.I’ve always have a problem even with simple Ryus.
Usuable, my solution to a teleport is to jump back and use the pipe or use the double lariet with correct timing if they attempt to attack.
Dante’s teleport for instance is very easy to anticipate and punish. I’ll have to see how I do against vergils but I have a feeling well, with him being based off teleports, having low health, one easily dodged projectile.
Thanks for your advice. Also to everybody, I’ll likely be looking for advice of a plethora of characters (iron man is next).
Now that lariat isn’t what it once was, how are you guys feeling about his other assists? I feel like Pipe is pretty solid, it’s fairly fast, has good reach and a large hurtbox that can plow through a lot of stuff. The ground bounce is also helpful for characters that can’t do it themselves. I’ve been running him with Cap and find it’s pretty helpful for him.
I’ve been trying to set up Sky Drop resets, but not much luck yet. My BnB is j.pipe, :qcf:+:m:, xx :dp:+:l:, sj. :h::u+:h: xx :qcf:+:s:, Cap SS~c.:h:~f+:h:,:s: sj.:h: xx :qcf:+:s:. I’ve been trying to land reset after the last launch by doing :s: then empty jump and also :s: then :h:, wiat until they recover then do it. I’ve landed it a few times but the relaunch after OTG is kind of inconsistent height. Any tips? I can land normal airthrow easier but I can’t get the same damage off of it I can off of sky drop.
For the assist question, as bad as it is, i still prefer lariart. Pipe for its stun is good and all, but a majority of the cast uses groundbounces on their own now at some point. And violent axe is only good for combo extending at that. With lariat you still have some invincibility, but it just can’t be thrown out whenever anymore. if anything, use it to your advantage and use it to bait an attack from your opponent.
as for sky backdrop resets. they’re very risky, even in corner. the best way to land one is to rack up the hits with haggar using his wild swings then after a launch using L, forcing a recover then going for it. the problems with that though are; if they tech back and even sometimes forward you whiff, it’s more safe in corner but at that point, the corner reset is a better option, and with haggar having no air dash you cant read the opponent then command grab like thor, you just kinda have to hope.
this might help with what i mean with the backdrop situation (though in ultimate after a relaunch that followed a wild swing, all you’d need is a single light, with no whiffed move)
So, right now my three best characters are Haggar, Ryu & Nova. Is that a good team or should I find some new teammates for Haggar? I also want to get good with Deadpool, Taskmaster & Frank. I’m definitely thinking of pairing DP up with Haggar, since Haggar’s OTG sort of sucks. & I think either Task or Frank would be a good assist for Haggar. Any tips?
Deadpool’s OTG wouldn’t help Haggar much since it uses a groundbounce and Haggar already relies on groundbounce.
Ryu’s a good assist for continuing Haggar’s combos. Haven’t checked nova.
D) Task can help get in and doesnt need much help from assists, Frank’s shopping cart is Amazing for haggar.
As for Deady, try working with quick work. There’s atleast an unblockable there even if it doesnt help combo extend.
Has anyone considered TK’ing a fierce Skyhigh in the corner? If you react to an opponent’s jump in the corner (which is all the time. Who the hell wants to be grounded in the corner versus haggar) you can TK the backdrop. It comes out in one frame so it can’t be reacted to. I don’t see any downsides to this but let me know what you guys think. I’ll upload a video later.
Range issues, :h: Skyhigh may whiff. Better off doing :l: imo; better range. That pretty much turns into headbutt/Sky High Backdrop mix-up vs a cornered, jumping opponent. Pretty good.
Most of those are Bum’s Haggar/hulk combos with Hawkeye assist instead of Chris’ machine gun fire. I guess poison tip leads to more meterless combo damage but lesser overall damage as Haggar can’t continue the combo after THC with gimlet.
I do like the stuff you do with Hawkeye + assists. Right now I’m using Haggar/Chris/Doom but I’d love to put Hawkeye in if I see some cool Hawkeye tech with Haggar
ok, so i’ve searched through a bit of this forum and seen that it is possible to mash extra damage out of lvl 3 hyper. i also watched the ‘big two’ that happened yesterday and seen it in action. so now i ask, do i have to literally break my control mashing 360s to get that max damage? or can i lightly mash 360s and just obtain a little extra damage?
I finally got ultimate a week or 2 ago and decided to bite the bullet and play haggar on point like I wanted (and failed) to in vanilla. I pretty much replaced Hulk with Haggar on my vanilla team, Hulk/X23/Task. So I quickly found that x23 isnt doing enough for the team. After watching MrWhelan’s videos, I swapped x23 with spencer who just does not fit my playstyle or some other random excuse for why I suck with him. So I ended up with Frank and now I am in love. So my team is now Haggar(a)/Frank(a)/Task(a), but I feel that Task only helps my team because I am really good with him but lacks god synergy like he had on my old team. Can anyone suggest a new anchor for me? Ill likely end up with hawkeye but I just havent put the time in with him yet.
@MrWhelan- Your videos are awesome, they have helped SO much in giving me confidence to play haggar for real. That said, oh my god that music has been stuck in my head since viewing the first one. Your moving in the right direction with the triple H video(which was also awesome) but Haggar needs more face smashing tunes to lay the pipe down with. Or something like this…

So now that I got that out of my system, any chance in your next vid(hopefully there will be one) you could cover more basic stuff like the pros and cons of his normals and specials and also some more coverage of resets. Hope you dont take my music complaint too seriously and cheers again on the vids so far.
@nightofthesun- I cant get extra damage out of it and im spinning the hell out of the stick, then again I suck at mashing too.
I believe the rotation time is only during the part when Haggar is spinnin’em before tossing them up in the air. At the end of the day it’s up to you. Haggar can OTG afterwards anyway.
There will be more Haggar videos on my part coming. As to when I can’t guarantee because of work.
If people would like i can do a tutorial covering basics, set-ups and possibly delve into the in-game use of Haggar.
I mentioned a few weeks back that I’d be uploading gameplay matches as well so people can get a better idea of his use in match.
Also, If anyone is interested, The Lvl5 crew might be doing a lobby set-up tomorrow (Saturday 7th).
If you’d like to have some matches, send us a friend request and we’ll see what we can do about a lobby, possibly recording the highlights.
Remember this is a group account. So there will be a variety of teams used by a few different players.
I’ll do my best to at least keep up to date on this thread on things to come.
Yes. Please. basics etc. I want to make my haggs guud. he’s my favorite by all means. I picked up this game and put up with it’s salt and bullshit just because of the Mayor.
Yes, max damage (~504k) for Final Haggar Buster is INSANELY difficult of attain. I’ve only accomplished it I believe four times ever. The first time I did it I ended up with a huge friction blister on my palm.
I would greatly appreciate any and all of this type of stuff. I would love to see some matches in particular.
Jamheald’s new video on the front page has me thoroughly confused. Is it just me or does he use 2 ground bounces in the combo? 1st is around 6 seconds and the 2nd is at 12 seconds. Am I going crazy?
