Personally I like the structure unchanged 70/20/10 but if there has to be a change then I don’t mind this one.
whatever the majority feels, but i hate to hand out change to winners… heres your 28 dollars and 37 cents…
wtf? that makes no sense. You shouldn’t be reward for not making top 3. If I recall I remember reading a big article from Cali Power about people brag about being in top 8 and saying people need to strive to be better than 8th place, this does not encourage that. Skill up and get in that top 3 if you want that money.
In regards to the $10, my understand of even having high pay-outs is to bring out the top players that usually don’t attend smaller tournys, since the pay-out is usually smaller. I don’t see how this would benefit anyone, besides the top 3, especially when we’re getting 128 man brackets -those top players are coming regardless if you raise or don’t raise the $5. Unless your trying to bring the likes of Jwong every month I don’t see the reason to raise it. Shitty economy anyone? Anyways, I’m a poor college student so i thought I’d shoot my opinion, I’d still enter regardless, just wont enter other games or something.
that’s what’s up thanks
honestly, lets make the entrance $5, have a donation box for the sean w. stick fund and just payout to top 3. lets stop making this hard.
I’d like some constructive criticism please. “Skill up and get in that top 3” is not very constructive.
Plus, shaix510 makes a point at it being more towards more of the community instead of just the top 3, which to me, is something I feel is a good thing. I’ve read the Alex Valle article, and trust me, I although I like the article, it’s the times of old, and with the new growth of the community and more new school players, there needs to be more incentive other than just top 3. I honestly believe because with Fuddruckers getting over 64 people in the last two tourneys, that a top 5 is reasonable. I’ve had my fair share of placing already, why can’t more of the community reap some of the benefits as well? If anything, it might be something that’s kept the community so small for such a significant amount of time until just recently, with the SF4 move.
And in the future, if it was $10, then obviously that would benefit the top 5/8. And $10 isn’t all that much, even in this shitty economy, but that’s speaking for myself and not all college students.
Continue discussion please =]
Edit: Also, I agree with Nima, $5 for this tourney + donation box. That is all, any future changes will be decided later. K, thanks.
This.
I’m with Nima and also
3/5 losers is good.
I think the logic makes perfect sense. And I would say times have changed and people want to be reward for doing less than expected (not placing top 3). I see this every day at school, people wanting some credit for doing partial work. That shit don’t cut in the real job space and I think Valle was trying to say in the grand schem of things its not helping. But anyways.
As far as the current state of the community and its size, I wouldn’t say thats one of the reason which kept it small. It was the games and the comp. SFIV is a lot easier for someone to pick up and have them feel that there doing good at it. I think in a year it’ll get smaller, once good players really step it up and scrubs will not attend the tournys. But i could be wrong, I hope so, I mean its dope to see SFIV so popular, but I really think pay-outs have nothing to do with it.
$5 is another entry in a game or another burger or beer. it does make a difference to someone that doesn’t have a full tiem job. again, i’d be willing to pay it, I’d just enter one less game. But i agree, things should stay the same. Things are going good, why change anything? I’d only make changes if things start dropping off.
SFIV Love :lovin:
Like you said, its a shitty economy and you’re a poor college student. Don’t you want to get some money back for being top 8 or top 5? Like I said, its all comes down to if you want to win it all for yourself or give some back to the community. You don’t have to put Calipower down to backup your statement. I have no idea what big article you’re talking about. If you could provide a link to that article, it would be helpful.
LOL,
The times of the old is STILL placing and beating the new kids with barely any practice. Cough Ricky* Cough*
Look…There are events for spectators and there’s events for the Best players. I’m glad Norcal has been holding huge events, however, it’s a long road ahead of you before you think you’ve made it to the top. Ask Ricky, he’s been playing for YEARS in an arcade with the best.
Good luck to all and I hope to play you guys very soon!
On the discussion on whether new games are being made, or the how the community has been developing, that’s a totally separate discussion that doesn’t need to be discussed here yet, even though I started the discussion, so my bad on that.
I’m going to end my point of the argument here, which is I understand preserving the original tradition of how everything it’s done, at the same time, I feel that some changes should be reconsidered because it’s done nothing noteworthy to help the community either. Not that you can’t have a last say n3ss, i’m just being honest in how i feel.
Calipower: I don’t know if you’re directing the “before you think you’ve made it to the top” at anyone in particular, but aren’t events made to be for spectators and the best players? The spectators who then become the players, who then hope to be a name in the scene? It’s just my opinion of it on the subject matter.
Please don’t flame, most people are being real civil here and just want to hear from each other and/or their honest but constructive answers.
I’m a traditional person, I say keep it 2/3 losers 70/20/10
fuck you andry, that’s bullshit. i still love you, session sometime in the next week or so?
rets go, Im done with finals monday, anytime after :B
For my part i can see it being top 3 for low turnout tourneys with 40-50 ppls, but were talking ~150 ppl, placing top 8 there is well deserving of a reward, i agree this tourney should/will stay as was but in the future im down for seeing more rewards spread around.
Re: tourneys for spectators and tourneys for the best players im gunna get on my muthafuckin high horse for a sec and just say from this SPECTATOR youd best recognize that what im doin here is a service FOR the best FROM a spectator. If scrubs didnt attend the best would lose a good chunk of change so i think a little appreciation is in order for them too. I suck at this game but it is my love OF the game and the community that see me giving MY time and money for what rewards? Nothing more than a sense of satisfaction in knowing ive served my community. Its a game, lets just play eh?
<333
Paying out to top 3 is standard for hard work and determination. This is the motivation for people putting in the work.
There are ways to encourage the spectators to keep playing by doing something like Gootecks’ Bar Fights, a proactive event to level up your community like my RTSD events, or maybe some random MM’s if your community is cool about it.
In time, those events will inspire the masses to join anything SF related and inevitably produce top players.
Last,
What I meant about the "long road ahead…"
Keep the spirit alive with not being comfortable at top 16… GO FOR THAT MONEY!!!
fo sho sir
btw… would you ever come out to our fuddruckers tourney sometime?? along with some of your socal cats, that would be AWESOME if you guys did, i’m sure we’d have lots of fun
I wish I can join more events man I really do =( Old man days got my travelling days by the balls.
I can hold a big RTSD event and invite you guys anytime tho bro =D
