Mass Effect 2. Somebody's getting shot and thrown out a window

here’s how i dealt with AI through insanity. Enemies will only attack the nearest target, so form a triangle formation of you in front, and two teammates farther behind you and in cover. Sit there in cover taking fire while your teammates just whittle down enemy shields and armor. If the enemies start shooting teammates pop out throw some powers and fire to divert their attention. Essentially when you exploit the AI weaknesses the combat becomes army of two.

You can also do the reverse on bosses like YMIRs or Praetorians and use teamates as cannon fodder.

I heard the difficulty of enemies is based on what level you are. So is it best to rush through ME2 on insanity as fast as possible with having my levels as low as possible? Meaning no side quests. Also, should i bother doing loyalty missions? Trying to rush it i guess, but if i need these things ill keep on truckin’.

You should definitely do the loyalty missions.

I do not think I believe that, I just started on hardcore and it was harder then my current state with my soldier on the same difficulty. You simply have less options available to you.

So yeah, going through my second play through, this time going for Paragon Infiltrator(was a Renegade Soldier first time). I’m not quite understanding Infiltrator just yet, it seems to be really weak compared to what I was used to with Soldier. Probably just need more time with it.

I Love This Game!!!

Infiltrators are the hardest hitting class in the game. Just wait until you are taking out all of a heavy mech’s armor and health with a single head shot. Tactical cloak didn’t seem that great at first as this isn’t a stealth game but I made an effort to use it in combat and glad I started. The cloak’s weapon damage bonus alone is worth activating it but also considering you have 6 seconds (the majority of which is slowed time) of no one shooting at you to line up a perfect headshot makes it a no brainer to use.

Anyone know about some supposed face codes?

Its a long string of numbers that saves your apprearance so you can just modify your created guy instead of reverting to default.

In my personal experience, it does seem as though the enemies scale based on your level. The first time I played this game I did it on the Insanity difficulty level with an infiltrator, and I recently imported my infiltrator (level 27) to do a second playthrough. For some reason, the early missions have seemed harder than the first time I played the game (even though it’s on the same difficulty level, can’t go higher than insanity). I figure it’s a combination of the enemies scaling with your level and the fact that you lose all of the upgrades you made during your first playthrough. I could be wrong, but that’s what it has felt like to me so far.

Regardless, I think it would still be in your benefit to do all of the loyalty missions, simply to get all the bonus skills available to you for your next game.

I already beat the game on normal and did all sidequests ending with a level 30 vanguard.

I tried importing that character into insanity and got whupped.

Im pretty far into the game now as i started over with a fresh new infiltrator character. The enemies were easier to kill off the bat so thats why i asked if enemies scale with your current level.

Edit : Thank god i played my serious gamefile with a imported character with all my decisions i made in ME1. The story thats given to you if you play default shepard with no ME1 history sucks.

Just beat the game on Insanity on my 100% paragon Infiltrator with Armor Piercing ammo as my maxed out extra skill. Did everyone’s loyalty missions.

As an Infiltrator I found Hack AI to be a life saver vs any Geth missions. Basically you just have to blow your cooldowns and get the strongest synthetic down to the red and just let him kill everything else in the room. Hacked Geth Hunters and YMIR Mechs wipe the floor with everyone else. Any time where you have to fight 2 YMIR Mechs just focus on one till you can hack him and have him kill the other. I dunno how I would have done it otherwise. YMIR mechs on Insanity are annoying as fuck.

Also, I dunno if it was just me, but I usually brought Garrus and Thane along with me. Garrus can overload shields and he has armor-piercing, Thane has Warp for barriers/armor/regen and with his squad points properly set up he hits harder than any other character in the game.

The trick is to make them both equip the 1-shot sniper rifle, not the auto-shooting one. The first sniper rifle you get in the game hits a LOT harder per shot, and they rarely miss. Not only that, with the 1-shot sniper equipped, Garrus and Thane take WAY less damage, thus staying alive in fights a lot longer. They only peek out to take that 1 shot and then duck behind cover again, unlike with the second Sniper rifle where they just stand out in the open to shoot the entire clip.

Basically in most fights all I do is hang back, use the SMG (With an Overload/Warp thrown in) to get rid of shields/barriers and tell my 2 snipers to rape anyone who’s down to armor since Garrus has maxed Armor Piercing for both of them. Garrus+Thane+AP Ammo RAPES enemies who are down to Armor in a few shots with relative ease and safety. And this is on Insanity.

All I do is stand back and spam fireballs like I’m ST Ryu. Contrary to popular belief, your fireballs DO hurt shields. Not as MUCH as say, Overload, but it DOES hurt it. Think of it as chip damage. Every little bit counts, and sometimes ammo is scarce. Especially since your heavy-hitter is your Widow sniper rifle and it’s only got like 12 shots… (LVL 4 Infiltrator Assasin+ LVL4 Assasin Cloaking + LVL 4 AP Ammo = 1-shotting an enemy Vorcha on Insanity.)

Once you get Legion and get the Widow sniper rifle for him, you put him in your group. Just do it. He hits like a TRUCK. And he can take a beating with his extra skill. I had Legion and Miranda with me to fight the last boss, and I think Legion did almost as much damage to the last boss as I did.

SPOILER:

Dunno if difficulty matters but for final level on Insanity I went with these people and no one died:

Tech - Tali

2nd Leader (both times) - Jacob

Biotic Shield - Samara

Escort - Thane

Now I’m replaying it going 100% Renegade with a new class, maybe I’ll try Soldier… Gonna miss my cloaking though, that shit was a life-saver.

^_-;

Soldier plays remarkably similar to infiltrator (adrenaline rush does the same time-slow that the infiltrator’s sniper scope does, letting you line up headshots). No cloak is traded for better shields/health, and if you pick warp ammo as your special, you can burn down any color health bar quickly with the assualt rifle (which I recommend going for, every other gun has some class doing it better, AR is a soldier’s game)

Christ…I’m thinking I should have done insanity with a solider or infiltrator…I went with a level 30 sentinel and my team is grunt with group flame rounds and miranda with the damage boost. I’m making progress (I have to get the IFF) but good lord there are some serious gun battles in this game (Fucking wars lol). When I was on the collector ship and I had to fight that giant flying crab thing with the human skulls in its mouth that shoot fucking LASERS out of it’s eyes (Jesus christ) I just ran round a pillar in a circle for 2 mins throwing warp hadokens at it.

This game is meant to be played on insanity.

Quote of the thread imo.

I’d appreciate more details on this please.

On X-Box 360 it’ll appear on your character stats screen (right over your head) after you beat the game and import your ME2 character. You might get see it normally if you’re playing on a PC or if you don’t import a character from ME1 but I’m not sure. You can put in these codes at the bottom of CC editor and it’s supposed to make your character in theory. However, when I tried my code in the CC editor it was way off. Maybe it’s because my character was imported from ME1 and the Character Creators is different between both games.

Don’t know if this was posted but its a detailed explanation of the last part of the mission by a bioware rep and why certain characters seem to die all the time.

I was actually pretty surprised at how many of my choices in the first game affected my playthrough of Mass Effect 2. These are just a few off the top of my head:

game differences from a Paragon ME 1 Import

[details=Spoiler]First, these are some of the major differences:

Default Shepard in ME 2 assumes that you let the Council die in the first game, so there is a lot of racism present in the Citadel, and a brand-new Council that you don’t get to meet. If you saved the Council in the first game, there will be quite a few differences in the Citadel. First, there is a lot less racism in the Zakera Wards. For example, the hostile turian arms dealer at the top floor of the ward will actually be friendly, as will the two asari on the bottom floor who are trying to get a flight offworld. When you visit the Presidium, you actually get to meet with the old Council, and have a chance to reinstate your Spectre status.

Default Shepard in ME 2 assumes that you weren’t able to convince Wrex to back down and thus had to kill him. If you were able to convince him to back down in the first game, he’ll still be alive in ME 2 and will be the clan leader for Urdnot, instead of Wreav. You’ll get a much warmer welcome (since he’s your homie).

Then there is the romance choices that you made in the first game that transfer over to ME 2, such as a portrait in your character’s room, some changes during the events on Horizon (or on Illium if you romanced Liara), and so on. Default Shepard in ME 2 assumes that you didn’t engage in any romances.

Then there are quite a few minor changes that you’ll see throughout the game. For instance, if you chose to free the Rachni Queen in the first game, she’ll send an asari messenger to meet with you on Illium to thank you for freeing her, as well as letting you know that she’s got your back against the coming darkness (i.e., the Reapers).

If you didn’t put Wrex in your team when you go to infiltrate Chora’s Den in the first game, Fist will still be alive and be hanging out in Omega, where you can talk to him. Helena Blake can also be found on Omega if you spared her life in the first game, and you can ask her what she is doing there.

If you let Shiala (the asari being controlled by the Thorian in ME 1) live in the first game, she’ll be the one you’ll meet on Illium to tell you about the medical contract dispute for the colonists of Zhu’s Hope, instead of the random colonist that you meet with the default Shepard. If you helped Gianna Parasini in the first game, she’ll also be on Illium, offering an assignment to you.

I’m sure there are more, but those are just the ones that I can remember right now.[/details]

The asari researcher on vermire that you meet right before sovereign can be found on the grunt mission if you let her live and escape the nuke.

I just thought of a quest I did in ME1, but I didn’t see what the consequences were in ME2. The quest I’m talking about is…

ME1 quest

[details=Spoiler]
…the quest where you learn that Shepard used to run with a gang. This guy wanted me to help get a gang member out of prison, but it turned out that the prisoner was racist against Turians. I think the quest availability depends on the choices you made when you created your character. I ended up killing the guy when he threatened to tell everyone about my Shepard’s past.[/details]
