Mass Effect 2. Somebody's getting shot and thrown out a window

Personally, I think Mass Effect is going to culminate in a mumorpuger. I see the signs.

I think the CEO of Bioware confirmed that it was coming out on current hardware. I’m pretty sure it was a Joystiq interview where he said it

I already banged Jack, now I am waiting for Tali to finish her work on the Super Condom so she doesn’t get Space AIDS and die when I’m boning her.

imo.

Would be full of win if the beings of light assuming they exist were the Hannar:rofl:

This one believes it is time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and this one is all out of gum

epic game

epic series

I just decided to go back and play through ME1 and after putting a few hours in I must say that I enjoyed ME1 a lot better than ME2. The second one was great, but the first one seems to have done a lot more right than the second one did. I do like the scope of the combat better in #2 in that the (Gears of War) cover system was done well, and the combat seemed much more open. I like that Sniper Rifles were actually useful, and your party members did seem smarter than in the first. What I don’t like is how much the abilities were scaled down. Maybe there were a few too many in the first, but I liked the progression system in the first better and think that the number of abilities in #3 should be somewhere in between #1 and 2. I liked the timing of the conversations in #2, and I did appreciate how well written all of the choices were so that no matter which you picked the conversations still flowed.

Still what ME1 did right was the weapon and armor system. ME2 REALLY dumbed things down here. I hesitate to point the finger at EA and say they’re evil, but having played other Bioware games it’s hard for me to think otherwise. Throwing out a handful of guns ammo and upgrades that were universal was a real turnoff. Maybe we don’t need 50 different pistols, but four (or however many there were) felt like a slap in the face and an attempt to dumb things down. Getting rid of the elevators was awful. Of course you always know you’re playing a videogame, but loading screens are like watching a movie with commercial breaks. It just takes away from the immersion factor a lot. The news updates and banter during the elevator scenes were really genius. I also like the Citadel from the first much better. You really felt like you were on a big ass space station. Now it just feels like a backwater rest stop. I can’t complain too much about the story in ME2, because the first in a trilogy like this will almost always be stronger than the second. Being introduced into a world will almost always come off better than just continuing within it. Lastly I liked the gritter atmosphere and battle music of the first a little bit better as well.

I can’t believe this.

I have a few question’s, any that are related to the story I’ll post in a spoiler.

I’m about to hit level 4 of the Operative Power and I’m an Infiltrator. What do you think is more beneficial, evolving into an Assassin or an Agent? I should have done this earlier really and went into an Agent as I’ve missed a few Paragon dialogue options.

Romance

Spoiler

I’ve had Miranda “locked in” as my romance interest in the game for a while now, as she keeps repeating the “I’ll be by when things are quiet” line. However I’m about to hit the Omega 4 relay and the crew are all gone. Is it too late for Shephard to hit that? If so should I just concentrate on saving Kelly if I want the achievement? I’ve heard she is the only one you can pursue after the last mission and although I’m not at the end I’m guessing its coming soon.

Normandy

Spoiler

Upgrades. How important are they to where I am in the game? I’ve pretty much neglected them, are they needed for anything specific after I travel through the O4 relay? This is I’m guessing my last chance to get those upgrades in so I could do a bit of planet scanning.

I plan on playing through again, I just don’t know when I’ll get the time so I would prefer to get most things out of the way first time around.

Miranda

Spoiler

Once you go to the Omega 4 relay, you’ll get that ass. I didn’t know it was possible to save Kelly. Damn, so many unknown story variables in this game…

Ship upgrades

Spoiler

The weapon/shield upgrades come into play when you go through the relay. Definitely get the upgrades for scanning planets, as it makes the process faster. I’m not sure, but I think the weapon/shield upgrades determine the outcome of the final battle.

Thanks King. I thought I would ask before I continued.

Kelly

Spoiler

I think it’s possible to keep her alive if you head straight for the relay as soon as the crew is abducted. If you do any other kind of mission before hitting the relay then she dies. I’m hoping that scanning planets and traveling to different systems isn’t going to count as activity before hitting the relay, as I would prefer to keep her alive. This is my good game after all.

I think you have room for 2 missions before you crew becomes playdo. So that’'s time to get Legion’s loyalty

You guys need to get out of here with that normal mode BS. I mean if you played the first game you should at the very least be playing veteran. I played through on veteran and it was pretty easy, and now I am playing on insane with a sentinel. Things are completely different. I enjoy the game, but there are a few thinsg I am unahppy about.

First, the lack of a decent item system in a RPG is a huge error. At least show me the stats on the guns so I can see what exactly makes them better. Second, the game has what 3 story missions? The whole game is collecting party members and doing their loyalty quests. Also on insane, the little hiccups with the cover system can get you killed at the drop of a hat. And here’s a killer, why can’t the hero of the universe run more than ten steps???

Fuck me I am getting ME 1 again and playing a Vanguard from that. There is too much shit that I do not like if you do not have a saved char from ME 1. I do for my soldier just not for a Vanguard.

Regarding saving crew + upgrades question

Spoiler

Do 1 mission and Kelly/Engineers/People with names die, 2 missions everyone but chakwas dies - watching Kelly get facemelted is quite traumatic indeed! happened to me on my first playthrough

Also, if you do all the Crewmate related upgrades, they are less likely, or wont die on the mission under the best circumstances - e.g. Ship upgrades are required obv, but character upgrades such as Mordins tool and Jacks biotics help prevent them kicking the bucket
I’ve heard people who didn’t get Mordins tool upgraded had him die during the final hold the line part for example

Also Jae you can download ME1 save files if you want to have things a certain way, sites like http://www.annakie.com/me/ are good for that, i got a renegade female shep with everything opposite to my para male shep cause i wanted to see how different it is plus everyone keeps raving about her VA - you can change your class and how the character looks after the cutscenes
I’ll survive without the Gary love though

Well I stayed up till 6AM and got it finished. Wow. I’m going to finish up the last weapon upgrade I need, complete the 2 assignments I have left and then start another game. Once I’ve completed it on Insane I’ll probably end up running through ME1 and then importing that character into another brand new game. I want to see how many things really differ, and wouldn’t mind having a save there that has been imported so it can then be imported into the third when that is finally released.

There were some certain characteristics that I didn’t like, but I completely and utterly enjoyed the game that much it isn’t worth me getting into them. Bring on number three Bioware.

Lokkins Tips

[details=Spoiler]I actually had Mordin die the first time, however I think that was due to the fact I chose Jack as the barrier by mistake and forgot I had lost her Loyalty due to choosing Miranda’s opinion in there argument after Jacks loyalty quest (Mordin obviously came with me, I was paranoid about him dieing in the other party). I left out a lot of character upgrades but I’m sure there are a lot of other factors in determining whether a character lives or dies.

I did all the ship upgrades bar the Medical Bay before heading to the relay and after selecting Samara as my barrier (since she was loyal) everyone made it through. All the ship crew made it back, however next time I think I’ll be a bit less careless to see what could have happened.[/details]

characters at the end

Spoiler

Getting their upgrades have no affect on the actual final mission itself. The determining factors are squad loyalty and team leader roles. Choose incorrect people for certain roles will get them or other squad members killed. I finished my first playthrough with everyone alive and no character specific upgrades.

Lokken I have it on SexBox.

Just beat the living fuck out of ME 1 at level 60 and I did everything I could. Time to import.
