colossus is all you need really. has the most depth behind it, can be used for MANY other things. in the ECC matches, i see players mash psy for meter then duo, sure in all it takes away about 30%-50%. a good duo, though, complete with grab -> supers, air grab -> supers, or high/low mixups while in stun should kill always though.

colossus, should be used mainly as an anti air. if they jump on u, mix up with dash up (cross or right in in front but below them mixup) and call colossus, just about ANY character is guarenteed 50% off this. some can 100% after (wolv or wm, even strider orb resets).

others are for dash abusers (DO NOT ON WOLV THOUGH because he can do under a lot). usually use this mid screen.

lockdown purposes (col, while hes blockstunned either jump in lk mk, empty jump in c.lk, grab when its almost over, air grab, or when they jump launch them). when u empty jump in c.lk, do c.lk c.mk fast (like with strider). so that if they jump from it, u can dash around and launch. they cannot jump backwards because its too slow and will still be stuck in col. characters such as wolv/jin/gief with big hitboxes cannot jump out of colossus lockdowns.

colossus in general is hard to avoid if you follow up right .

its a 50/50 matchup imo, whoever gets the first hit. both can pressure where their strong points are, air for wm, ground for wolv.

what wm will try to do is turtle and duo. wolv’s main objective is to hit and kill. imo this match leans a lil towards wm’s favor. lkxxad u repeat fast (use claw method for this), keeps wolv at bay. he cannot sj. lp, tornado claw, or jump and grab or jump and lp. fatal claw will eat a lk roll into big inf. if wolv tries to jump around and attack it with a stomp, he eats a hpxx ad u/f inf. wm can fake knee baiting a colossus, then going over it and kneexxhk start inf as well. sj mp, mp (before land) is a good turtle tactic. hits high/low for stomps/dash in c.lk.

for wolv, his lockdown on the ground is important. dash up s.lp s.mp tap down 3p (let dash go a while) s.lk s.mp repeat. wm CANNOT c.lk in between and start inf. as well as if he pushes, wolv is still there (the late dash). if he pushes and holds up, eats a mp into inf into 100%. when things get ugly, the best thing to do is duo out before you take chip or die from a duo. jump mp mash is good. a safer approach is sj mp mp, mp mp drill claw into wall behind u, mp mp. dash up c.lk goes under col. dash up c.lk goes under wm c.hp (missile). dash up c.lk beats all of wm’s moves on the ground (priority on it).

Since the thread seems to be making progress can you guys answer my questions a few posts up, please?

tiers dont matter to me. i would use anyone in a tournament.

jin has a good j.hp that hits very early. if you try to stand and block, u’ll get hit if not that quick.

i just do j.hp s.hp after it connects, not much to do after it if you dont have meter. if u have 1, j.hp dash up c.lp c.mpxxblodia punch. if u have 2 meters, depending on ur 2nd character, can do devastating damage. with strider, though, ur better off using the 1 meter unless you want to tag. j.hp dash up c.lp c.mpxxdouble team. another thing is to make sure j.hp hits. for all reasons. no blockstun on jump ins so a c.lk will catch. as well as s.hp leaves u open.

jin’s bad because his jump is the slowest (it is, trust me, hulk and gwm can get off the ground quicker). he has some MEAN blockstun when he gets hit. a lot of his normals leave him open. his duo options arent that great.

some things that are good to know are. after u blodia close in the corner, u can c.mpxxblodia again. if you hit with colossus, s.mp, there are combos u can inf. but its character specific and hard to bother to learn.

i use c.mk for anti air. doesnt do much, but its fastest and safest imo.

i usually jump away with hk or hp accordingly. sometimes i drill but be careful with it.

block, a lot.

jin is better of a stall character, so just duo him out if ur on point with him, and let ur 2nd character do damage. dont drain all the helpers with jin.

no fun being a mod if noone posts :frowning: post up just dont let this thread get stupid

:rofl: I remember playing this game circa 98’.

then when MVC 2 dropped it fucking killed MVC1

Strider - what?? when does he land a low forward on wm? when can he lock down wm with orbs (everyones figured a way to get out.) his duo abilities? wm’s are better. strider is good, not the best though.

Red venom - ?? just pick gwm. as for normal characters, the c.hp rush can be pushed. strider jump back hp/hk, psy, lou, col. i know that he can grab through/go under col, gotta time it after a string. strider s.mp s.hkxxcol. use all the cols, build meter, duo, kill that RV with a duo. grab mixups, high/low lockdown mixups. and if he counters, continue damage on the 2nd character.

Wolverine - his inf is reliable, claw method or ROM method his inf. theres a way to slow it down and block string it forever, and you cannot push and jump out or mp will hit it. only way out is to let him grab you or duo or w/e. reset combos, 100%, after BBX.

War Machine - what about his inf and gb? it is, very reliable, and very do able. to add to that, he has normals just as good as venom. they all lead to inf.

Gold War machine - you cannot grab gwm lol. if he holds up after kneepress, j. mp hp on the way down, mash s.mk on the floor xx col if he jumps, hard to get around. only strider and wm give him big trouble. no other characters can dish out true damage on a skilled gwm.

Lilith - block jab dp, dash in and punish. most seen with wolv. strider low forward is too slow, use c.lk. its not mvc2 and she has the most unreliable inf if anything.

Gambit - wayyy better than you listed him

Just wondering, does anyone here have a mvc1 machine in their arcade that a lot of people still play?

The one in my aracde is actually pretty lively. I see at least a small crowd around the mvc1 machine like once a week. Which is pretty good considering that not much people played it at my arcade a month ago.

OK, so who is better than Strider? I don’t think you can say WM because he at least has one losing match (wolverine). I don’t see any for Strider - closest being Red Venom.

Strider doesn’t need to land low forward on WM to win.

Gambit needs that infinite to win. And most people already know how to not get caught in it. And his supers leave him open or they just suck. And his normals are OK when compared to the other tiered characters above him.

Also, Strider > WM, easily. WM only has a tight air game. And he has to rely on setting up the situation because it won’t be free against Strider.

But yeah, like Bernie said, Strider has little to no bad matchups in this game. He has the tools to execute and keep winning.

I’ve only really played Wolverine/Strider as my central team, and I’ve always liked Red Venom but I never really tried to use him extensively, so I am curios about information from you guys as to what setups/combos to use when using RV/Strider instead.

Also, any info on Wolvie/Strider team help would be greatly, greatly appreciate as well, and I have to agree, Strider is definetly #1 in this game, his damage potential is off the hook+Orbs+chip damage+the fact he can solo and STILL win.

how does war machine lose to wolverine?

stay in flight mode, anti air stomps with up+hp (with proper spacing, back up and do this) and if he tries to sj lp lkxxad upxxlkxxad upxxlk spam with claw method. wolv cant touch him.

lol orbs wont chip to death, this isnt mvc2. there is NO true strider trap in this game, an experienced player knows the setup and when to just raw sj out. if theres a bomb in the way u can push that and sj out before he shoots orbs to u
or teleports.

read above. if u need match videos ill make one with an experienced wm.

know not to get caught in it? they will anyway. EVERYONE gets hit by colossus as an anti air, . and colossus is a free infinite.

lol what u mean his supers leave him open. noone is gonna raw flush. explosion is one of the best solo supers in the game that chips decently.

gambit has one of the best launches. so colossus isnt needed as an anti air unless you want to kill them.

you can also set up inf in corner with a ground starter, into a timed slow lk mk hk hp (otg) then lp lk inf start.

gambit’s grab is one of the best too. mash the shit out that kick grab and dash up repeat. wolv cannot c.lk it. grabs are faster. and if they try to jump mix it up with jump up chase and grab them. if they like to mash on wakeup, and here, is another gambit inf setup. dash up after the grab, close c.lk, s.hkxxlp card, dash up lp lk start infinite.

gambit has a good hp for turtling too. his jumping fierce has a lot of priority, only loses or trades with melee launches such as strider.

gambit got nerfed from xvsf no doubt, but hes still good. definitely not lower tier/mid, hes upper if anything. not to mention he is a good duo partner too for crossups and grab games.

edit: oh yea if u say flush from psy does shitty damage, ur right. psylocke sucks. use colossus.

with colossus you can late time ur flush after u see the 5th hit connect, it lowers ur opponent and it falls on around 30-32 hits.

well, unless you play on ending the fight quick, u or the opponent dying, then go ahead and use rv. he isnt a solid duo, and his duo grabs dont work well with strider since there’s shit on the screen when ur trying to grab.

he can however mash c.hp on a noob and get lucky. but you might not wanna do that in a serious match.

close range, wolverine needs to stay out of grab range, but within his c.lk range, in from rv’s c.hp range. its not that hard once ur used to it. keep it locked down with inf if you know how, rv wont be able to get out and combo+reset will be a gg.

mvc1 has evolved, his 60% air combo isnt shit compared to wolv 100% resets and wm 100% resets. my personal tier list goes like this.

War Machine
Gold War Machine
Wolverine
Strider

every one else.

this may seem absurd at first, but when we look at the new facts, it will make more sense.

GWM can sj out of orbs, smart bomb, and knee strider in the face if he wants to sj along with him. repeat til u get meter (which you gain when u get pixel pitty patty tapped by blue ring orbs) and then duo.

War machine has crazy normals, all lead into 100% inf into a VERY reliable guard break, 100% on that next character.

Wolverine has a pretty good matchup against everyone. strider may give him difficulties, its kinda like magneto vs sentinel in mvc2. if you play it smart, dont get hit a lot, and if all ur damage comes from pure chip/weak pokes, u’ll be fine. if not theres a duo for you, and not for strider cuz of his orbs. also when strider is lower on health just dash up and fatal claw his orb start.

Strider owns everyone else.

We NEED some Tournament Videos of this game when it was still being played, I want to really know who played who, and what happened and such. MvC1 never really picked up where I lived, only MvC2 did, so I’m curious, so if anyone has videos of MvC1 matchups from back in it’s prime, please post it up.

I watched the Ecc 2000 videos on youtube…however they are so color distorted that it nearly makes me want to vomit.

heres a real old vid of people playing online.

u may want to skip to the finals.

Where’s the vid?

And Magman, I still want to see you vs Sabin ft10 for 100. That’d be so hype for MvC1.

Bottom Tier=jin?

Wth.Jin a beast menz

i offered it in the thread, no response. spent all the money i coulda used it for but ill try and schedule it if he wants to.

heres the vid sorry

http://godweapon.net/comboVids/gamePlayer.php?id=391

edit: yeah skip to the finals the semi’s werent the greatest kaillera had to offer. i know its of scrubby turtle tactics but there was a tourney where me and t kimura played, he used dwm and i had wolv/strider. was an inense 5-4 match. i dont know where the video is at now though, i think on veoh.com. search “magnetomaniac” on veoh.com if you want to view more.

oh and kombo kaze, this game is more 3s-like more than most marvels. well meaning that you dont have to always go by tiers to win.

jin combo with morrigan or gambit j.hp land dash c.lp c.mpxxdouble team does some SICK damage.

even so, i recommend you start with the top tiers to understand the physics of the game. if ur playing just for fun and dont mind losing to get better with low tier then go ahead, they’re still playable.

and also i wouldnt take it as far as “not tier based” to go pick roll or orange hulk. they’re utterly trash. everyone else gets a 50% super off of colossus.

Jin/Commando can beast with thier combos…They can kill by doing it like 2 times

For jin I use mostly [Jump in]FiercePunch,LP,(Down)FiercePunch Then duo at the right angle can almost kill them

O yeh whats the best pad with MAME

Logitech or PS2

Logitech has a nice direction pad,but they fall apart =/

Ps2 has the most crappy d-pad,with gaps in it.But durable

What would you choose MM?

lol u’ll soon learn that EVERY character excluded roll and orange hulk has a 50% combo.

but i use mas stick, american layout p360 to play. i play all my games on that online and offline.

yeah that combo you posted was good if you can get the timing for each character down. i would rather use the double combo though, most guarenteed.

i use every single character, but my best is strider/wolverine. i specialize on them.

Your pad is custom?
If so can you tell me the maker…
The custom pads are to pro man
