No I’m talking more so about the creative decision for her to be MJ but not Mary Jane. It’s just odd to have her be a completely different character even in the name that the MJ initials stand for. But then they still want to call her MJ. Like they were too afraid to commit to her actually being Mary Jane so they made a compromise.
She’s filling the role of MJ for that universe. Pretty much none of the characters are carbon copies of their comic counterparts. I’m not sure what’s so hard to understand. She’s supposed to be Mary Jane for that universe, in every regard besides the literal name.

I don’t get the “fear” of putting Mary Jane Watson in the Tom Holland Spiderman films…is there some sort of conspiracy?

I’m not sure. It just comes off like they wanted to change Mary Jane the character but made a compromise of her being “MJ” but a completely different character instead with a different name even. Whether this was to try and avoid backlash from audiences and fans then IDK. Obviously there would have been controversy with Mary Jane being casted as a black chick.
As for the reveal of her being MJ at the end of Homecoming I have always kinda compared it to who ended up being Robin at the end of Dark Knight Rises. Dude was none of the Robin’s from the comics but an original character whose legal name was Robin.
MJ was never a good match for Peter, I always preferred him with Black Cat. Most of their married drama in the comics dealt with her not liking him being Spiderman.

When she was first announced it was speculated that she would be Mary Jane, which of course brought out some assholes, then they said she was Michelle and of course the rest we all know. Maybe they were concerned about the backlash, could be they couldn’t lock down the actress for a long term contract until after the movie was mostly done, maybe they wanted to step away from the name Mary Jane due to the drug connotations or they just wanted to be clever, we may never know the full truth.

The biggest hurdle with that is how do you make her not seem like a Catwoman knock off.
I am a Black Cat fan but it is very difficult to build the preferred flirtatious rivalry dynamic with her and Spidey especially given one movie or the usual higher ups preference of a younger high school Spider-Man.
