WWH wasn’t bad, like I said. There were just a whole lot of silly things that they ignored, like Iron Fist’s and Ms. Marvel’s power levels (9000 or not, they’re not pushovers and wouldn’t just get OHKO’d like pussies) and the crazy “omg, I’m not gonna kill anybody!” “twist” at the end.
The art is silly and cartoony, outside the first three pages. Doom, Sentry and Stark are all now back in time. They’re still very clearly in “catch up for Secret Invasion” mode, though. So, it’s in a “wait and see” position.
Thing is Civil War wasn’t supposed to have that great of an ending. It was just supposed to set up for the incredible shift in the status quo of Marvel. And it’s been great since, IMO, with the three Avengers teams (the third being The Initiative), Iron Man: DoS, Ms Marvel (that is, Aaron Stack), Thunderbolts and so on and so forth. Oh yeah…and Captain America. That was pretty good. WWH was a disappointment in having any sort of long term impact outside of the Hulk series. And the other Hulk series that popped up. But I don’t think it was even really meant to.
Anyway, Marvel always has a long list of great stuff that remains totally seperate from the big events. Planet Hulk was tearing it up during Civil War, Irredeemable Ant-Man was awesome during WWH (though it had a one-issue tie-in), and there are series like Immortal Iron Fist, Punisher MAX, Uncanny X-Men and Cable and Deadpool (which didn’t even mention WWH) that are available if you just don’t care.
yeah but some of these major events left some small unanswered questions like what the hell is happening with the Heroes for Hire crew? what about some of the bad guys that escaped from the Negative Zone? what about some of the good guys that escaped?
Hell i’ll go another route…what the fuck is going on with the Inhumans? Its like after Silent War they dropped off the face of the Earth.
Hey guys, im glad there is a marvel thread. I got back into xmen after being out of it since the end of onslaught. Messiah complex was really good i was very pleased…until the final issue when pretty muh nothing was resolved. Im really into the new xforce. and PLEASE, raise your hand if you thought exodus was dead/ at least injured/ at least made a mention about having his insides ground up by dust. nope, lets just pretend that never happened. i dont get that. lol, there is always one little thing in comics that sticks in my side, but i still love them.
yeah i’m gonna wait for the trades on X-force. Thumbed through issue #2 and its still pretty awesome. Wolverine and Cyclops are starting to butt heads again.
I got the free Secret Invasion Saga comic that gives an explanation of the Skrull history up till now. Its pretty interesting read.
And Jesus Christ theres tons of tie-ins to boot:
Avengers:The initiative
Mighty Avengers
New Avengers
Incredible Hercules
Ms. Marvel
Runaways(which is sad considering they haven’t even rapped up the current arc)
Captain Britain and MI:13
She Hulk
Thunderbolts
X-Factor
New Warriors
Picked up a few comics at my shop today and got the free Secret Invasion Saga comic. It is an interesting read, but as I said before, I’m sick of big events and won’t be spending a cent on this one. I’m guessing Marvel is gonna bleed the heck outta this event, use it to bring any dead characters back. I’m surprised Jean Grey stayed dead so long. I also find it interesting that Amazing Spider-Man won’t be featured as a tie-in book. Probably to keep it on track to bring in new, younger readers.
I believe one of the New Avengers books addresses the whole Brand New Day thing to establish how the change is effecting Spiderman. I want to say that issue comes around during the Secret Invasion saga.
^Oh I did and actually there’s something that was kinda odd in Hulk #1 when I re-read it again- Samson to Red Guardian/Russian rip-off of Cap. America: We’re here to help!
Panels later- Samson to Red Guardian/Russian rip-off of Cap. America: STFU, BITCH! (and in between this and the previous sentence there was NOTHING to indicate that RG was pissing off ANYONE)
Few more panels later after Dynamo gets blown away, Jen beating the heck outta the Bear and Darkstar just standing there doing NOTHING- Samson to Red Guardian/Russian rip-off of Cap. America: Please, we’re only here to help, let’s stop this!
O_o
Hulk #2 was totally WTF-
Hill: "He’s here."
Tony: "Who’s here?"
Jen: “THE %^&$ING HULK IS HERE!”
…and damn this
Red Hulk
Spoiler
COULD be a Skrull, what with Green being the opposing colour to red
So anyone except Iron Man and Captain America can be Skrulls in SI? After the crap Joe Q pulled in OMD, I have a hard time taking anything that walking takeout eatery says at face value.
One of the Captain America’s running around during SI will obviously be a Skrull. But I don’t think (at least I hope) they will try to undo Cap’s death or Tony’s actions in CW. They are better characters for CW.
And Bucky/Brubaker are killing it over in Captain America’s solo.
