Marvel Comics Thread

Morrison really didn’t invent that, when Jean first got possessed by the Phoenix Force she would have her fits and act like queen of the galaxy and be all weird. I will admit Phoenix stuff did make her like 1% more interesting, putting her at…1%.

I like Wolverine and all but really…this is fucking insane, of all the things to do, this is just over board.

Here’s a mutant shark, there’s Marvel jumping over the shark, narrowly dodging optic shark blasts. Also Batman did it better:

Well the Bullseye stuff falls into my interesting moments here and there category but it’s over and done when you are reminded really fast that it’s a death that probably won’t stick.

The entire story just rang of Wolverine’s Enemy of the State too much too soon, but trade Wolverine for Daredevil. I wasn’t a big fan of that story either.

Perhaps my ‘not worth reading’ statement was a bit harsh. I just feel there are much better comics out that you there should give your time to. Daredevil lead The Hand, now he doesn’t. Now read some Fantastic Four Hickman.

Hey I guess if you want to know what that Shadowland background in UMvC3 is all about I guess go for it and form your own opinion. The story still won’t tell you how that came about, just how it fell apart so be warned.

So THATS why it was so damn expensive on Amazon! And I think you’re the first person I’ve heard of that likes his art.

Just read it online last night…meh lol. And I’m about to start reading some Fantastic Four since I really enjoyed Hickman’s early Future Foundation stuff before it became all about the kids.

Nothing really worth noting about any of the AvX books that came out today. Nice artwork for the most part. The Spider-Man Ends of the Earth special was cool though.

The story of how Matt came to lead the Hand was in Brubaker/Lark’s run. Their last couple of storyarcs, Lady Bullseye and Return of the King, culminate with him taking control. Their run is definitely a lot better reading than Shadowland.

No. Dillon’s a very good artist. His art’s not flashy or similar to the current popular superhero art, but I think anyone who reads lots of comics appreciates his work. His art tells stories clearly and without clutter. The one quirk of his that I don’t really care for is how he draws a lot of his people with their mouths slightly open so you can see their front teeth. I feel like it makes a lot of his people look like retards. But really, he’s a skilled draftsman when it comes to telling a story.

He’s also pretty fast and reliable, which is something to respect in this era of artists jumping ship every other arc.

That’s bull, Sano. Stop backing down from your harsh statements. I think you need to take a stand for yourself and lay the wood a little bit harder. Don’t capitulate to people who disagree with your opinions, man. I don’t want a Comic Book Forum Mod who doesn’t stand up for himself. I want my Comic Book Forum Mod to have giant balls made of adamantium that he slaps in people’s eyes when they disagree with him. That’s what I want.

Mods aren’t here to be loved. Mods are the men with power who sit on top of the mountain and laugh at the rest of us peons. I want a mod that I can fear, a mod that makes me tremble and pee my pants at night. That’s the only kind of mod I can respect.

Wield that banhammer like Thor chucking Mjolnir at, like, a troll or something.

Stop apologizing for being harsh. Shadowland was crap. I didn’t even read all of it and I’m saying that will all the authority I’ve got. (Which is only a miniscule fraction of Sano’s authority.) The art in Shadowland is garbage, late '90s/early 2000s Top Cow house style crap. Billy Tan isn’t the best artist to begin with, but his work was at least enjoyable when he did some Uncanny X-Men with Brubaker. I don’t know what happened since then. His Avengers and Shadowland is just awful, scratchy stuff. What’s worse is that it’s hiding behind these gorgeous John Cassaday covers. Totally deceptive. I hate when comics trick you like that.

The story in Shadowland isn’t much better. I lost all my faith in Andy Diggle, and I say this as someone who absolutely loves The Losers, which really was one of the most memorable series of the previous decade. But he hasn’t written many other good comics other than Rat Catcher. I feel like all of his other stuff I’ve read has either been average (Silent Dragon, Green Arrow: Year One, Adam Strange, Swamp Thing) or just crap (Daredevil, his Batman story with Whilce Portacio, Hawkeye).

The entire premise of Shadowland was just hokey. It was hard to take it seriously, so Diggle lost the battle even before he began.

maybe Sano is holding back that rage before he releases ragnarok upon thee.

I bought the Spider-man tie in thinking that it would be the same tie in from Siege boy I was wrong LOL. Shadowland had a poor execution imo

Wow Zeph, someone had a lot of time to kill and drank a bucket of Hatorade. I’m just happy you’re not talking about House of M.

Been hearing the rumor about a Guardians of the Galaxy movie for a while now. Spoiler below for the Avengers movie if you still haven’t seen it yet.

Please make it happen.

I was completely not surprised when I saw the VS #2 cover and was like “He wins…aaaand he wins” then my predictions became true. Also like the first issue one person somehow won without winning.

The blurb at the beginning was kind of offending, but I bitch enough about Marvel.

Reading through Uncanny X-Force right now, really liking this comic a LOT more than I expected. Fantomex is so interesting, and Deadpool actually is not really bothering me.Also I had a fan squee when the Deathlok Nation stuff went down, that is so cool.

AvX is insulting my intelligence. Though the VS#2 1st half was pretty cool.

First Half

Spoiler

Cap vs Gambit is probably the best fight I’ve seen so far and the only one that I’ve enjoyed. The outcome was as expected, and reading that atrocious Spidey vs Colossus fight after ruined the whole issue for me, but GG Cap.

AvX vs. 2, very minor spoiler though

Spoiler

Hey did you guys catch the ‘Stern’ reference in in AvX vs. 2, when Spider-Man said something like “I have to give my agent a stern talking to!” Roger Stern wrote the ‘Nothing Can Stop The Juggernaut’ story in ASM 229 - 230, where Spidey and Juggernaut first had it out.

I really liked the artwork for the second story. Great looking Spider-Man, even though the black spider on his chest was a little strange, the head was a square. Still I always love Spider-Man with big eyes as opposed to small ones. Unless it’s Martin, Ditko or McCarthy’s version in Spider-Man Fever, few exceptions.

Pretty much the only things I liked about that fight.

The Cap / Gambit fight wasn’t bad but I wish it went on a bit longer or just used more panels for the pages they had.

Dem halves!

[details=Spoiler] Yeah it was fun to read, but really Cap has Gambit outclassed in like…everything? Although I REALLY liked the Kinetic Shield and Chainmail charge, that was classy.

Colossonaut vs. Spidey was like…Spider-Man failing at using his lips while Colossus just stood around. Really boring and a waste of time. for a VS with a WINNER and LOSER we so far have one definite win and three technicalities.[/details]

Yeah I caught that Sano, was very cute considering that is one of my favorite stories (Which was turned into an animated adventure as well).

Angie Harmon REALLY wants to play She-Hulk in a movie lol!

ending to Winter Soldier 5 was pretty dope the book is growing on me.

AvX #4 was better than the past ones. Hickman helped establish the characters motives much better and there personalities.

But Hickman should be writing the entire event.

AVX: Versus 2 was much better. But yes I agree, they could make these fights longer, maybe adding more pages, since they insist on doing 2 fights per issue.

I notice most people who publicly say they want to do something, never really get it. Also her jagged chin scares me >_>

Everyone in Hollywood wants a piece of that Marvel money now, not surprising.

Ha yeah, it was almost a joke to want to be a comic book hero in a movie a couple years ago.

Then Huge Jackman and RDJ blew up imo…

Just read, Iron Man 517, some of my guesses were correct, nevertheless very enjoyable.

I just finished checking on Marvel wikia and the upcoming comics look very promising, along with their covers. Especially this one:

It’s first teased in the short teaser synopsis of issue 522(?), it has grabbed my attention.
