Well X-Sanction kinda sucked. Carnage USA was goooooooooooooodlike
This week’s Uncanny X-Force was one of the best single issues of the year for Marvel IMHO.
S.H.I.E.L.D was insane too. Awesome two page spread that depicts a lot of big Marvel events and some of Marvel’s alternate futures.
This week in New Avengers Daredevil is a member of the team. The issue doesn’t touch on him a lot. Some funny moments between Daredevil and Squirrel Girl though lol!

Warren Ellis wrote Astonishing right after Whedon. You have to read Ellis’ Astonishing X-Men. It’s some of the best stuff Marvel’s published in the past couple years, and certainly up there in terms of greatest X-Men runs. Ellis’ work is certainly on par, if not superior, to Whedon’s run. The only thing Whedon had over Ellis was the consistently great artwork from John Cassaday. Ellis’ artists weren’t bad, but it’s hard to regret wishing that Cassaday had stuck around for Ellis’ run. I mean, just look how Planetary turned out.
Cool do you know if it has been collected in an omnibus like Whedon’s run yet?
EDIT: Well what I can glimpse off of Amazon there’s at least 6 volumes. I might try out the first book and if I like it I’ll hold out for an omnibus or a bigger collection.
I picked up the TPB that collected Millar’s Spider-Man run that came out this week. I only read the Venom isues and the Frank Cho issue when it was coming out monthly. I’m really enjoying it and it’s a great Spider-Man tale that involves almost every major Spider-Man character.
Only flaw is that this book contains no humor, at all compared to something written by PAD, JMS or Slott. Not that there aren’t attempts, it’s just I don’t find it to be funny. Which is somewhat unforgivable in a Spider-Man story unless it is ten times darker than this one like Kraven’s Last Hunt.
I don’t know, I find Millar to be unintentionally funny when he’s not trying, like parts of Civil War and Old Man Logan made me laugh and smile. It could just be that I like death and violence in fiction more than I should. :badboy:
I still never really cared for Millar’s Enemy of the State during his Wolverine run so this Spider-Man run is a lot better. Even if it lacks humor it’s a great tale about how crime could potentially work in the Marvel Universe.
I’m not up to this part just yet but about a year back someone pointed out that Millar referenced MJ’s miscarriage during this story. I think Millar is the only person to ever mention that in 616 since it’s a sore subject. And something that probably never happened ‘now’ along with possibilities of Osborn kidnapping the baby thanks to OMD and O.M.I.T. Blarg…
Got tickets to see the Spider-Man musical Turn off The Dark on Sunday! I’ll let you guys know how it is. Oh well I think it will have humor, unintentionally. When Swiss Miss shows up I will probably laugh my ass off.
Ellis only did three Astonishing X-Men stories. They’re collected in “Ghost Boxes,” “Exogenetic,” and “Xenogenesis.” Those are all available as Premiere HCs or normal TPBs. It’s logical that Marvel would one day release an omnibus of this work… But then again, sometimes Marvel’s collected edition policies aren’t very logical.
That’s funny that you just got Millar’s Spider-Man. I actually dug out my issues and reread the whole thing yesterday. I did think it had a good deal of humor to it, but most of it is pretty cynical humor, typical of Millar’s writing. If you were surprised Millar mentioned the miscarriage, just wait 'til you see the part where he mentions the clones! That part had me busting up.
Overall, I thought Millar’s Marvel Knights Spider-Man was an entertaining romp, though it is uneven at times. He throws a lot of paint on that canvas and there are some really fascinating ideas, but sometimes the execution comes across as a bit muddled. Or maybe because he tries to stuff so much into twelve issues, certain aspects aren’t emphasized and get glossed over quickly. While I thought the ending was emotionally satisfying, I also found it to strain credibility even by comic book science standards. (I hope I don’t spoil it for you by saying that Pete finds Aunt May alive… But the way he figures it out and the way she’s kept alive was kind of lazily written. Just felt cheap.)
Yeah I did get up to the Clones part ha ha! Nowadays that gets referenced a heck of a lot but almost never during the time Millar wrote the book.Once in FNSM and another time in Sensational that I can recall, but both came later.
Picked up Uncanny X-Force #18 and Magneto Not A Hero 2. Both were very good, especially Uncanny X-Force. Pretty heartbreaking. Plan on reading the entire arc back to back soon.
Also picked up Superman|Batman: Supergirl tpb. Michael Turner’s art is awesome. I think I tend to be drawn towards young/troubled characters in comic books. The only characters I like from DC are Supergirl and Jason Todd. Red Hood and The Outlaws is pretty shitty, but Red Hood Lost Days was sick as shit. I was thinking of hopping on Supergirl when X-23 is done. The only comic from Nu52 I’m following is JLA, and that’s really only cause I’m a Jim Lee fan (who isn’t? Unless you really hate 90’s era of comics)
Oh and picked up a Ultimate Spider-Man Ultimate Collection 4. These tpb’s are usually $40 but my LCS had it on sale for $15. Couldn’t say no.
Here’s a rather lengthy article about my favorite Fantastic Four story.

Saw the Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark musical yesterday. It was a lot of fun!
None of the songs being memorable at all is the biggest flaw but the actors they chose were very talented and sang the crap out of those generic songs making the best of it. At one point the characters are at a club dancing to U2’s ‘Vertigo’ and that song is better than every other song in the play. Seriously the Batman Brave and the Bold musical episode had better songs. It would probably be better if they hired people who knew how to write music for musicals.
I don’t have anything against U2 and all that but this really isn’t something that they are good at. Maybe like they say it was Taymor’s fault for approaching them and not giving them proper instruction in the first place.
The best actress in the whole thing was the one playing MJ. During that club scene she was doing that same dance that I’ve seen John Romita Sr. draw a million times whenever Gwen and MJ are at a party, and others have repeated drawing that dance. It was obviously intentional but pretty sureal seeing something from a comic like that played out by living breathing people right in front of you. Her voice and singing voice were also really good, if I were to close my eyes she would sound like what you’d think Mary Jane would sound like.
Everyone else in the play was good but I think she was the best. The guy playing Spider-Man was like a mix of a guy who looked kind of like Tobey McGuire but sounded close to Josh Keaton’s (Spectacular Spider-Man, MvC3, etc.) voice so it worked for me.
The story itself is like a mash up of the first two Spider-Man movies, with some changes made like adaptations do or just to keep us guessing. There was some Ultimate and JMS stuff thrown in too along with mentions and nods fans would get. It all meshed well I thought.
There are a lot of villains in the play and Swiss Miss’ role was thankfully demoted. I wish they would’ve gotten rid of her entirely to make room for another Spidey villain but her costume probably cost like a skillion dollars so best to get some use out of it.
It was worth to see just for the stunts. Spider-Man jumped up on the balcony we were sitting in and waved ‘hi’ at us. That was cool! Other times Spider-Man shot webbing at members of the audience. Seeing Spidey jump on the back of a flying Green Goblin was crazy! I don’t know how these people manage to survive all the crazy stuff they were doing, hell I’m surprised there aren’t even more accidents than the ones that already took place.
The sets were really insane and there were times it looked like you are on a side of a building looking down. I liked how when they showed the Daily Bugle and people walking around in the streets people were wearing clothes from the '60s. The musical was loaded with pop culture references so it was obviously taking place today, but this kind of stuff was a nice throwback to the time Spider-Man was created.
It was really entertaining. Still kind of pricey so it’s only worth it if have the extra cash. The lowest you can go for is $70. You can’t even catch a deal on matinee Wednesday when shows are supposed to be cheaper. I know they spent a lot of money on this thing and are trying to get their cash back but I hope next year they start lowering the prices. I probably will not go see it again, I’m good but like c’mon you can buy a lot of comics for $70. Heck with that money you can buy all three Hollywood movies or a Spider-Man video game. I’ve seen Broadway shows for $30 and lower at times. Just sayin’. Next year maybe don’t let JJJ set the prices.
Nice review Sano. I might have to check it out with the girlfriend when I get a chance. Ticket prices do look like rape though
Yeah the girl I was with liked the songs more than I did. I think girls like stuff better when they are not paying for it.
I dunno, I like musicals that have an insane amount of rhyming or are just catchy. Like 'Twas The Nightmare Before X-Mas, West Side Story or Little Shop of Horrors, stuff like that.
I did buy the CD for the musical that they were selling for only 20 because I’m a Spider-nerd lol so maybe some of the songs will grow on me. The CD doesn’t have all the songs because the show is like 3 hours long with an intermission and has I don’t know how many songs. The CD just gives you 14 but there’s way more songs in the musical. On the CD the songs are not in order so having a hard time remembering what went where because of how generic a lot of the songs are. The bigger numbers I can recall.
I mean the music isn’t so bad that I wouldn’t buy the CD or anything and I guess it’s nice to have something to remember the night by.

and sorry if it’s been posted before =p.
This week I was kind of thrown because Spider-Man wasn’t in ASM or Avengers! Thank goodness for Fantastic Four and the Comic Shop News Spider-Man comic strip featuring Spidey so I could get my fix. Because otherwise I’d get the shakes! :looney:
Lol in all seriousness my favorite Marvel comic this week was Wolverine and the X-Men. That two page spread with the teachers and classmates was INSANE! :wow:
Big shout out to Fantastic Four. The new Human Torch is no joke. Both the story and artwork for X-23 were spectacular too.
And ha both Wolverine and the X-Men along with Wolverine’s solo book ended the same way.

Latest Spiderman issue was neat…but the cover was a lie!
The last line in the book is…kinda…corny.
Thunderbolts seem to be jumping backwards through time periods it seems~
Daredevil 7 was great but that ending…O_O
FF 601 was kickass too.
