No. when last arc begins but Carey leaving… NOOOOO!

Not digging the news about Carey leaving “X-Men Legacy.” Seems like he’ll have at least one more arc after rescuing Alex, Lorna, and Rachel from space. His previous interviews made it sound like he wouldn’t be leaving the title for a while because he talked about a new “focus” beyond Rogue, but I guess that won’t be happening. I was really hoping Carey would be able to breathe new life into other characters like Iceman, although the X-Position on CBR with Remender hints at plans for Bobby Drake.

Post-Schism doesn’t seem to be the shake-up the X-Titles need and with “X-Men Legacy” gone, it’ll be down to “Uncanny X-Force” and “X-Factor,” barring a superb writer taking the Legacy mantle.

Oh, and I need to agree with AYO?! on the new Hobgoblin. Slott has definitely set him up as a sort of “evil” Spider-Man and the early art reflected it with half of Urich’s face showing the Hobgoblin mask similar to how we have half of Spider-Man’s mask on Peter’s face during some scenes. Unfortunately, I recall seeing him make an appearance on the covers of “Spider-Girl” and “Herc” (?), but never picked up the issues. Anything interesting happen in them?

Right my bad. I wonder if they’ll keep him on a new X book. Gonna miss Legacy. 6 years is a good run.

Thanks man I knew I wasn’t the only one lol. I haven’t read those particular issues but if I can find them I’ll pick them up. Hobby and someone else have a Spider-Island one shot this month together for more Hobgoblin love, I really can’t get enough, he’s so fun.

Recent Marvel comics reads

Newest Avengers Academy was pretty kick ass. Really liked seeing the kids outsmart the badguys here. (also seeing Hazmat go nuclear) should be interesting to what effects that whole episode has on Veil though. probably my favorite marvel book at the moment

Captain America vol…something number 1. Havent read Cap in a while bu the movie got me really excied and this seemed like as good a place as any to jump on. I liked it can’t say more than that

Amazing Spider man 666…I did not like. It was a bad idea to have this event coincide with Fear Itself and for the love of god can we please get rid of Carlie already. I don’t even like MJ and I can’t wait for status quo to be resotred god I can’t remeber the last time I couldn’t stand a character this much. I mean I hate Emma Frost ut at least she serves a purpose that I can get. I can see why she’s there. Carlie’s just awful. This would have been the perfect time to give Felecia a real shot too but nope. We get this annoying *****

as for Xmen I can’t say Ive been to keen on them for a while now Ever since they holed up in their own private Utopia I feel they’ve kinda missed the point. I miss Xavier’s dream. I miss them protecting a world from secret threats in the hopes that they would accepted one day. That was all just motivational fluff to put them on the moral track to be super heroes. IT was their With great power comes great responsibly. We where never actually meant to see that day it was just something to use as an excuse for adventures. Nowadays it just seems like they’re either defined solely by heir mutation or care for nothing else.

Look at Firestar and Justice. Both of them are mutants are regarded as Avengers and heroes (Justice is even a ex con for crying outloud) and it’s all because hey shut up about their mutation and do good work because it’s good not because they want acceptance. Two non Xmen have accheived the Xmen goal without even trying all because they weren’t isolated jerks about it. They don’t go on and on about how they’re the next step in human evolution (way to troll btw Celestials) or about how they’re and endagered species and build up a private army.

Also I just plain don’t like Emma. Was totally big on Academy X though. I can’t say why but I love new teams. Something about following a new team from the start is exciting.

kinda like how the 2 x-men teams reminds you of the 90s teams

also this daredevil 1 audio edition is cool http://marvel.com/news/story/16485/daredevil_1_audio_edition for those who are blind

edit: pics were removed and the new teaser for x-force 19 is crazy.

Hello.

I just wanna drop by and say how amazing fear itself is…Also any theories on what causes the split in schism?

Argument because one of the two wants to come out of the closet and the other wants to stay in it and maintain his beard girlfriend.

Maybe they just don’t like Dick Grayson. Did they give the same reaction with Batman Beyond? I would really like to see this generation of heroes to grow old and eventually rest in peace. Some will have successors others won’t and for the new ones to shine and become the thing. I feel that just about all of these new original heroes aren’t getting enough exposure.

Fear Itself is awful save for a few tie ins

I hate to be the one to point this out but perhaps you are following the wrong medium and if this is what you want you might as well stop reading superhero comics right now and move on to something else. Otherwise this medium is just going to frustrate you over and over again.

Comics only show the illusion of growth and change, but at the end of the day there really isn’t that much of either. And even when there are changes, things usually snap back to some level of normalcy. Not always, it’s a long process of throwing things at a wall and seeing what sticks over time.

Peter Parker is always going to appear to be in his mid twenties. Franklin Richards is never going to grow up the correct way. Things like this you just have to accept or not get hung up over.

Sure, most of us selfishly want these characters to grow old with us, get married and have kids with us. But it is not fair to newer readers. They deserve to discover Spider-Man and the X-Men the same way we did. Not jump in and start reading about Wolverine’s grandkid who they would have no vested interest in the same way older readers would. And without new readers it would mean the death of the franchise.

Obviously even with these parameters set up you can still tell great stories. Almost every medium has parameters that they have to work with. Still, if it’s not something you can deal with then again it’s best to move on to reading novels, watching live action TV shows and other things that offer real growth and change and not just the illusion of it.

On the plus side there are multiple alternate reality futures so if you want an ending or even an enduring legacy there’s several for you to choose from. Go with a variant of the future you like happening and go back to Lil’ Franklin. That’s the best advice I can offer.

I don’t see how it’s selfish of us nor unfair to new readers. For one, I wasn’t around when any of these characters were first created. Second, I don’t see how an older superhero couldn’t be interesting to younger folk when there are other fictional characters who were older in age and children still liked them. Also I don’t see how new readers can’t look up and watch the older stuff if that’s what they’re interested in. Hell, me, you and children still nowadays watch Looney Tunes and I think that show started in the 50s. I don’t see how new blood can’t still create an audience. All these characters were new at one point and time and like you mentioned other mediums like books, movies, and TV constantly bring in new characters and yet they still do well.

Really my case is is that I want new creators to deserve their chance to shine.

Edit: I don’t think Wolverine will die or grow old anytime soon. Doesn’t he age extremely slow?

You’re missing the entire point.

I started reading Spider-Man in the 80s. He seemed like a cool young adult to follow. If he aged properly he would be 35 at that time and 60 years old right now. Really fast he would become someone I couldn’t relate to.

In theory, sure people can look up the past and read older material but the reality is most people do not do this. That’s why people complain about stuff like Steve Rogers being dead when there’s a bazillion old comics they have not read where he was alive and they can just go and read those. People want what they want now on the racks today.

Sure some people do look up old stories of characters they like but that’s only after they are invested in the characters. Without that initial investment there’s not much reason for anyone to bother.

Again you get to experience Spider-Man, X-Men, etc. more or less the same way a kid in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and beyond. These characters don’t just belong to us. That’s why the sliding timescale exists.

You can disagree all you want but this is one aspect of superhero comics that is never going to change. When you and me are dead and buried Spider-Man is still going to be in his mid twenties. If it’s not something you care for then you should invest in something else. Arguing about the way things are that will never change is kind of pointless.

FI outside of certain tie ins is awful. Schism occurs due to Cyke telling Idie to kill. Happened in Gen Hope last week.

FI books so far that are good are Homefront, Academy(not as good as usual), T-bolts. I don’t read Bendisvengers, I don’t know about them.

Bucky deserved better. He made a good Cap

I’m glad some people are enjoying “Fear Itself.” The main series is incredibly lacking besides Immonen’s gorgeous art (along with Laura Martin’s coloring). It’s like Marvel’s summer blockbuster adaptation of Michael Bay’s Transformers: lots of destruction, very little character development. “Journey into Mystery” has been the best tie in for me so far with the Speedball story in “Homefront” coming up next. Didn’t buy the “Thunderbolts,” so no idea about its quality. In either case, Marvel is giving us the same bare bones (“spine” as they call it) story, while directing readers to tie-ins for the meat except the meat is mostly The Worthy causing more destruction and not anything particularly worthwhile yet unless the events in “Journey into Mystery” or “Invincible Iron Man” play a huge role in the conclusion.

As for “Schism,” I don’t think Jason Aaron has shown his entire hand yet. The first three issues all brought up issues like how to handle Quentin and Wolverine’s feelings about Idie, but things should be boiling over soon. I for one don’t like how Aaron is creating these incidents just to provide a reason for the “Schism,” much like he created the exact weapons for the Hellfire Kiddies to beat the cream of the crop X-Men. How embarrassing. Not to mention SWORD must be slacking if a little girl controls an intergalactic human slave trade.

Finally, I’m going to have to agree with Sano. Comic book characters aren’t going to age and “follow us” on our journey from teen to young adult to adult to parent to mid-life crisis to senior citizen. They weren’t created to (ok, we can argue that Stan Lee originally created them to age in real time, but that hasn’t been the case in decades). In the short term (3-5 years, 10 if you’re Jean Grey), there will be some shake up to a character, but they’ll eventually snap back to the status quo, or close to it. These are characters that we grow fond of and can look back at fondly to remind ourselves of our childhood. To me, this is an infinitely better gift because it doesn’t soil what makes a certain character great (say Spider-Man for his youthful exuberance), while making us appreciate different characters as we progress through life (now that I’m a young adult, I can really appreciate characters like Nick Fury). Hypothetically, Marvel or DC can create characters to fit an older comic book reading demographic. At the point where you’re dating and exploring the world? Read Spider-Man. Grew up a bit more and started a family? Read Fantastic Four. Who knows, maybe when we’re all senior citizens we’ll have uh… Okay, I have no idea what character they’d use. Silvermane? Haha.

Would I love to see Franklin finally grow up? Heck yeah! I love Psi Lord. But it’s not going to happen.

Since someone mentioned Dick Grayson, I’m going to admit I’m one of the people who simply hated him being Batman. It just felt out of character for him to take on the cowl. Many of the stories became “Batman” stories instead of “Dick Grayson” stories, which is what made Snyder’s run on “Detective Comics” awesome. Synyder kept his focus on Dick. Maybe I should blame the writers instead.

I for one am happy to see Dick be Nightwing again. Probably the best thing to happen out of the DC Reboot (that and Tim’s ugly Red Robin costume got a redesign).

Dick was a good Batman, did you even read the main Batman title or more importantly, Batman and Robin? They were Dick Grayson stories set in Batman’s world, and he was worthy of the cowl.

His new Nightwing outfit is ugly, his first arc looks terrible and he just got shoved out of the spotlight like any sidekick taking over for the mentor. Where is Wally? Who the hell knows. Kyle? Probably crying and being the worst of the Earth GL’s like usual. Roy? Don’t get me started.

It’s fine if they go back, I am not ignorant that comics reboot thank you. But do it with respect to the character and their fans.

Also Tim’s new outfit is dumb as hell, who thought Liefeld pockets would look good on an overdone Robin costume.

DC new 52- back to the 90s we go.

Sorry not a fan of the reboot. Kinda annoys me that they just threw away so many character’s history just cause. As well as new chars who people love.

Leaving an open mind to the dc re-boot, could be great, could be terrible. Think its good that some classic characters are being given new life. Swamp thing, animal man, the demon etc have had nothing of note done to them since their classic runs of Moore on swamp, Morrison on animal man and kirbys the demon. With such writers such as Morrison, johns, lemire, Snyder and Cornell they can’t all produce rubbish … Can they???
