Marvel Comics Thread

Marvel stuff I got lately:

FF #1 2nd Print (Dunno why I got this, I need the second issue and read wrong), and #6 so just missing one now (#2).
Ultimate Avengers Vol. 3 #1-6 trade (Blade vs vamps).
Steve Rogers: Super-Soldier trade (I still love this outfit and idea, don’t know why they switched so soon).
Captain America: Hail Hydra Trade.

Hasn’t both Marvel and DC been trying to give some of their other characters in the spotlight? The X-men has gained a significant amount of new characters over the years. Jubilee and Gambit were just added in the 90s and their popular and X-23 was made in the early 2000s and she’s doing well. Some of these new ones have even been incorporated in TV and Movies.

So, Dick is already Nightwing again? The whole new Batman thing just started this year didn’t it?
I was hoping when Static Shock TV show came around it would create a new popular super hero, but as I’ve heard they don’t make many Static comics anymore and haven’t done anything with him anywhere else.

Static is getting a comic in the new 52.

Hmm, Batman & Robin #1 was printed in August of 2009, so Dick has been Batman for about 2 years now. That’s a pretty good run for him. I started off buying all of the Batman comics because I’m a huge Dick Grayson fan, but lost interest in the “Batman” around the sensei arc. “Batman & Robin” was good under Morrison’s pen, but the writers who followed Morrison just didn’t do the title any justice for me. I’ll admit Dick made a fine Batman and his interactions with Damian made a great dynamic, but I was anxious for Dick to return to Nightwing. Perhaps I’m just nostalgic for that period of time when Dick was on his own in Bludhaven doing his own thing. Yeah, that was a while ago and I don’t have a fond recollection of the Nightwing title post-One Year Later.

Edit: Just wanted to say Nightwing’s red reboot outfit is slowly growing on me. It could’ve been worse: they could’ve given him his retro hair style with ponytail and all! Tim’s costume to me is a slight upgrade if only because he shows his hair again! Cyclops needs a similar costume modification!

Er… this is the Marvel Comics Thread isn’t it?

Guess I’ll just talk about Steve Rogers… loved his Super Soldier / Commander Rogers redesign, but it got switched back because of the movie. Steve was Top Cop for barely a year before “Fear Itself” killed James and forced Steve back into the flag. This is definitely one point where I wish Marvel spent more time seeding - let the heroes breathe and develop on their own for a bit. Bask in the “Heroic Age.” Now we’re back to event status and it looks like we’ll have another one next spring through summer.

When I think about it, the stories told in “Heroic Age” weren’t very appealing though. “Avengers” messed around with the gems, fought the Hood yawn, and discovered Ultron messes up the future. “New Avengers” played around with magic and hired Squirrel Girl. And “Secret Avengers” went on a trip to Mars, lost Nova, discovered a secret society, and then… went into limbo.

I would like to see another writer on the avengers now actually. Bendis is a little tired. His stories for a while have been a bit meh. Would like to see a change up

I like JR JR art on the Ultron arc in Avengers, that run was pretty fun. Secret Avengers dropping off made me sad, I loved that comic and yeah Marvel’s main problem is rushing EVERYTHING. It’s hard to make comic books feel cramped and claustrophobic but damn it, Marvel will make it happen.

Yeah loved secret avengers under brubaker but they obviously wanted him on other things, so a promising story and comic is again rushed and spoilt a bit. Prob with avengers and new under bendis is they are just wannabe Tarantino dialog and big villians. Not enough character development In my view. Can’t remember the last avengers comic I read that gave me a character moment that was touching or had a real tragic feel

Anyone see the Dr.Strange movie. How was it

the animated one?

kinda crappy

Yeah. I wanted to see that one and I heard that there was a Black Panther movie too. I think they will give me a good idea of the characters and their stories

Not really. The Dr. Strange movie does it’s own thing more or less, I remember not enjoying it. Black Panther film is just an animated comic with terrible voice acting and story.

I liked the Dr. Strange animated movie >_>;

The Dr. Strange animated movie was all right. It gave viewers a good idea of who Stephen Strange is and what he does.

“Secret Avengers” losing Brubaker was a tragedy. Bru seemed to be developing some big ideas with the Shadow Council and John Steele. Now that Bru is back to his main pet projects (“Captain America” and “Captain America and Bucky”), who knows when these characters will get some attention; especially with Bendis moving in to re-establish Osborn’s HAMMER for next year’s big event. Bendis’ Avengers comics seem to focus on getting the universe to where he wants it to be and doesn’t do much characterization. His treatment of Bucky in the pages of “Avengers” was just disgraceful! Why even have him there… The last good character moment in a Bendis comic was when Steve fooled around with that Asgardian chick in “Prime”… Oh wait…

Latest “Regenesis” shows Alex Summers back in X-Factor!

Very excited for PAD to get his hands back on Alex. It’s been too long since Alex was in any regular X-Comic. Hopefully his character gets some much needed development and isn’t just a prop.

And is anyone buying into the “Ultimate” reboot? The interviews claim there will be a very small line-up (3-4 comics) that will be very integrated. I’m interested in seeing what Hickman does on “The Ultimates” and mostly “Ultimate Comics: Hawkeye,” but I may end up trade waiting.

I’ll be reading all of them, they got some good writers on these books.

I’m getting them also. Hickman is a great writer and Spencer looks promising

Anything Ultimates not Loeb is winning, plain and simple. Also HIIIIICKMAAAAN is a fantastic writer.

Havok on X-Factor? Must…buy…

I’m not digging the reasoning for Scott and Wolverine to split after reading Schism #3.
So let me get this right
Schism

Spoiler

The xmen are about to get killed and Scott orders one of the new Generation Hope kids to take out the bad guys with her powers which kills them and saves civilians and Wolverine has a problem with that even though his dumbass was at a bar drinking as Scott pointed out? You gotta give me a better scenario that would split up the xmen then that.

Sound hypocritical of Wolverine, you know…considering all he’s done.

The newest issue of Wolverine made my jaw drop to the floor! Wolverine got OWNED by an old folks home DAAYUMN…

Wolverine has always had a problem with other people on the team killing, it’s why the X-Force decision was so hard on him in the first place, he had to drag some friends down with him to a level he doesn’t want them to be. Theirs a pretty good Spider-Man/Wolverine story in one of the AMZ Extras about them going out to a bar that pretty much explains the whole thing perfectly.
