Marvel Comics Thread

Just wondered what people thought of Jason aaron being put onto hulk and the prospect of a new defenders series by Matt fraction. Big fan o Aaron his ghost rider was fantastic as was scalped( if you have not read it then do). Quite looking forward to both. Agree with DNA assessment, cosmic stuff was great heroes for hire not so great. New spider man is hmmm mm don’t know, hope it not another Ben reilly mistake

That isn’t Juggs. That is the Colossonaut. Colossus with Cyttorak power.

Best name ever.

New Defenders series if if has the OG four would be amazing.

Ha forgot about him.

Defenders: Strange, IF, She-Rulk, SS, and Namor

But written by Fraction… Dna did a great job with cosmics but NM and H4H is falling short to me.

Wait…Marvel are releasing new #1s? Seriously? Well at least they’re not reboots =V

Least it’s not 52 reboots like dc

I’d much rather have Hulk or She-Hulk than She-Rulk, who I hear is…rather annoying.

Rest of the line-up is boss though. 3 out of 4, and IRON MOTHA FUCKIN FIST.

So yeah I will get and hope it’s good.

I wonder if they changed Spiderman’s race just to try and get more black people to read comics.

Do any of you feel that there could be some new super heros to take up the mainstream popularity mantel and these older ones? A lot of these characters have been popular for about 40 years some even longer. I would like to see some new ones get a lot of attention and have a different set of powers from the current populars.

I dont think so. The problem is that many of these same fans “grew up” on these heroes and want to see them continue. Shit Bruce wanye has been Batman for over 80 years and people caught fits when Dick Grayson replaced him for a while. I was actually excited.

At one point I’ve enjoyed reading A:TI based on the new characters. Cloud 9 is my favorite.

What’s A:TI?

whoops Avengers: The Initiative

Avengers t.I was great. Avengers academy is good as well.my favourite book for years was daredevil. Had an amazing run of quality with bendis and brubaker but diggle ruined that.
New issue by waid looks promising though

diggle on daredevil wasn’t that bad. I enjoyed it but haven’ t finished reading his run. It’s next to my bed in my to read pile. Heard lots of good stuff about waids issue.

Daredevil is one of the most consistently solid titles, if not the most consistent (in the marvel superheroe stable).

I think it’s just he had things happen to the character too soon.won’t spoil things for you but bad things happen to the character very quickly. It feels rushed and therefore false( in my opinion). Didn’t help him coming after the other two but it didnt quite feel right.

I AM PISSED that Jen got pushed to the side for She Rulk.

Really annoyed. Anyway, I LOVE Academy. One of my favorite books at the moment. Any X-Men Legacy readers here?

And we need to do some kind of betting on who the student who leaves/dies is and what teacher leaves/dies.

Yeah love X-Men Legacy. It’s always better than current Uncanny X-Men.

Hmm I recognize Anole and Warlock?

Logan was so good. BKV and Risso just doing their thing.

I actually think it’s more challenging to write interesting characters when their powers have fewer limits. It takes a bit more imagination to create exciting or meaningful stories.

P.Gabby and I briefly discussed this over in the TPB Thread, but I’m just not a fan of Abnett and Lanning as writers. All of their stuff just feels middle-of-the-road to me. Like, whenever I think of a generic superhero comic, I think of one of theirs. They aren’t the worst writers around or anything, but I won’t go out of my way to read their comics.

That Matt Fraction Defenders sounds pretty good. I wonder if how he’ll pay his respects to Joe Casey’s The Last Defenders story. The two writers are friends, as far as I know, and The Last Defenders was one of the best team comics of recent years.

We should start a pool on who’s gonna draw more consecutive issues of their respective series: Marc Silvestri on Hulk or Jim Lee on JLA? I’m thinking Jim Lee will draw three issues before multiple pencilers/inkers have to bail him out on issue four, and then he’ll do a half-hearted attempt on number five before giving up and promising us the next issue of All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder. Silvestri will probably do four issues. The fourth issue will probably come out five or seven weeks after its original solicitation date.

Diggle’s Daredevil run started well, but got terrible quickly. Almost too quickly. I recall reading a certain arc and wondering if it’s the same writer!

The Initiative and Academy are great reads as well, probably more solid than the flagship titles (although I thoroughly enjoyed Dark Avengers more than Initiative when both were coming out).

X-Men Legacy has also been consistently good (and better than Uncanny). I can’t wait for them to fly out to space and finally rescue Havok, Polaris, and Rachel. It’s been way too long.
