Marvel Comics Thread

Got two cool things: The Spider-Man newspaper issue which is neat. Told him I liked the Spider-Man big poster he had in the back (One with Spider-Man and the Future Foundation plus kids posing, was a comic cover) and he gave it to me. I was like awesome =D

Now it sits nicely on my wall, oddly I have two Spider-Man big posters now.

Fear Itself just isn’t doing it for me. It’s been four issues and barely anything happened with little to no explanation. And what’s with the huge amount of “tie-ins”? I use the term loosely since most of them are redundant battles with the Serpent’s Worthy.

Everyone here seems interested in Spider Island, but I’m lukewarm on the idea…

We are? mostly that is in ASM thread. Sano and I agree we are kind of tired of the hype and want to see the damn comic already. I don’t know how I feel about it really, I think the prelude is kind of stupid and don’t know why Jackal is making a Spidey army basically. Seems pointless unless Kraven comes in to hunt bitches down.

Oops, sorry. I mistook mentioning it as interest. My bad.

I feel the same way about it. What’s the point in giving everyone powers (how does Jackal benefit) and why should I care since these characters won’t be keeping spider powers?

I’m waiting for Schism. I usually wait for trades, but I wanna follow this arc as it happens.

Just read the first issue of Schism. Lots of fun and really entertaining!

Didn’t know it started this week. Good stuff, thanks for the heads up.

Also, I’m loving the Marvel iPad app. Hopefully they can make the regular digital comics archive HTML5 compliant - the iPad is just way too convenient to read comics on. Read the 4-part Psylocke mini-series yesterday - it was pretty awesome.

Yeah I liked the recent four part Psylocke mini too. Crazy how they wrapped up her old ninja transformation back story in such a way that you don’t have to hunt down the old Uncanny issues. Some good stuff in their too with Wolverine, Matsu’o and Yukio.

ASM was great this week with Stegman’s pencils and Slott doing a really good character study on Peter Parker. Oh and hey MJ is in this comic, remember her? Lol if the comic was a movie or a TV show you could say MJ steals every scene she’s in.

Some people who really needed to leave the book leave (AND DON’T COME BACK…) and Slott upgraded Spider-Man’s Spider-Tracers in such a way that you’ll wonder why someone didn’t think of this years ago. Overall a really strong ASM issue!

Schism was still the better read this week but I don’t want to go into any kind of detail this early. Wolverine had lots of good moments. The book kind of reminds me of X-Men First Class, only swap X and Mags with Wolvie and Cyke ha ha! Remember how X and Mags were BFFs in First Class until everything fell apart? Heh heh heh.

Looks like they’re putting Schism on the iPad app on release day! This makes things so much easier for me.

Just read the first issue. I liked the stuff with Cyke and Wolvie. The sign on his door was priceless. Cant wait to see where this goes next. Really good read.

Picked up Ghost Rider #1 and new ASM, will give details on it later.

couldn’t afford them just yet (Picked up a Captain America Heroclix brick), but I put Schism and FF in my folder Marvel wise for later this week.

Dude. The latest issue of Incredible Hulks was fucking awesome. I haven’t seen a comic book fight like that in awhile.

why the hell is Schism at $4.99? >:(

also anyone pick up Captain America #1?

I have been a little scared for this. I love Jason Aaron, but his Wolverine solo stuff is so tame. He is really good when left untamed, oh Scalped. But glad to hear it was a good read.

Lol what that schism issue is 5? It’s like standard comic book size! Back on the shelf, was hoping I could get back into X titles here but not at the risk of price gouging.

You’d think with comic sales at an all time low board wide the last thing you’d want to do is overcharge on comics and create like 12 tie-in comics to an event that was originally 7 issues long. But hey, I’m not “in the business” so I dont know.

Just kind of like DC going around to major distributors and apologizing for the quality of their books lately, and saying the real talent will be handled come September and to not you know, not worty and buy their crap.

…well that is my rant for the day, maybe Sano will give me and Zephy our own sticky thread to jump on the comic soap box when it strikes our fancy. Lol

Cap #1 a mini or the start of a new series? I didn’t see it on the shelf but will look later today.

Yeah, Schism seems like highway robbery to me. I didn’t even realize it was priced at $4.99 until someone pointed it out to me on Tuesday. Good thing because I was planning to buy it and I would’ve been shocked at the register. Ended up skimming through it and found it a satisfying read, but I’m not completely sold on it (and its price). Also not a fan of having different artists every issue (at least 1, 2, and 3 will), which was one of my complaints with Messiah Complex, but that was understandable since it ran through every book.

Captain America should be THE Captain America ongoing now. Captain America and Bucky might not make it past its first arc from some of the comments I’ve read from Marvel… Cap was a decent read, but it’s hard to put a finger on when it takes place since Bru tried to make it new-reader friendly. I’m really hoping it picks up steam soon (and isn’t hindered by McNiven), but I have enough faith in Bru to keep buying.

Went into the comic store for the first time in a couple of months today. Was surprised at all the new stuff I missed, didn’t even know that there was a standalone Cyclops book.

And yes, as usual picked up X-23, partly in the hope that Jubilee and Laura get some hot and dirty action (and mostly because its an awesome book, vampire Jubes isn’t just tolerable, she’s actually likeable here).

Hey d3v, long time no see! Well not entirely true, I see you posting in the Scrubquotes thread and such. But good to see you back in here.

I haven’t read X-23 in a while, shame since I enjoyed the book so much, just not enough time.

So Ghost Rider #1…it was alright, not bad but not overwhelming but it did a good job with what they were handed (I HATE comics that start as a tie-in, just seemed like a cheap way for Marvel to get people to read it).

Ghost Rider

Spoiler

The female Ghost Rider was pretty cool looking, also DAT ASS! I’d tape it’s infernal hide. Anyways the cult idea was pretty neat and Mephisto popping up at the end was cool, I can’t wait to see how this turns out since I REALLY think this series has potential. I’m a GR fan though, always have been always will be.

Actually series that have issues that are tie-ins to a main event, tend to sell a lot more. This seemed to be the case with Captain Britain and MI13.

Didn’t read GR #1, but what you wrote sounds cool. Anyways here’s what I read this week-
FF #6 had rushed art IMO, but damn son!

Best to read up til #5 before reading this!

[details=Spoiler]So we’re supposed to know how Black Bolt got back and how we’re told is through a flashback from thousands of years ago. Kree scientists bring their scientific research and results to Superemor who analyzes the data, and learns of the fall of the Kree Empire. He orders the scientists killed and for any worlds that the Kree has done genetic manipulation in to be completely destroyed. However, Supremor did not know of at least 6 worlds that had genetic manipulation done to it, including Earth.
…and that’s the issue. Next issue is when we see BB returning, and after that I sincerely hope to see BB kicking Reed Richards asses \m/[/details]

Is anyone reading and enjoying the current Punisher MAX series? Cuz it’s been pretty slow and sort of uneventful for me…

X-Men Schism #1: Dunno what to feel about it, would like to give judgement on it when I read all of it TBH. Oh and Logan being a dick at the start was dumb IMO.

Incredible Hulks: Seriously Betty/Red Shulkie better lose the attitude she’s starting to be annoying. Neat issue otherwise.

Journey into Mystery 625
]Oh Loki, even as a child you’re a riot, makes me worry A LOT if this version of you ever grows up and becomes an even bigger trickster[/spoiler

[details=Spoiler]

Captain America #1 [spoiler=]OK I don’t see Bucky anywhere and this is supposed to take place after FI, so I hope he appears in later issues. Brubaker seems to like to have WW2 buddies of Steve come back as enemies, he might want to stop that IMO, lol.
Otherwise a kickass issue, but I wonder if the Zemo at the end is the WW2 one?[/details]

Ultimate Avengers #6[spoiler=]I thought it was an OK issue, but I wonder if Millar has a hard time figuring out a good ending for these stories?
I kinda don’t mind the political stuff he did in this mini, but…Power to the people does not translate like that when written in Arabic XD
Also Power is قوة in Arabic =P Still it’s a lot better than how Dubai is in Saudi Arabia in the 616-verse, right Sano? ;3
I think we’ll see how Fury feels about Parker’s death in the upcoming mini/one-shot cuz there wasn’t much said about him in this issue.
Fury gets job back though and despite what happened, you can’t deny he does the best he can at keeping the world safe[/details]

Yeah i guess that’s it for Marvel this week, enjoyed it as much as DC.

I dropped Punisher Max after the Bullseye arc, its really slow right now. I do like the art though.

Actually I don’t like the art. Dillon’s art is too…sameface.
EDIT: Well it’s about fucking time, Marvel-
All of Warren Ellis’ Thunderbolts run in one TPB
