my thor omnibus came in the mail on friday. the book is almost as thick as the 360.
good to see the writer on thor the mighty avenger doing a free comic book day but still upset how they canceled that book and kept crap like wolverine best there is -_-
also gambit stories his first mini series, uncanny x-men 350
i didn’t like the ending in ultimate comics captain america but the issues were still good nonetheless.
Does anyone else follow the new Uncanny X-Force series? It’s written by Rick Remender and it’s fairly new but got off on a really good start. I’m now hooked. The team is Wolvie, Angel, Fantomex, Psylocke and Deadpool.
I didn’t know Remender was writing the book, I thought it was Yost XD
I wrote about the book in a previous post in the previous page (245) of this thread.
For the greatest Gambit story of all time, I highly recommend Wolverine/Gambit: Victims by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. It’s available in hardcover right now. This classic is not only the best Gambit story ever, it’s also considered one of the masterpieces of comics literature, just a splendorous, sterling example of the art form. It was made by the people who made Batman: The Long Halloween, which most people agree is one of the top two or three Batman comics ever produced.
Loeb and Sale’s Wolverine/Gambit story is essential reading (along with everything else these masters of the craft have ever made together). Wolverine/Gambit has a mystery that will literally keep you on the edge of your seat. In fact, the first time I read it, I fell out of my seat because of the shocking twist at the end of the third chapter. Every subsequent time I’ve gone back to reread this classic, I’ve had to read it while standing up.
It’s just a mindblowing adventure with some meticulous plotting and a shocking twist. The depth and characterization Loeb applies to the characters is positively Shakespearean. Gambit’s basically Hamlet while Wolverine is King Lear. I don’t want to spoil the surprise supervillain, but he’s essentially Iago. The tragedy and pathos in this comic are the most stirring you could ever find in the history of the medium itself.
Wolverine/Gambit: Victims. The very apex of mutant storytelling.
How can you not like Uncanny X-Force? You get Deadpool without Way and Psylocke without Greg Land. WIN WIN! The newest issue that dropped this week was very cool. Lots of Archangel and Psylocke stuff. DP made me laugh a few times!
Avengers wrapped up the Gauntlet arc really nicely and tied things up from Bendis’ Illuminati comic. I liked that JRjr didn’t draw that fugly Watcher again. I think he was trying to make the Watcher look the way Bendis does in real life as a joke of sorts. Not that Bendis is ugly, but that Watcher was… Let’s pray that Bendis’ kids and Oatu’s kids never mate oooh…
Best read for me this week was Wolverine!
Wolverine
[details=Spoiler]Some characters went into Wolverine’s mind and Emma Frost opened a door marked ‘Sexual Fantasies.’ Behind the door she saw herself in her Hellfire Club outfit, Mystique, Psylocke, Spiral and… SQUIRREL GIRL!!! WOLVIE’S A FREAK DAMN!!!
Jean Grey showed up, but it was the menal image Wolverine had of Jean Grey in his mind and not the actual one. She was wearing the white / yellow Phoenix Outfit from Pak’s End Song story. It’s an alternate outfit for Phoenix in MvC3 too heh! :lovin:
Nightcrawler showed up in his brain too but it wasn’t very clear if he was just in Wolverine’s mind or if he was coming from heaven and paying a visit to Wolverine’s brain. The book strongly hinted at the later towards the end. I liked the way Aaron played this one. I hate it when characters who are ‘dead’ show up in heaven or the afterlife in some way but then when they ‘come back to life’ it turns out that they never died in the first place. Aaron played it pretty smart here, so if they ever do reveal that NC didn’t really croak then it would just be NC in his mind in this story. Very nice.[/details]
Yeah, Uncanny X-Force just keeps getting better and better. I was expecting it to be the run of the mill action dealie but it continues to surprise me every issue.
Journey into Mystery was good. I’m glad writers are keeping up with the characterization of Loki trying to break the cycle.
Eh you fellas can enjoy your X-Force, Thunderbolts has been the book for me for the longest time now. …and now they may be adding more to their numbers, so far it seems the Shocker might make it in.
…but man Ultimate Spiderman…FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
]THEY KILLED DOC OCK! He was my fav. character in the book and now he’s dead, damnit Osborn! Other than that it’s been a fun read[/spoiler
[details=Spoiler]
Avengers vs. Ultimates 3 was action packed and I enjoyed it for the most part.
young avengers #5-
[spoiler=]So what have they changed the past? Is Cassie’s dad going to be alive when they return to their time?[/details]
Ultimate Captain America #4-
Eh I thought it was a nice end to the book, though the whole ‘miracle’ thing…nah I’ll just stick with it being goshdarn luck.
Annhilators #2-
So is this book supposed to be a swan song to Rom the Space Knight? I’ve never read that series but it seems like the villains in this series are from it.
Fear Itself #1-
So uh…WTF is going on and why is Odin such a dick?
Ruse #1-
Looks like Marvel owns the Crossgen titles, and have decided to continue some of them. Ruse just so happens to be one of them. Ruse is a Sherlock Holmes type series written by Mark Waid, and this issue was very good IMO. Looking forward to the next one, and I’m hoping they’ll release collected TPBs of the older Crossgen series.
New Avengers #12-
Bullets: Dr. Strange’s greatest weakness.
[details=Spoiler]Last page was such a cliffhanger. Thing’s moment in the bar was also hilarious.
Is it me or is Doom envious of Thing? He can never stop mocking him[/details]
Spectacular Spidey #1000-
OK yeah I don’t know about you guys but why Spidey would Tag with Punisher instead of say tie-ing him up to keep him from killing people or for the police is beyond me. Spidey and Punisher team up just doesn’t work for me.
Co-sign with Spidey. I guess the only reason the solicit for it was ‘classified’ was to stop the leak of Spidey joining the FF three months in advance. There’s a twist at the end but nothing special that needed the classified solicit. Good comic though.

I hope Carlie does get that Green Goblin tattoo so Peter Parker can dump her. As a matter of fact, she should get it right on her left cheek so artists will not like drawing her and we can see her less and less.
Age of X wrapped and the second Age of X Universe book came out too. Great crossover! The entire thing was only 9 issues and I can say I got the entire thing! :clapdos: Looking forward to the fall out of this event in X-Men Legacy.
Well my overall impression on the Thor movie was that it was good but I felt it needed more scenes. For one thing
]Thor opening up to non-Asgardians is a bit odd when you compare the Midgardians to the Frost Giants, then again he did learn humility and as such it tempered him[/spoiler
The Avengers cartoon is great, but I can understand if the art style/character designs would put someone off. I myself have some gripes with them.
…but other than that it’s a very good show.
