Yeah, the Silver Surfer series coming out this week is a mini. I don’t think Marvel has much faith in a Silver Surfer ongoing after his last long run that ended in the 90s. To be honest, I’m still on the fence on whether or not I want to buy it. While I love Greg Pak and Silver Surfer, I’m just a bit leery about it after the way Pak handled Surfer in Planet Hulk. There hasn’t been much development of the Surfer since the first Annihilation, so this should be the first time we get more about his feelings about becoming a herald again (I personally did not like making Surfer Galactus’s herald again, it felt like a step back for the character).
Annihilators #1 hasn’t come out yet as far as I know (should be in March), which is funny because it’s been talked about since December or so. This is actually another book I’m uncertain of just because the cast seems so strong! Guardians of the Galaxy was fun because it was a bunch of rag tag “cosmic heroes.” I do have faith in DnA though, so I might pick this up.
PS: I am not digging that Fantastic Foundation look for Spider-Man. Thank god that costume did not make it into MvC3. Bad enough my non-comic book friends said Spidey’s new costume he used to fight Hobgoblin was what Spidey wears to a rave lol.
Hey remember when we were talking a while back about Uncanny X-Force dealing with the ramifications of the decision made last issue? Well they actually did this week. Surprising, I too thought that it would be forgotten. Didn’t feel like that kind of book. Seems like Deadpool had the most trouble with said decision which was another nice surprise.
Dug Loki, SHIELD, Wolverine and the ASM .1 issue. Fun week!
The comic that came with the pre-order of MvC3 had some funny dialog between Deadpool and Dante. Awesome game BTW!
Yeah, I was surprised they dealt with it too. Though Fantomex wasn’t in the mix. Remender took Deadpool out of character for that one but I don’t mind because I don’t like Deadpool anyway. I thought Deadpool not cashing Warren’s checks was equally surprising. Do you think he’ll stay on the team or will he be replaced by Dethlok?
Loki was great. The teaser for next issue’s cover is probably going to be the best cover art of the year.
In S.H.I.E.L.D. #5 and #6, that is Kosmos caring for Tesla right?
I hope Spider-Man not having spider sense doesn’t last long.
Oh and between Avengers Academy and I Am An Avenger, they’re making Quicksilver pretty likable. Next to die?
I doubt Deadpool will leave since he’s going through a Wolverine “I’m in ten books every month” phase. Could be wrong though.
It might be Kosmos, looks like her. Not sure. Might be way too early for Kosmos to show up especially if we are talking about her hanging out with Iron Man’s and Mr Fantastic’s dads. Still with godlike characters you never know.
I’m curious who the creative teams will be. Bendis/Maleev has a certain pedigree that would be tough to match. Brubaker/Lark on The Punisher would be pretty great. I could see that being a hardcore book even without the MAX label. Ennis/Dillon on Daredevil would be unlikely, though. I doubt Ennis would be interested in writing a Daredevil series. Dillon’s probably being kept busy on PunisherMAX with Jason Aaron.
Realistically, I’d guess that Mark Millar is writing one of the titles, or perhaps one of their newer wave of talents like Aaron, Matt Fraction, or Jonathan Hickman.
Probably won’t be Brubaker since he’s dropping Secret Avengers as it is (issue 12 is his last issue). You know, after hearing Daniel Way is taking a shot at Astonishing X-Men (since Astonishing is supposed to be for top writers and artists who can’t keep a monthly), nothing would surprise me.
So Astonishing X-Men went from Warren Ellis to Daniel Way? I’m in awe. Has there ever been a steeper dropoff in talent in the history of comics? This is like trading Pau Gasol for Kwame Brown.
Comic books should be more like fantasy sports. Fans should be able to veto a switch in creative teams.
you know that would be interesting, like if there was an ongoing “All Stars” line that was all creative teams voted by fans. There would obviously have to be a pool of available talent to vote on (ie so jim lee isnt drawing every title). I think that would be cool
Spidey .1 was good, surprisingly I actually like Flash as Venom. Him losing control of the symbiote when hit with the grenade was a nice touch.
Wolverine & Jubilee
Spoiler
Wolverine & Jubilee was better than I expected since I dislike Jubilee altogether and the vampire deal is kinda lame. The interaction between the two is pretty good though and made it an enjoyable read.
Wolverine
Spoiler
Wolverine’s solo book got better. I was not a fan of the Logan goes to Hell story at all, but them trying to exorcise him unsuccessfully is getting interesting. Scott’s simulation of how to take him down was a major high point. Mags rips the adamantium from his bones again, followed by Namor ripping his head off of his shoulders and Scott toasting the torso. I love it, and it looks like they are actually going to take him down in that way next issue.
Thunderbolts
Spoiler
Probably my favorite read this weekend. High point in the book since Luke Cage took over the program. Juggs saved the girls from drowning and Ghost gave them mouth-to-mouth. Then Juggs going toe-to-toe with Hyperion was a great fight. Ghost tells Moonstone after she wakes up that Juggs is over there getting killed by Hyperion, and she starts to walk away, but he’s like “But he’s one of us.” Seeing them all take him down as a solid team for once was good stuff. It seems like the whole reformed criminal idea of the Thunderbolts program is actually paying off.
As for the Amazing Spider-Man movie, I’m on the fence about the costume still. I LOVE the web shooters, and the costume looks good in promotional material, but until I see a trailer I’m undecided because some of the shots from the set look terrible. I still think he looks like a basketball up close lol.
Edit: Cant believe I forgot my favorite of the week.
Avengers Academy
Spoiler
Finesse and Taskmaster story was really good. I’m a big fan of Taskmaster, and hadn’t put the two and two together that she might be his kid. Him fighting her to try and remember her was pretty deep since he has the memory issues. Kinda sad that he couldn’t even remember her moves cuz they are all somebody elses just like his.
I don’t know, Secret Avengers kind of seemed like one of Brubaker’s babies since it was a book he could write about Steve and his “G.I. Joes.” Why would he give up a book he is enjoying unless it’s to pick up an even better book. Is it even possible for Brubaker to enjoy any book more than one with either Steve or Bucky?
