NeREMIXED - Hate to be the one to tell you but Wolverine and the X-Men is not continuing either. They had a fall out with negotiations with a company working on the cartoon. That’s the only reason. Strange but true.
god dammitt!!!
Finally got Thanos Imperative #1 and you guys remember that i said that Cosmic continuity is much better than regular Bendis Continuity… Well that issue didn’t prove me wrong
Also whats stronger than 3 men? ONE GORILLA
So for anyone else who read Bendis’ Avengers so far, what’re your thoughts on them? I’ve enjoyed the 2 new teams so far.
Thanos Imperative Ignition and #1 is great, although as of this moment the whole plot seems reminiscent of Annihilation (at least in premise) The Thanos factor adds an enigmatic approach to it
Still loving on Invincible Iron Man
Still loving Avengers and AM GLAD they are now Marvel’s franchise team instead of the X-men
Still plan to read S.H.I.E.L.D. and secret warriors i hear hickman is also every bit as good as brubaker and fraction (which some people argue are better than Bendis nowadays)
I plan on giving at least Astonishing X-men a shot since I hear some good reviews and my cousin has all of em’ but let me make one thing clear
- How Emma became Cykes Love interest… Don’t care
- How was Xorn retconned into a separate character than Magneto… Don’t care
- How was storm married to the Black Panther… Don’t Care
- Who Hope is and how she came into being… Well I do know since I read Messiah Complex, but even if i didn’t… Won’t Care
What has always Bothered me with the X-community is taht they are wayy too continuity-oriented… what happened to who, who screwed who, Wolverine does this to that and yadada yadda.
At least for me bottomline is as long as the story is Good… Don’t care about anything else, maybe it’s something I would Wiki about (i.e. what the deal was then between two Psylockes) But I wouldn’t waste in-depth conversation unless it has to do with my satisfaction with the story, since for me
Story > Continuity
Plot (structural Plot not character-driven plot) > Characterization
Planning on collecting the Iron Man Trades what I do know is that the essentials are
Origin of Iron Man
Armor Wars (Including the Prelude trade and Armor wars 2) AKA Stark Wars
Demon in a Bottle (Previosuly known as "The Power of Iron Man)
Iron Man and Doctor Doom stories
Extremis
The Five Nightmares
World’s Most Wanted
Stark Dissasembled
Stark Resilient.
I Lost Interest In Spidey after OMD (sorry i never recovered) and now comes OMIT which arouses people’s “Bile Fascination” to buy it just to see how it goes, nope wouldn’t waste my money.
Astonishing X-Men is really easy to read even you are not familiar with X-Men continuity. In the Omnibus there’s a huge entry, about 5 pages long or so that tells you the entire history of X-Men anyway. You should also read New X-Men though, which is even more new reader friendly. Not for continuity reasons, just because it is good.
Even if you haven’t read New X-Men Cyke and Emma’s relationship comes off as being really believable and they deal with Jean Grey’s passing in the story. Unless you want to know everything about how they started dating you can pretty much get the gist of it. Astonishing for me REALLY made Cyke the bad ass he is right now. I always liked Cyke, but nowadays I REALLY like Cyke.
I think the only things that might throw someone is with regards to Magneto’s death because in the book they say he’s dead but later on they imply Mags helps them out, if you are not familiar with the Xorneto retcon that might throw you for a loop unless you just draw a conclusion like “No one really dies in X-Men” which you probably will and you’ll be fine.
Than there’s Spider-Man’s Civil War comment, only because Marvel later decided that the entire arc happens during some 2 week period way before Civil War, pre House of M… but he says something along the lines of “All us heroes get together and are not Civil Waring…” and you can easily take that as a jab to however many times the heroes have fought each other. Storm’s marital situation doesn’t matter because she shows up briefly in Astonishing.
Gotta say Astonishing is pretty new reader friendly all of that aside. There’s an afterward in the Omnibus where Brian K. Vaughan says the book is as new reader friendly as X-Men can get and who am I to argue with him.
There are people who thinks that Bendis is better than Bru and Fraction?
I was a OMD hater too(still am lol), but ever since the American Son arc I’ve been digging post OMD Spidey stories so that might be something to check out and see if you can deal. I don’t really wanna read OMIT. Just got over some Joe Q shit and I don’t really want to deal with more Joe Q shit lol. Meh.
And Astonishing and New X-Men are well worth the reads, I really need to pick up some New X-Men trades one day.
I’ve read american son as well but it didn’t blow me away… same situation with Utopia… Iron Man’s “World’s most Wanted” arc is probably the only Dark-Reign related event that I really liked…
I am really willing to give Astonishing a chance but it’s really low priority for me as The Thanos Imperative, Avengers, and Fraction’s Iron Man all come first.
BTW Just read Shield and Holy F*cking Awesome concept… kinda reminds me of an RPG setting but with the surrealism of having real historical industrial revolutionists in there and I’m curious how this supposed origin story ties up with the SHIELD we know.
My minor gripes with Marvel comics these days though as it just takes typically me 5-6 minutes to read a comic (except for the Brubaker and fraction ones) and too much large panels and visual oomph it kinda detracts from “The crowning moments of awesome” if analyzed collectively.
What X men book I should start reading, almost done with New X men also I wanted to start reading some Spiderman also even though I’ve been reading USM but I’m not feeling the flipping the characters and the stories around.
Brubaker’s Captain America is also freaking awesome… Even the entire shift from Rogers to Bucky is a welcome. just read all the trades until Reborn
I gotta say the best marvel titles (for me at least)
- Invincible Iron Man
- Captain America
- Cosmic Marvel
- Avengers
Secret Warriors Agent of Atlas and Fantastic Four are all a level above the Avengers title IMHO
If you are talking about monthlies both Avengers and New Avengers just restarted so those are great jumping on points. And Spidey and Wolvie are in both heh.
For X-Men you should wait until Second Coming ends and check out X-Men Legacy.
Where Amazing Spider-Man is concerned there ‘MAY’ be an announcement at the San Diego Comic Con that Slott might become the only writer after that O.M.I.T garbage lol and it will go bimonthly. If that RUMOR is true that will be a much better jumping on point than ASM ATM. Hey acronym pun! :clown:
If you are talking about TPBs and such you should check out Astonishing X-Men and you can just read the last few posts in this thread for a bunch of reasons why.
For Spider-Man, if you have nothing against prose books (all words and no artwork) I’d strongly recommend The Darkest Hours by Jim Butcher of the Dresden Files fame. It flows out of events from JMS’ run but it’s very easy to follow along. One of the best Spidey stories I’ve ever read and hell one of the best books I’ve ever read PERIOD.
@ Sano… It’s a good thing IMO if ASM is reducing publishing periods… IMO it really overexposes spidey and one of the reasons I see Marvel doing it was to beat the DC titles’ Superman, Batman, Action Comics, Detective Comics in reaching the issue #1000 mark.
I have a few issues of Agents of Atlas but I haven’t started yet (I can’t read eveyrthing I also have just the same sh*tload amount of DC titles that I read as well) but after the recommendation I’d guess I better dig them up (I think it was the first four issues)
Anyone here know if the current Moon Knight title is good? I found issue #9 recently and didn’t know he was getting his own comic again, looks like a fun read.
Also when is that Frankencastle BS and terrible War of the Hulks stuff over with? I want to read Punisher and Hulk without all the crap.
FrankenCastle is awesome
Beside you got Punisher Max
Lol Most people might not have been satisfied with World War Hulks but I enjoyed issue 610…
[details=Spoiler]the spread page of him “coming back” was definetely a “Crowning moment of awesome” with the next page (the last page) Had Skaar say “at last” but unless this is the dumb savage version, he’ll have his arse handed to him…
Here’s me wishing it’s the Green Scar (World Breaker is he’s really pissed) version (No Hulk is stronger than the world breaker version in brute strength… not even the Maestro)[/details]
The Black Panther cartoon is coming on June 23rd. It will be offered digitally as opposed to being on BET. XBox Live, Itunes and Playstation Network will carry it.
I’m still pissed that Disney had something to do with Season 2 of Wolverine & the XMen.For Disney to say they weren’t going to be involved with Marvel’s characters I’ll be damned they did.
I started to get that issue but I went ahead & read it at the store. They should’ve went in-depth about Betty becoming Red She-Hulk though
