Man it just seems like all of comics is just ALL SKILL now a days.
I mean are these guys seriously thinking the stuff they are putting out is great?
Whenever I read something that is stupid, I always think of THE BATMAN.
I guess I call this THE BATMAN THEORY.
It’s all based on THE BATMAN cartoon, and me imagining the creators sitting there at meetings showing each other sketches of the new retard joker/other characters and being like “WHOA MAN, that is AWESOME!, you know what else would be great? MAKING IT ANIME AS FUCK!”
And then the Producer just walks in and says “So did you guys NOT watch those Batman TAS DVDs I sent you!??”
Creative team - “NOPE!, we’ve never, and WILL never, EVER, watch that show!”
Producer - “Great, keep up the good work. Remember, make it anime as fuck!”
Creative team - “We’re way ahead of you boss!”
Producer - “EXTREME! REMEMBER TO MAKE IT DYNAMIC WITH LOTS OF ENERGY!”
Anime/Manga has ruined the next generation of artists/writers like Michael Jordan ruined the latest generation of basketball players.
Granted, those guys are all probably working hard, and doing their thing, but just because you are working hard doesn’t mean your work is good.
And this concludes VS’s thoughts on the greater comic/art/writing community right now.
I will go back and wait for the next fables trade ( ALL FLY CATCHER BABY!!! ) in grumpy old man peace.
By the hoary hosts of Hoggoth. Whenever I think of THE BATMAN, I think of Blanka and that zombie guitarist from DarkStalkers making love to eventually give birth to THE JOKER.
It’s true, though, that comics is ALL SKILL nowadays. I blame that on Crisis.
ALL SKILL, BABY = Dr. Light raping someone
ALL SKILL, BABY = Superboy Prime punching the very walls of continuity itself
ALL SKILL, BABY = Green Lantern throwing a punch with his ring hand at Deathstroke, the Terminator
Damn straight, Painy. I don’t know if you’re talking about the last few Johns issues after Identity Crisis or the recent Bart debacle after Infinite Crisis, but either way… Damn straight.
Actually I thought they handled that scene pretty well. Trauma’s ability is to take on the form of his opponent’s greatest fear. When confronted by the Hulk literally kept flashing between various forms, because the Hulk (possibly because of his multiple personality issues) has more than one fear. But obviously unlike other individuals, doesn’t allow it to cripple him thus the beat down that followed.
That is great, Ragey. Buying all five at once? That’s hardcore right there, man. You just gained about 87 points on my respect ladder. Keep up the good work, my man. Don’t forget to report back in P.Gabby’s TPB thread when you’re finished.
So here I am reading Mike Carey’s X Men run right?
First six issues is great, then something terrible happens…
HUMBERTO RAMOS IS A TERRIBLE ARTIST.
Why did they take Chris Bachalo off the book? They ruined a potentially amazing run. Everyone has spikey hair and aw god, it’s just a mess.
It’s really sad too because Mike Carey is doing his damnest to make this readable, but the art is just so very very bad.
God bless you Mr Carey, I’m proud of you for making Iceman a beast. Too bad Humberto is doing his best to make that beastliness look as horrible as possible.
Well now you can be very very very happy for Humberto because he’s leaving soon if I’m correct…but then he’s joing Runaways so be very very sad for that now.
So far all of the evidence post One More Day is pointing to them doing a reboot, making it so Spider-Man never got married in the first place.
Joe Quesada has said many times that as much as he hates the marriage he will never kill MJ or make Spider-Man a divorcee, he wants to preserve the youth of this 44 year old character and both of those things will age him. This is the same reason why he won’t let Spidey and MJ have any kids.
Psst, Joe, Spider-Man’s 30 years old, not 22 like he’d have you believe… JQ says the Marvel Universe is only 7 years old from the time Cap woke up from the ice, the X-Men formed, Spidey got his powers, the Fantastic Four began - 7 years. Um, yeah how about no. Bear minimum 10 and even 15 is being a bit generous.
After One More Day the new writers have said that it will go back to being a soap opera.
His web shooters will be back. How does that happen without a reboot? Unless that time in One More Day where he webs up Iron Man seen in the preview he actually waists all of his organic webbing.
MJ will be Jackpot and certain things Marvel has said has lead people to believe that his FCBD story will be a 616 story now.
One of the writers before he signed on said a condition for him to come back to writing was that they don’t bring Gwen Stacy back to life. So we know that they are going to create a situation where that is possible.
Lots of hints and so on from Marvel that the marriage is doomed after One More Day.
There’s a lot more stuff too, this is off the top of my head.
How will this happen? Who knows, Marvel’s keeping tight lippes about it. Best theory I’ve heard is that to save Aunt May Spider-Man will go to Dr. Strange and make a wish that no one ever found out his secret identity. That makes it so Mary Jane never knew he was Spider-Man so they never get married. But, it’s just a theory no one knows what exactly is going to happen…
There’s lots of other things pointing in this direction, that they are gonna do an Infinite Crisis style reset for Spider-Man rewinding him 20 years in the past.
HOWEVER this may all be misdirection on Marvel’s part. There’s a poll at Newsarama, last I checked about 7,000 people want him to stay married, 1,000 want him seperated. Even over at Marvel’s boards people are very upset about this move. Many people like myself are gonna drop all 616 Spidey books if this happens and some say they may drop all Marvel books if this occurs. Marvel has to be aware of all of this. So they may be screwing with us big time. Even at the Chicago Con people kept bugging JQ about the marriage at the Marvel panel from what I hear.
Oh and Amazing will ship three times a month, no Sensational or Spidey, just Amazing. Many of the stories will take place in 3 arcs, kind of like what 52 is doing or what Superman has done lots of times in the past, or what One More Day is gonna do - you have to buy all issues to get the one story. But there will be self contained stories too once in a while. Hmmm, no real incentive for me to pick up the three titles after One More Day sorry… I’ll stick to Spidey Loves MJ and New Avengers unless Bendis rams single Spidey down my throat. Ah well this is why I got the Amazing Spider-Man the Complete Collection on DVD-Rom so I can get my Spidey fix just in case they mess Spidey up. I got one more issue to rap up reading 1963, 42 more years to go. :lovin:
Is Joe Quesada right? I mean, both times they tried to do away with the marriage it has backfired against them - the Clone Saga and the death of MJ. Will this be the time it finally sticks? Oh well if it doesn’t work by the very nature of a reboot you can always put things back.
Anyway…
Kingpin vs. Spider-Man - I commented on this before but shyeah right. I’ve seen Kingpin go toe to toe against Spider-Man. I’m not saying Spider-Man couldn’t win but that easily? I think not. Well, I’m just gonna attribute it to Spidey’s latest power boost - what was it, five, ten more tons - and pretend that someone cares about his new powers. I still haven’t seen Spidey see in the dark or communicate with Spiders after the other but ah well what can you do… after One More Day who knows maybe they’ll say he never had these powers anyway… I mean we know the organic webs are gone…
EDIT: Most of the information of what’s going on with Spidey post One More Day is stuff I’ve read at Newsarama. There’s way too many links for me to find everything however this thread will give you a crash course on the situation if you read through it. Now it’s over 8,000 peeps that want Pete and MJ to stay married, sigh…
Because I haven’t talked about Spidey enough - - just read the first issue of One More Day. It was actually written very well despite the fact that I don’t like where the story may be going. Gonna miss JMS on Spidey, not as much as PAD but still…
Man, it seems like Joe Q won’t be happy until he’s successfully effed up the Spideyverse. And what fag said he won’t come on until Gwen is brought back? She’s freaking dead! Get over it! A complete Spidey reboot? At the cost of messing up the marriage and bringing back Gwen? I don’t like the sound of that. Gwen was a nice chick but every time Peter had to turn into Spidey Gwen got all emo and whiney. I wanted to jump through those pages and kick her in the face wearing a pair of golf shoes! MJ > Gwen. If the Goblin hadn’t dumped her crying, cheating butt of that bridge, she wouldn’t even had the status she has in comics today. For a dead chick, she’s more alive than most people that are actually alive!!
Joe Q, if this gets messed up. In the words of Handbanna “Tonight… you.”
Sounds good. I’m picking the book up tomorrow along with some older ASM I’m behind on.
Reggie - Think we misunderstood each other. The writer said that he would only sign on if Gwen Stacy was not coming back. So Gwen Stacy is not coming back. That clone that looks like her on the loose in the US, that daughter that looks exactly like her, those multiple clones of Gwen Stacy that Deadpool knows, don’t know about them. :looney:
Kane - I dunno, Red Sonja possessing MJ twice already as if there may be a relation / reincarnation thing between the two, once this year even kinda sorta makes her being a Skrull kind of funny… Not that it still can’t happen of course and they could just ignore all of that, JQ might not give a crap. Still, Red Sonja was part of 616 back when Conan was, the newer crossover still says the same thing - that she’s still part of it. Also has to do with the new Red Sonja comic not rejecting the older Marvel stuff like the current G.I.Joe comic doesn’t and the IDW Transformers and the new Conan do. Well, just makes the Skrull thing iffy to me…
Slight spoiler about One More Day - Even after webbing up Iron Man he still has organic webs, so no he didn’t run out of them. I mean, I really don’t see a logical way for them to go back to web shooters without a retcon. I prefer web shooters to organic webs but going back to them makes no sense. Didn’t make any difference because even when he had the web shooters I can’t remember the last time he ran out of web fluid anyway… Maybe around the Michelinie days…
EDIT: Wizard’s interesting this month. You see a bunch of views from Marvel writers past and present about what they think about the marriage. No clues as to what is going to happen though other than the usual splitsville clues, but it’s a good read.
I don’t think Ramos is a bad artist. He’s just a homeless man’s Chris Bachalo. It’s just the tone of X-Men doesn’t jibe too well with Ramos’ style. I was looking at his Runaways art from the Runaways Saga issue and that looked good.
Carey’s X-Men is sort of dense. Lots of things are happening, but I think Ramos’ ULTRA HIP, SPIKY COOL characters and sets are mucking up the pacing. It’s a lot different than Bachalo’s art because even though Bachalo’s stuff can have some confusing layouts, usually when you examine them for a bit, you can make sense of them. And I dig that sometimes, especially in an X-Men comic where you have all these crazy characters doing all sorts of crazy crap- it makes you read it a little slower and think about shit.
Guess Tasky hated it, but I really liked Requiem. It’s not gonna set the world on fire or anything, but the writing was solid. The introspective tone suits the Surfer, especially seeing as how it was only 4 issues. Overall, I’d say it’s the sort of thing I would like to see more of from Marvel Knights. The biggest thing I didn’t like about it was the price. It was damn 4 bucks an issue. The inevitable hardcover will probably not be worth paying full price, either.
One More Day wasn’t so bad. The story was wordy at the beginning of the issue but as the plot picked up, it got pretty interesting. Spidey’s motivations just make sense to me, and his confrontation with Iron Man (as well as the consequences) were easy for me to buy into as well.
Also, all y’all Gwen Stacy haters are out of your minds. The whole reason she’s indisputably Peter Parker’s One True Love is BECAUSE she is dead. That ain’t no reason to be hating on her. It’s a reason to love her more, because as long as MJ’s still alive, she will always rate below a corpse.
