Marvel Comics Thread

You’re joking right? Thor sucks. I actually like Thor too. So it pisses me off that all he does is well nothing and everyone just talks all the time. Issue 600 was pretty cool but comics like that are few and far between.

Trade-waiting Punisher. I always wanted to get into his character, but really did not like any of those Max Ennis crap.

What? WHAT? Thor is one of the only two Marvel books I really care about anymore (other of course being Deadpool). The book is just attempting to do some decent character development and world building, which you can’t do with pure action. Thor is capable of so much more than smashing, and it’s a shame that people seem to think otherwise. The stories are brilliantly tied together, the characterization is wonderful, and Copiel’s art is BAR NONE the best I’ve seen in the industry. If Marvel, nay, the entire superhero comic industry, had more books like Thor, I think we’d be far better off.

I say thee nay, sir. I SAY THEE NAY!

IP ban him Sano

Yeah, seriously. That’s the dumbest thing I’ve read on SRK all week.

im so happy pak is going to be writing hulk again
it felt so good to take loeb out of my file and replace it with quality

You mean building a plot setting up a great scheme connecting everything just right and when action is needed its coming in grand
Not to mention great dialouges character devlopment in a great pace
And all this with superb art probaly the best comic drawing that Marvel got at the moment

Thor is the best marvel book coming out right now you dont need smashing and action all the time to make a book good, and Thor is the perfect example
The only bad thing about Thor is the fact that it’s a bi-monthly or sometimes even worse (602 next week BTW)

Who said pure action? It shouldn’t take an anniversary issue to see a comic super hero battle in a comic book.

Yeah he can fly, and teleport and do a whole bunch of cool stuff though you’d never know it since everybody else is yapping all the time.

What do you mean by stories? In the 2 years since the new release here’s what’s happened:

-Thor looks for Asgardians
-Thor beats up Iron Man (surprisingly in only one issue)
-Thor gets kicked out of Asgard for killing his ancestor

The comic isn’t total garbage. The artwork has been quality except for the covers which have sucked but I won’t go there. Other than that the stories (use that term loosely) are too long winded. Coipel’s gone now so the comic’s only going to get worse.

Isn’t the writers initials JMS? It should be more like PMS because he writes like a woman. More should’ve gotten done in 2 years. This is one of the worst examples of decompression for comics out there. Even Bendis would have gotten more done in this time.

On a comic that doesn’t even come out every month. Someone explain to me why that’s the case. This comic has Walt Simonson and Stan Lee rolling in their graves right now.

 Dude don’t you get it? Most every Marvel book is like Thor right now. Except Thor comes out half the time and fittingly has half the action (though it’s probably less than that).

I say thee nay, sir. I SAY THEE NAY!

Says the person with a Thor avatar. No bias there. If you’re the fan you claim to be I hope you’ve read stuff from Simonson and Lee/Kirby. If you can’t find the issues they’re in Thor Visionaries and Essential Thor.

Those Thor Comics that came out last year Ages of Thunder, Reign in Blood and some other one that I can’t remember right now are 1000 times better than the delayed decompressed fluff written by PMS (exception being Thor 600 which was admittedly good.)

To be fair to JMS, he’s slowly building the story up just so he could just walk away from it later on when he writes himself into the corner.

What other books has Coipiel worked on?
For the longest time I thought him and Jimmy Cheung were the same, I gotta check out his other stuff.

Punisher #6- Good, and I really like the villains used in this story, too bad they’ll be killed

DR: Young Avengers #2- OK issue, end was a little surprising

Cable #15- Good action packed issue, with a huge gun

Lyra #3 (She-Hulk)- A really good issue, especially if you’re a NohVarr fan I think. Good action, beautiful art (IMO) and the ending was a true shocker O_o

Also it seems Marvel will release a comic adaption of The Marvelous Land of Oz this Winter!

Marvel Zombies 4 #3- MAN-THING!!!

Invincible Ironman #14- OK issue, ending was a bit odd though…also “Go to hell and don’t come back”

Mighty Avengers #26- Herc Smash! …but man I wish there were a little more fight scenes :frowning:

Overall good comic week.

truthfully i liked what oeming was doing when he was writing

They say that he wrote Blood Oath which was very good but I’m skeptical. Basically everything (else?) that he’s written has been horrible. Maybe every writer does have at least one good story in them.

House of M
Avengers Red Zone

It’s called “Building an Epic”. JMS is essentially writing the Lord of the Rings of Thor stories, only minus half the bullshit. Each issue feels like it’s building to something big. Essentially, he has his own little section of the Marvel U staked out to play with, relatively free of tie ins and editorial mandates, so he can tell a large story on his own terms. This is VERY different from the rest of the Marvel U, where each story has to be connected to the current events of the Marvel U, and as such feel forced and gives us unnecessary shit like “Dark X-Men”.

And if Bendis were writing this, everybody would be dropping f-bombs every 3 panels, and Luke Cage would be in it for no damn reason.

swears are more loebish than anything imho

Agreed, but Bendis tends to use them fairly often as well.

It’s not that I dislike Bendis. At its best, New Avengers is quite good, and I don’t think I need to say that Ultimate Spider-Man has been single handedly justifying the Ultimate U for the past 2 years now. It’s just that I don’t think he’s the man to write Thor. When he was writing Thor during Secret Invasion, it felt off.

I’m not going to comapre between the two bit as a Thor fan i’m trying to get my hand on whatever i can
You wanna talk stories
-Thor looks for Asgardians
-Thor beats up Iron Man (surprisingly in only one issue)
-**Thor gets kicked out of Asgard for killing his ancestor **
What about how he got kicked out of Asgard that’s the beuty of the story the all plotting and scheming from Loki, try to re-read the story up until 600 and how Loki was building up his plot to get rid of Thor, Putting Balder in the throne nad becoming his advisor going back in time to set up the all Bor vs Thor fight
I don’t care about the fact that it took 13 issues for a big superhero fight as long as the fight had a great set up and wasn’t totally random and beacuse the setup was so good it gave the fight even more of an epic feeling
Like is said you can’t say that a comic is good or bad just beacuse of the number of fights it got
If i needed senseless action i would go and read Loeb crap

It’s good to know that 400 years in a metal crate didn’t dull Deadpool’s great attitude. Still, what a jerk, not giving 2 weeks notice.

Relax guy. It’s a comic book, not the Iliad (though that had more action). You’re acting like this is the greatest comic ever or something. Epic storylines have been around in comics forever yet somehow they weren’t as boring and had more action than Thor. However is that possible? You can have **dialogue and action ** in a comic book. They aren’t mutually exclusive. Why can’t you guys realize this?
