Marvel Comics Thread

I can’t get over the basic idea of Dark Reign, which is the the stupidity of Norman Osborne ruling the world now. Like I understand these are superhero comics and that I need to suspend some level of disbelief…but I mean…MOTHERFUCKER WAS THE GREEN GOBLIN!!!

Are there like any rational, normal people living the Marvel Universe? Wouldn’t you be like…“What the fuck, the Green Goblin is running SHIELD now? Well that’s not smart - whose idea was this?”

And then of course he’s evil and meets with all the evil people and they take over everything so very evilily. Meh.

I did get a kick out of Dark Avengers #1 though, just because it’s always kind of fun at the beginning when you kind of reimagine characters and fit new guys into old archetypes and stuff - like Damian as the new Wolverine’s neat, Bullseye as Hawkeye’s a great idea, Moonstone as Ms. Marvel, etc. Same reason why all Ultimate type books are really fun for the first couple of issues no matter how insane those books eventually become.

And yes, I have to agree…the greatest things that the Marvel Universe have ever produced all include some sort of Dr. Doom/Namor team-up, so I can’t complain about that. It’s like Chris Farley and David Spade - both fun on their own (one more than the other) but together greater than the sum of the parts.

Yeah, I just compared Dr. Doom to Chris Farley, ante up, son.

This is what I’m saying you’d say!

It just flows so weirdly now - you had like 12 or whatever issues of this ridiculously slow build up of Loki’s evil plan and whatnot, and finally you’re here. It’s the big payoff that the entire series has been building up to so far - and so far it’s been pretty much 100% Thor.

Which is what’s been so good about this run so far, I think - it’s that it’s largely just about Thor being Thor, and it’s refreshing to get back to that separation between him and the rest of the superheroes. Dude is a GOD, he should being doing you know, like GODLY things, and chilling with his other GOD buddies. Not breaking up bank robberies and teaming up with Spidey.

So aside from the two obligatory parts with Iron Man (where Thor just kicks his ass, which again goes back to that idea that as a GOD, he’s just a league above these guys) and Cap’s death (hmph something in my eye…) the series has been essentially untouched by the happenings of the wacky Marvel Universe as a whole.

And that’s the way the book should be.

But then in the penultimate issue, where it comes together…cheap Dark Avengers cameo. And they were doing so well, too. Contributes nothing to the story - it’s just distracting and gets in the way of the story. Cheapens it as a whole, like these loser guys are getting in the way of a GOD vs. GOD fight here, what the hell is Mac Gargan doing in the middle of an multi-generational Odinforce showdown?

Like the Batgirl story - she’s in the middle of looking for Lady Shiva and trying to figure out if she’s her mother or not…and then pause, fight some OMAC guys for three panels…aaaaand resume story. It’s just dumb.

Didn’t Logan get mindcontrolled by HYDRA or such in one of his storylines? …and yet he is welcome by the Governess or San Fran.

Don’t forget that when Norman Osborn came back to life a few years back he took over the Daily Bugle for a while. And right now he has a lot of influence over the current version of the Daily Bugle, the DB. He’s been able to manipulate public opinion about him for years, the same way Lex Luthor does (who became President of the United States). You throw enough money around you can alter public perception. “The Goblin serum made me do it here’s a hundred thousand dollars for your charity.” “You know that Norman Osborn is a nice fellow.”

Though yeah running the Thunderbolts successfully and getting the kill shot in Secret Invasion pretty much cemented things. No one, even the civilians in the Marvel Universe think he’s a saint, but he’s the strong hand that the people want now after the Civil War and Secret Invasion catastrophes. They know when stuff gets rough Norman doesn’t take crap from anyone and will be there sans powers to blow someone’s brains out. Probably one of the reasons why Bush Jr. beat out Kerry…

I almost hate to do all of the owning of your face I’m about to do, but you really just don’t seem to know what you’re talking about, or, at very least haven’t taken into consideration that the people in the MARVEL thread haven’t already noticed these things…

First off, Norman Osborne WAS the Green Goblin, sure. But, before that he was basically Tony Stark. He was rich, famous, brilliant and more than capable of the tasks put before him. There is a certain irony to the fact that most super villians try very hard to take over the world and it just kind of fell into his lap. As far as the people living in the Marvel Universe: they’re quite sane, well… as sane as we are. People like a savior, expecially a public one. Norman was just that. I don’t know what’s so hard to believe about this.

Secondly, Dr. Doom, not evil. You call me when you’re really smart and we’ll talk. Loki, not even CLOSE to evil. Emma Frost, not evil, just opportunistic. Namor, a jerk, but not evil. The hood, a thug being USED by an evil dude, but not evil. Which brings me to Norman Osborne who is, like the others not evil, but insane.

Dr. Doom is a characer that has remained the same since he was thought up. He’s egocentric, narcisistic, sociapathic and too smart (note I didnt say evil). He doesn’t need a Namor or an anyone else to make him readable.

If Thor were JUST about Asgard and his Godlike homies and nothing neat ever happened, no one would read it. A super powered guy fighting the same villians every week? Who would read that?

Where was the ownage? All I saw was bullshit and a soliloquoy that proves you don’t have a basic grasp of the English language. Most of those people are evil by denotation. It’s cute that you’ve made up your oen personal definition for the word, but if you want to have a conversation with anyone else, you might want to use thier real meanings. The dictionary: it’s not just a booster seat for your little ass anymore.

I cant wait for you to edit that post for your OWN misuse of the language. Do you ever tire of looking stupid? Also, stop trolling.

[Edit] Also, if you’re just going to stalk me and constantly reply to my posts EVERYWHERE I post, you’re going to be very sad. You seem intelligent enough but your actions don’t reflect this at all. Act your age. Nobody here takes you seriously in the least because you’re a joke. Kind of like Chris Farley.

To be fair a lot of villains in Marvel do not view themselves as being evil, they are just doing what they feel needs to be done. Doom wants to take over the world because he feels he will do a better job at it and to him the ends justify the means. It’s like how Osama Bin Laden believes he’s going to heaven when he dies, he doesn’t view himself as being ‘evil’ either.

Kid, you’re about as hard as Star Jone’s arm skin. I’ve been posting here longer than you and you followed me into these threads. Corky how my ass taste?

Nobody ever views themselves as being evil. They just are. This is also very similar to stupid people. Case in point: The Doctor.

In reality, yes. In fiction, not always. “MWAHAHA I’M ROBBING THE BANK I’M AN EEEEVIL SUPER VILLAIN MWAHAHAHAHA!” Stop me if you’ve heard that one before.

After reading Thor 600 and the recent Captain Britain issue, I’m beginning to realize that Norman isn’t the main man in Dark Reign…

But even the Brotherhood of Evil mutants didn’t consider themselves evil, so just saying it doesn’t mean they recognize it lol. My point is that almost all of them are “the ends justify the means” kind of guys which makes them evil by denotation. Evil is only subjective from a moral standpoint, but that isn’t the only definition or application of the term. Technially lots of heros are evil too.

I agree with that much. I guess The Brotherhood of We Disagree With The X-Men On a Few Key Issues Mutants doesn’t sound as good.

I still remember the AMZ#350 were Spidey tried to solo Doom and gave himself a concussion after taking a single hit from the mighty Doom … :looney: Spidey gets KO’d trying to tech roll against Doom.

good times, even if it was likely a doom bot

That would be the best group ever. They could have so many more members as long as they dropped out the evil. Even Namor could join lol.

Nice join date. I can only assume you mean this PARTICULAR part of the forum, and even then you’d be wrong. There was a Marvel thread years ago but the servers got reset. I only recently started posting more. So it doesn’t matter how much you post (troll) you’re still wrong. Please, do stop trying to sound better than you are, it makes me want to vomit. You’re like a monkey splashing around in the water because it thinks it can get to the moon through the reflection of the moonlight. Pathetic.

Now, back to Marvel.

That was a classic story. In the TPB the writer David Michellinie said something like, “I have Doom here who has beaten up the entire FF single handedly, how am I going to have Spider-Man fight him?” So Spidey gave up early on lol that was rich. Go Doom!

Yes. 2001 was a nice join date, if only for the fact that your weak-ass wasn’t here yet. Any other false assumptions you’d like to make? you know, beyond the one that anyone gives a fuck what you have to say.

Of course you can. Stupidity won’t allow you to fathom the thought of this being my second account because I changed my name before Wiz was offering name changes. Stop cornering the market on being wrong. let someone else have a chance.

The difference between us is you think I’d be wrong. You’re definitely wrong. See how that works?

Of course I remember. I was one of the people who started it. What I don’t remember is you being there or anywhere around when I started posting. Could it be because it never happened?

Your first mistake was posting at all.

Again, either you’re lying or you’re too dumb to understand the definition of wrong. Wrong is everything you posted because you made a false assumption about my join date based on this account. Wrong is the fact that we’re sending money oversees to help underprivileged people, and yet we couldn’t even lend your mother a coathanger during any of her trimesters. Wrong is anything you choose to type.

I’m better than you. That’s all that matters. The thing making you want to vomit isn’t my posts; it’s my dick on your tonsils. Or maybe it’s your bulimia coming out since everything you post is regurgitated bullshit.

And you’re like a Rhesus monkey peddling AIDS across the board. you want marvel? marvel at this ass-whipping you’re receiving for being dumb. Advice: if you’re tired of the taste of my dick keep your mouth shut.

Here’s the part where you prove you have a learning disability and respond about me being gay with all the dick references of some other ill-thought tripe. If I’m gay you’re the bitch holding my pocket.

I’m done here because sano’s a nice guy and I don’t want to spam this thread. It’s too bad it’s spam and not sausage; then you would swallow it whole.

…so yeah, you fools better be reading Ghost Rider, cuz its coming to a kickass conclusion to the current arc.

It is my personal belief that any comic book-related thread must immediately be retired, closed, locked, and/or deleted once a forum member seriously brings up an Osama bin Laden simile in what is otherwise civil, intelligent, and rational discourse. I’m going to contact the moderator about this. Oh, waitasec… Damn.

CURSES FOILED AGAIN

What’s the issue that starts the arc? I stopped reading a while ago.
