Thor isn’t a legacy character. Maybe his hammer, but Thor comes with Hammer included, it’s inherent to the character and it’s development.
Like I said, this wouldn’t be a big deal if they just gave her the hammer, and didn’t name her “Thor”. Or better yet, make a completely new character. Didn’t marvel make a middle eastern character with the power to control sand? Why can’t they do that again. Oh wait, that requires work and risk.
Or they could push an existing female like… oh I don’t know…

People want to get piss about their being a new Thor that’s fine as he shouldn’t be a legacy character as Thor is not a title. Dudes letting their rage get to them and starting to generalizing it acting like it’s wrong for any new character to take up an established identity.

There’s nothing stupid about it. Being a legacy gives a character something up live up to, be apart of something bigger than themselves and make things more interesting by taking it places it hadn’t gone before. I’ll say making Iron Fist a legacy character the best thing that ever happened to the character.
With some love, care, and Brian Michael Bendis added in, Arana could’ve been badass. She was like Miles Morales, but way earlier.
If it ain’t Spider-Man and Daredevil I don’t want Bendis near it.
From a marketing perspective I think marvel wanted to target a established character like Thor because female titled books tend to sell very poorly. A year or 2 ago a book focusing on Sif was canceled (journey into mystery) due to poor sales in spite of being a exceptionally good read. Captain marvel was pulling cancel worthy sales last year and fearless defenders (a all female book) was canceled due to low sales. In contrast the all female book x-men has pulled great numbers and many suspect its due to the title not changing its name to reflect the female dominated cast
Essentially they will hide behind the success of a male character in order to promote more women.
