I’m putting in the work right now. My fiance` has been talking a lot of shit to me in regards to my Makoto play and i have to say its pretty motivating. Her conditions for me going to EVO are to win an east coast major.
Can f. lp be used to get into Ex. Fukiage now?
I’m sure I’ve read something about that before, but I’m a little surprised I haven’t seen it in action, or anyone talking about it much. Is there a reason to not be as excited for that as I thought I’d be?
On paper, c.LK > twd.LP xx EX Fukiage is a nice confirm off a low attack. Unfortunately, that’s a one frame unplinkable link without a select stick mod.
You know, that’s really funny because I just made a youtube video detailing those 2 changes via the USF4 mod. I’m definitely modding my stick to b-link punishes in ultra.
The punishes are what I was excited about. So many people will be caught off guard by that, at least initially.
In my opinion, if I can’t execute something then I can’t use it. I don’t think modding your stick to be able to perform something is respectable
Like Makoto needed more 1 frames links really, sigh
Not sure I want to mod my stick for it, even tho I can.
I actually like using the 3P and 3K buttons.
v2012 for life. -_-’
Can I just have 3s mak pls :[
It is not that bad. She will still be a top tier character especially with the mechanic changes.
However, what is making me salty is that a lot was taken from Makoto to make up for the EX Fukiage buff. A buff that was completely unnecessary and simply added to the sake of making changes and was not a real balancing effort. Now Makoto will be different as opposed to a more balanced version of what we have now.
That 3 frame punish and low confirm into EX Fukiage damage/reset is really awesome. Plus the jump cancel after is just a cool addition to her game. A decent crossup is great too.
And looking at the bright side of the Tsurugi change, it’s actually ok if it’s punishable because you can use that as another layer of mind games. If someone doesn’t know to punish it or can’t react they won’t punish anyway, but if you know that they know just use that against them by making them block a HK version and then punishing the SRK mash after blocking the Tsurugi. In AE after a blocked one nothing happened, now depending on what version you decide to use and if they decide to go for punish another action situation is opened up. Fun stuff.
The only change that seems really bad and weird is the U2 nerf. Not being able to use it as an escape pretty much makes sure that no one will ever pick it. If you want the option to try and catch a fireball maybe double U might be OK. I guess delayed wakeup helps with escape options, but using Ultra to get out was nice and didn’t seem OP or anything since you were spending that resource to escape.
As someone who is fairly new to Makoto the changes do make me sad. I feel like they are taking some of her fundamental momentum damage away. I don’t care that much about the new EX fukiage utility honestly. I having a true 3 frame punish is a big bonus but the big nerfs will hurt (me) much worse as an intermediate player. I would have liked to see them demonstrate her improved cross up mk as well, but I guess that may be negligible. I also feel like she is going to get burned hard by delayed wake up and red focus, but I guess we will have to wait and see. Crossing fingers I get good enough in the coming months to deal with this stuff.
She’s done. End of the story. Since the first build she get only nerfs after nerfs. The Ex Fuki combo damage is guaranteed only if we have 2 bars, if not we are almost forced to do a reset… Giving the opponent a chance to escape. The U2 nerf is simply stupid: nerfed because is a free out of jail move?! What about Bison options then? He don’t even need to use his Ultra,1 bar is enough. With that I can’t sustain the Tsurugi nerf. Call a noticeable buff the cr.HK improvement is simply trolling. RFA don’t help Makoto because she needs meter even to piss. We can’t store meter like Yun, our best combos include meter. She’s fucked. We have the confirm, Capcom HQ is full of monkeys. AE Makoto seems premium stuff compared to this. The pressure is more unsafe, defense is even worse, damage is lower. No wonder Haitani consider a character change. Makoto is mid-tier now,at best. Not shitty like her Super version, but not even too far. I’m tired about chasing opponents all around the stages especially if the reward don’t deserve the risk. Maybe it’s time to move on.
Yeeeaaah… I’m pretty mad myself.
I mean… I play Mak, Viper and Yun. They’re all pretty close in the v2012 Tier List, mostly. And now look what happened to each of them for Ultra.
If Haitani switches, I guess it’s a big message sent to Capcom. He has a good Viper and Rufus, why would he not switch too.
Guys chill out. Makoto will still be beast. I suggest abusing EX Fukiage combos for max damage. It’ll likely make people salty and I hope they reverse it in the 2015 patch.
Does anyone know if Makoto got 1000 life in final version or not? What about U2 fireball invulnerability after flash? v-ryu, do you know?
She’s still at 950 health, and she has full fireball invincibility until landing. ( So you can punish all air fireball from akuma on reaction with it, which is pretty nice )
She will still be okay, but she was looking top5 at first, now she’s not, which is not cool.
Remember rushdown characters probably need all they can get in a game with DWU. We’re going to have to run after people a lot more and they nerfed all our tools to open people up. EX Fuki is only has good as the number of time you get a combo going.
I’m liking the potential of the extra stun from c. hk on grapplers. I can’t count the number of times I poke that out only to see my heel meet face.
Sure, I’ve posted about the nerfs I dislike before, and even the buffs I didn’t care for…but tbf, it’s not like my tsurugis were always perfect (and I use hk a lot anyway), plus I’ve already got into the habit of rarely using ultra. It would have been nice if they didn’t subtract nearly 100 dmg off Ultra 1, or even if they added something to Ultra 2 for combo potential to avoid being flat out situational.
Dudes chill, remember the meta game of ultra is changing if she doesn’t get vortexed as bad why would she need to use ultra 2 to escape anyway. If your defense is solid you should be able to block then look for a chance to turn the tide. With dp -5 good players will be hesitant to dp meaning she still gets good pressure and now if they guess wrong she has stronger punish options anywhere on the screen. Also ex fukiage makes her stronger in the neutral game meaning people can’t whiff buttons or else they can eat a fat combo or mix up. You’ll just have to adapt and play her differently
The U1 damage nerf is only 480->440. The difference after Karakusa is only 31. We’ll get that damage back from our higher damage EX Fuki combos.
Whoever edited the video fucked up. They compared Karakusa-U1 in Ultra to Tsurugi-U1 in 2012.
I was thinking Makoto was on her way to being potential S tier from everything Combofiend told me. But seeing as she ended up getting more nerfs and less buffs in exchange for EX Fuki, I think she will fall into typical high-top tier ranking. I predict she’ll be top 10.
I don’t know too much about makoto But isn’t Axe kick her only special move offense pressure?
I personally i think the Axe kick nerf was unnecessary or at least should make -2 just getting Dp’d or command grab for getting offense started is bit harsh , its like saying cammy divekick should be negative on block. Also on top of that her axe kick is pretty beatable and focus bait i think u guys should really hit combofiend on twitter or something and reconsider this change at least.
