That Makoto went in on em. You can tell he commands respect from his opponents cause they don’t try none of that reversal stuff on wake up after they get knocked down too much at all cause he’ll punish em hard. They be reversaling against me and doing wake up neutral jumps all day, hahah.
That j.mk neck kick/cross up looks beautiful when it hits. Won’t be much more whiffing with that anymore.
that makoto was fantastic, his ability to FFS and fuki anti air on reaction was down right scary, but i still say he could have mixed it up! he only started using the mk + ex hayate towards the end, there were situations before that where he had the meter but went with hk tsurigi anyway. air resets are by far “useless setups” imo! the opponents could just have reversaled after the tsurigi KD, it’s a guessing game either way. i’m not saying he had to but there were situations where he could have gotten more damage and stun.
So Ima go ahead and say I may have been buggin a lil bit on the whole -3 on the Tsurugi thing. But Ima def keep an eye out for it and see how it affects her game play as more people get used to the changes. But it’s lookin pretty good… So far, hahah.
That’s why I don’t think air reset all the time to maximize the damage/stun is a good idea. Everybody knows how it works, better do that after studying our opponent bad habits. Example: better not try a tsurugi after an air reset against Ryu, because he can do LP Sho into ultra. Against him we can do the double dash trick to make the DP’s whiff. Against Akuma stay chill is the better choice of he has ultra, in that way we can react to whatever he’s trying to do. If the opponent is a neutral jump happy we can wait for it and punish. We have a plethora of ways to take advantage from an air reset, we just need to download the opponent habits. We can training ourselves already.
I think it’s definitely something to keep an eye on. That video is day 2 of ultra in japan, people are still adapting to their own character changes as well as DWU and red focus. I doubt many of them are aware of the tsurugi nerf and if they are they haven’t yet implemented a good answer into their games.
Regardless, initial reactions to ultra mak seem to be that she is really strong. There was that post on eventhubs where gamerbee listed her in top 5.

I always though forward throw not having a knockdown deserved more than 50 more stun than other throws as compensation.
Adon’s backthrow has almost as much range as her kara forward throw, and that throw has insane Oki tied to it.
yeah, i too thought the stun on forward throw is not enough to make me really want to use it. back in 3rd strike, i would abuse it just to get that stun. man, the extremes that is 3rd strike makoto… i miss that!
It’s all relative. I think in third strike there were only three different types of stun meters. I’m not sure if anyone ever figured out the exact values. Akuma has 850 in AE, so that translates to about 1/4th of his stun. So, st. HP (200) + HP Hayate (120) > MK Tsurugi (120) > st. HP (200) > HP Hayate (120) Blocked DP kara Forward throw (200) is a very solid stun. There are definitely practical reasons to use it (it’s +1 and the spacing can be used in particular match ups to a great degree). I probably wouldn’t try it against Thawk, Gief, Hakan etc. The chances of you stunning them are very low and even if you do you probably took way too many unnecessary risks. All opinion though.
I was thinking about this exact concept just last night, and coincidentally someone had already made a video about it. I just started using Makoto and as such I do not have the proper execution to test stuff out, but I would be very interested in the optimal stun combo using this, both off of a hit confirm and a jump-in.

With RFA we gonna have back practically karakusa->st.hp xxRFA into U2,3s-like. Plus U2 gain full fireball invincibility,maybe that’s why. Annoying for sure, but I can live without.
I’m at a loss with all these changes. she already has nothing on wakeup, our offense is all we have and they continue to nerf it all? mk and lk tsurigi, U2, karakusa, backthrow, U1…lol I have to say though, I saw it coming!
Cornering Makoto gonna be more difficult with DWU. Plus ex fuki is good for corner carry. Isn’t a good thing, but now we have one more reason to go forward. I’m curious if other characters received the same treatment. Maybe we get some buffs in exchange, hope that.
