Makoto Ultra SFIV

Doesn’t really feel like him.

Hmm… Anti Ryu’s cr.mk trick, endless pressure, original Makoto outfit, same way to stay in after a KD,kara-tsurugis from crazy distances… If he’s not Haitani, then he’s the brother

What is this anti ryu c.mk trick you speak of? I have problems with footsies in that mu.

Oh and how people can see, the Tsurugi nerf don’t seems affect Makoto pressure AT ALL.

Haitani really isn’t one to go for hayate cancel combos so often, but I guess he’s more willing to take risks in these arcade matches.
But heh, might be him based on outfit alone. All other Makoto in Japan have that special outfit color and stuff.

Tsurugi out of range to bait, counter the cr.mk with our cr.lk. I put a video of this later.

He does, especially against the opponents too scared about mash a DP.
Japanese are strangely loyal to their characters outfit, you can note this even in other games or previous SF. Maybe they can’t change the outfits with their game cards once they are registered or simply superstition. I think is the first I say.

Most people are. PR_Rog always use the same american flag alt, Ricky is always the brown Rufus and Justin the yellow one. Xian is the dark Gen. Latif is the razer Viper, wolfkrone is the standard alt, etc
I only use Gold Makoto myself.

Of course in Japan, it’s a big thing. I think the Red Yun was a big part of it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you, sir. Consider it stolen.

def not haitani

Seeing HK tsurugi hard knockdown out of the air made me think. I’m going to be experimenting with that a lot.

Thinking about it, Mak now has a big damage threat off her c.lk. Also consider that now you can get full damage combo back into the hard knockdown off meaty Oroshi:

Meaty Oroshi > c.lk > EX Fuki

Then you can either get hard knockdown or air reset depending on what sort of mindfuckery you feel inclined to go for.

Fuuuuuuuck I wanna plaaaaaay

Am I missing something with HK tsurugi on airborne? People are still doing quick recovery so it seems to still be a soft knockdown to me…

After watching Daigo playing Ryu with “NO NAME” also,I’m pretty sure he’s our master.

Fun fact: st.lp AA is a 3s Makoto players habit, this Koto use it a lot. Outside Haitani no top 3s Makoto players enjoy SF4,so…

It’s a hard KD, it just seems quick to recover because we have to land. I just tested it in training mode to be sure.
They might be awkward to DWU tho, not sure when you have to start holding the 2 buttons for this one.

I want to be exited about meaty oroshi setups, but those are, imo, the riskier ones to do with DWU in the game.
Look at this video, Haitanieat a pretty beefy punish for trying it ( 1:28 )

Agreed, maybe is better do that against soft KD’s. Sadly Oroshi is too slow at the startup, it’s different from a meaty dive pressure or a fucking Ibuki kunai. With ex-fuki we can do damage/stun without rely that much on meaties. Too many defensive strategies now with DWU, no reason to play too risky.

to be honest, this does not look like typical haitani playstyle but i could be wrong! also, i didn’t like the constant use of HK tsurigi to end all those ex fuki combos, he could have gotten more stun and damage from most those situations with a complete combo or reset. luckily most did not DWU…
also, this player is obviously aware of the mk nerf. if you look closely, he mixes up hk tsurigi in there quite a bit and when he does use mk tsurigi he stops his pressure. the bison opponent for example would constantly try to punish after a blocked tsurigi.
in fact, this makoto abused hk tsurigi!!!
anyone know what ex fuki is on block?

I saw somewhere that a blocked ex fuki was punished by ryu c.mk. Though on the bright side it pushes back well outside of close range so it cant be punished by things like cl.hp.

>being afraid to take risks with Makoto

You guys sure you’re in the right subforum?

Seriously though, I’m just stoked for the possibilities.

Using HK Tsurugi as combo ender is for sure damage without spend meter ( when he can he use the MK version+ex hayate). The reset after ex fuki is fantastic, but an opponent can refuse to guess and do a reversal, everybody knows that reset now. Put your opponent in guess situation seems good, but put you in guess also because we aren’t safe, against Makoto too many people choose the reversal in that situation or an escape. Even if DWU was there the Makoto player was ready for it, after the hard KD he’s ready for react without trying useless setups, when Makoto is that close is enough scary to think twice about a yolo reversal especially with DP’s FADC nerf.

How @wirestyle‌ said before, react to a blocked lk/mk tsurugi isn’t that easy, you need to react immediately and isn’t that easy during our pressure. If the opponent react 1f later we block what he’s gonna do, now after a blocked lk/mk Tsurugi we need to wait a bit before restart the mixup, looking on what the opponent do.

EDIT: Nobody knows how much EX Fuki is on block, but I think is very punishable, already has 32f of recovery.

Having lk/mk Tsurugi at -3 on block means having the exactly same disadvantage of lk/mk Adon’s Jaguar Kicks. How many times you see that move punished on block?
