Making Your Stick Pretty: A Custom Stick Art Guide/Tutorial

Speaking of 11x14 sized sheets for 5 bucks i just went to home depot and got 2 of those before reading that comment.

i was at home depot today…lexan is friggan expensive…

I didn’t see much lexan at home depot except for a huge thick sheets. the 11x14s are acrylic, and relative to shipping from the U.S. It’s dirt cheap.

Whats the best thing to ask for when getting art work printed? (going under a plexi) just wanna make sure i get it right the first time  like what material?, size etc. thanks guys sorry if this has been asked allready.

Im trying to make a Bison design for my SE Fightstick

http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/2167/bisonfightstick2.jpg

Its definitily not done yet. Im planning on changing the colour of the three images in the middle so that theyre all red, while keeping the two outer images the same. Does anybody have any tips on making this look better? Or any tips for the background, which I’m not satisfied with. I want to find a red or red & black background.
Also, I want to add text that says “arcade fighstick” on the top left in the Fireye GF font but I’m not sure how to do this. I am using GIMP and the font doesn’t come with the program.

The Font does not come with any program.
You have to download it.

I downloaded the font, but I dont exactly know how to use it in GIMP. Anything you can help me with there? :stuck_out_tongue:

Should be able to just drop it in your windows font folder and it will show up inside of Gimp when you use the text tool. Least it works that way in photoshop and i believe Gimp is the same.

Just make sure you have gimp closed when installing it to the windows font folder, or you just need to restart gimp so it will load it.

Thanks a lot. I got the font to work and I made a couple changes to the design. Anybody have any suggestions?

Is the dust cover going to cover too much of Bison’s face by the stick?

First of all, do a better job cutting out the bison in every picture, Just place 1 solid white shadoloo logo on the top next to the turbo panel, Change the backround colour to some sort of green, it is red’s compliment. Change it from Arcade fightstick to fightstick SE, or something along those lines, you’re tag works just as well, and put some different effects on the bisons that are coloured red, for instance restore colour to the one in the middle, and restore colour to his fireball. And the bison on the far right looks very choppy and blurred together with the sf4 logo, you should probably do a better job of that or just simply delete him.

Here’s what I put together after using gimp for the first time. Any suggestions?

google is your friend

You’re right. I did a sloppy job of cutting out the pictures. I recut the pictures, added some different effects to the pictures, and made a new background. I kept the “arcade fightstick” because I just wanted it to say what it says on actual SE fightsticks. I added a new background and i put the shadaloo logo on the bottom left because it blended in with the background if i put it next to the turbo. I didnt know what you meant about the bison on the right looking blurred so i kept him in there for now. If you think he should be taken out, or if you have any other suggestions feel free to let me know.

Not bad. not bad at all. Still you should probably incorporate some sort of green into the equation. Having a complimentary color changes it from a somewhat blurred together red hell to having your work stand out truly. Seriously, I’m not trying to call it bad but nobody wants to look at their creation and only notice a few major details because everything is red. Still, keep up the good work. If you did green buttons It would make the buttons stand out like crazy, so Don’t do that. Even if you use some very subtle dark greens it can really make a difference. Oh and FYI I didn’t notice the shadaloo logo until 3/4 of me writing this, awful placement. What I meant by the bison on the right being blurred with the ssf4 ae logo is that, Neither things stand out, not to bad now that you did a better trimming job. If you want the shadaloo logo to stand out paint a part black, or lower saturation on something alot and then paste it over. Sorry for going all over the place I noticed alot of things after I started writing.

Also on that note: I feel like a dick mentioning things like this because it makes people feel like their work is shit, which it isn’t, but Here are some adjustments I would make if I was in you’re position. 1: Remove the bison behind the ssf4 logo do to the current effects (or lack thereof) he doesn’t really look behind it, more with it, which is bad. You should always have emphasis on the logo.2: As I’ve said, throw in green or black wherever you can. 3: Get rid of some clutter, and fade to one flat colour around the logos (both of them.) It makes them stand out more. 4: Shrink things, move things, remove things, do whatever it takes so most of the emphasis is on the logos, and your favourite pictures, For instance; Move the top bison (best pic imo) to the middle, get rid of the bison on the far left (or move it to the far right; get rid of the bison behind ssf4 logo, Enlargen the bison with the ball in his hand and put it left, and the spread the others around.

Do whatever you like this is your project and nobody elses, I’m just throwing out ideas, and hopefully you can take them and twist them into a fashion you prefer.

The 2nd one is great, I love everything done by Akira Toriyama.
